I just practiced driving my mom's car for a few months then studied for my permit a small amount, then immediately got the license afterwards after taking a test that lasted 30 minutes. Any idiot can get a car here and the government refuses to take responsibility for the rising death tolls even though they make driving uniform by law.

Sorry to hear that. Driving is a scam. The automobile and oil industries destroyed the once-robust public transportation systems we had and built sprawling cities so we'd all have to spend thousands of dollars on cars and gas. Unless you live in a select few cities you pretty much have to drive.

Getting a driver's license here takes some effort and costs 1800-5000$. We have a dropout rate of 39% in the theoretical test and 32% in the practical one. That's why we can have highways without a speed limit while you better shouldn't.

I used to feel the same way you did OP, I didn’t want to drive and I didn’t want a driver’s license. However once you get into the groove of it driving can be a rather relaxing experience. Sometimes when I’m bored I’ll get in my car and get on the highway just to look at the local sites. Having a car is also really convenient when you want to get something that’s far away. I used to have to rid a homeless-infested bus for two hours just to get across the city, but now I can do the same in the privacy of my car in half the time

>50 € for medical checkup
>40 € for theoretical exam, for every time you fail

>25 € for practical exam, if you fail 5 times you have to pass the theoretical again
so in all about 1000€ if you're lucky

Ok this is based. In europe you can't drive alone if you're 18. You can also get a special license to drive but one of your parents have to be in the car as "instructor". You can get this license at the age of 16.

we have that parental permit here too at 15, which seems kind of pointless since it's only a year away. but you can drive with any adult, it doesnt have to just be your parent. i think the age varies by state though

It's around ~1000e here. You have to do 8h of theory (+ a theory test) and 14h of driving with a licensed instructor (+a driving test). About ~150e goes to administrative fees.

I got my license when I was 22 in winter. Passed my test first try. Its pretty easy. Just practice a bit and you'll learn in no time.

It's a waste of time and money. Most of my friends got one as soon as they reached the age of 18 and don't even have cars. My parents offered to pay for mine if I wanted but I refused. My city has trams and buses going everywhere and I'd rather buy a new PC than a used car. Just explain to them that you'll get one when you need one.
