Hello /djt/,

As a Japanese learner, I have always been curious why Japanese have two sets of syllabaries, Hiragana and Katakana, and why they use Katakana for foreign names.

My theory is this: As everyone knows, Katakana is derived from fragments of Kanji. Kanji characters have actual meanings, whereas Hiragana just represents sounds.

Do Japanese use Katakana for foreign names because they worship white people?

Yes

No

Maybe

Yes, Katakana is sometimes used because it looks cool, or for emphasis, which is why Japanese show deference to foreigners. Some Japanese names for things like salmon are written in Katakana too, presumably because it is expensive

The only problem with learning from porn is that you see words like 上下 and immediately have indecent associations.

私わペニス

Allsonntäglich saß der Bahnwärter Thiel in der Kirche zu Neu-Zittau,
ausgenommen die Tage, an denen er Dienst hatte oder krank war und zu
Bette lag. Im Verlaufe von zehn Jahren war er zweimal krank gewesen;
das eine Mal infolge eines vom Tender einer Maschine während des
Vorbeifahrens herabgefallenen Stückes Kohle, welches ihn getroffen
und mit zerschmettertem Bein in den Bahngraben geschleudert hatte;

I agree actually.

This whore alone has more porn of her already than all the characters since Rorona put together.

That just means she's popular

Yeah, I'm sure she's popular because she's an interesting and cute character, before her game even came out.

What is some good website/Anki deck with MNEMONICS? I'm doing core 6k rn but sometimes have trouble remembering it. Or maybe should I make my own?

If so, should I make it based on how the kanji looks like, or how it sounds?

>If so, should I make it based on how the kanji looks like, or how it sounds?
Based on the kanji meanings. But you'd have to do RTK first, to know the kanji meanings. Then you could make easy mnemonics everywhere.
That in itself would take some time though.
Don't do it based on how they look like, because many kanji look very similar, so unless you're good at seeing exactly what kanji it is and being able to tell them apart, basing mnemonics on shape will be very difficult.
So, maybe try based on sound, but I never tried that myself.

i'm a begginer, what should i do?

There is a hidden message in the OP image

i thought ないと is "have to"
そんなのやってみないと分からないし
it says in english, we won't know unless we try
but, i read it as i dont know to try that kind of thing.
im guessing this is just something you will get over time and as well context? because i'm getting the ないと is meant to say negative and quotation.

Attached: Untitled.png (1920x1080, 813K)

that's the conditional と
if やってみない then 分からない
if do not try, then won't know

what does し at the end mean?

it would depend on context
し is a conjunctive particle that presents the sentence in parallel with some other thing, sometimes as a reason for something
in that way it is similar to "and" in English when you use "and" to join whole sentences
but like with any other conjunction in Japanese you can end a sentence with it to give the sentence a certain overtone
if I was translating the line そんなのやってみないと分からないし I would probably do something like "And with something like that we'll never know unless we try, anyway."
the し would be represented by the "and" and "anyway" that are framing the sentence

but the line in the page he posted ends with a よ and not し anyway so he just made that part up himself

ah, right ok thanks.

if you are interested in animation films produced by Studio Ghibli, I would recommend you 天空の城ラピュタ(Laputa: Castle in the Sky), もののけ姫(Princess Mononoke), 千と千尋の神隠し(Spirited Away), 魔女の宅急便(Kiki's Delivery Service), 耳をすませば(Whisper of the heart), 紅の豚(Porco Rosso), 猫の恩返し(The Cat Returns), となりのトトロ(my neighbour Totoro).

風の谷のナウシカ(Nausicaa of the valley of the wind) is recommendable too.

Do you guys use the casual or polite form when speaking online? Which verbs would you recommend I learn the kanji of first?

死ね

どこが?

Honestly, I alternate between the two depending on whom I'm talking with, the conversation, and how I feel at the time.
