i fucking hate chess

Popular as board game only.

why?

He is a macaco. Brain things scare the macaco

80% of chess masters are just autistic child prodigies. It's a decent enough way to pass the time but as a professional sport it's shit

that explains why there's less than 10 australian grandmasters

Fuck, I want to get into Chess again at some point, but I fear I'm too old (27).

Used to have a ~1600 ELO, but eventually had to stop playing because too much stuff was occupying my free time.

Relatively popular, but less than in soviet times.

Anglo countries don't have a well-grounded tradition of competitive chess like continental Europe.

No shit, you don't have state-sponsored chess anymore. All the Eastern bloc cunts used to do it and at the peak there were so many matches and tournaments being played that Anatoli Karpov said trying to keep up with and analyze all those games was way more than anyone could handle.

Does not Armenia or Georgia or some Caucasus region have chess classes at elementary school?

Very very very fucking popular
We are world's third best chess playing country goddamnit

Shah had a terrible streak lately, will he ever recover? He plays like he is mentally unstable

It seems among the current crop of young grandmaster that everyone plays e4 openings, but e4 and d4 openings seem to come and go in and out of style. For example in the 1950s-60s, e4 was dominant and in the 70s-80s d4 and especially those super-complex Indian Defenses.

Well, he is still the fifth in the list but Teymur Rajabov still can play I guess

e4 is always recommended for amateurs and also don't play Indian defenses or any other super-complex, positional stuff.

I guess the Polgar sisters proved that women really aren't that good at chess.

Cute.

Britain had a lot of leading chess players in the 19th century but seems to have lost it afterwards. The only GM in modern history they produced was Nigel Short and he was a second-stringer.

popular amongst lower classes
we like to wewuz with Wesley So despite the fact our sports system is the reason he doesn't represent philippines in the first place

Gay nerd shit. Chess club fags were always the virgin computer geeks. Watch football like a real man

Fairly popular I say. We got a grandmaster, there must be at least a dozen other who play too.

In pro chess unfortunately you're much less free than amateur chess because you can't take risks that could cost you the match and you want to be able to draw if need be. That means no wacky, dangerous stuff like King's Gambit.

I am very bad at chess. :(

Its rather popular here. There used to be an amazing program on public television that was great for learning chess, it's a shame it isn't aired anymore. I also think there is a good amount of greek pro players. I used to play a lot, but I mostly play online nowadays.

When I was a kid I learned to play from my dad's old Fred Reinfeld books he had since he was a kid.

King's Gambit games are pure chaos. Literally anything can happen, so too dangerous for GM play.

Can one actually improve in Chess? or should I just give up since I wasn't born Russian or Chinese

let's rock !

Because you need a brain to play chess, a thing that Brazilians don't have.

You have like 2 top 50 players. USA, Russia, and China are way ahead of you. And arguably Armenia, India, Poland, and Norway (by the merit of having Carlsen alone) are as well.

We're not as good as we used to be, but we're still pretty good compared to others countries

become armenian

because all of the jews left

where they left to?

us obviously
