I'm jealous sometimes how other countries seem to have a best friend country. I'm thinking like Turkey and Azerbaijan, Latvia and Lithuania, Greece and Cyprus, etc.
There is just no brotherly bond with the US. In fact most leafs kinda distance themselves from and resent Americans.
Leafs admire France and England, and it's even said that the red in the flag comes from England and the white from France, but we're irrelevant to both of them.
As far as I know, we are one of the most hated countries.
The desire for friends is what makes you weak. Countries don't have friends, they don't even have allies, they have interests and mutual need for resources.
Seems like it's self-inflicted loneliness. Learn to accept us for what we are. We like Canadians even though they have a false sense of superiority. We don't complain that you take our culture and give no credit or that you opportunistically take all the great trade and business opportunities here.

When I was in school I was the "reserve friend" that would only be called and invited to things if there was no one else available. I imagine Canada is like that for the USA.

What the hell are you talking about, OP? A lot of countries like Canada or at least don't think bad about it. But what about Mexico? We have literally 0 (zero, cero, null, nada) friends. Name me one country on this planet that would unironically and out of good faith think something like "oh yeah I would like to be neighbor and fren of Mexico", name it and I'll leave this board forever.
