You can get pic related, even with a toilet and shower inside for under $50,000. If you build it yourself you could squueze it under $30,000 probably. Is this the cheapest and most redpilled way to live? Just travel the world and stick it to the housing jews?
Is living in a van redpilled?

Yeah if you like being a homeless sack of shit.
dumb npc
Where do you shower
Where do you poo
Is living in a cardboard box redpilled? Shit where you want, shower in urine, get free needles to shoot heroin. Why give up halfway and live in a van, do something properly for once you piece of shit
looks comfy desu
pic related is what you can get inside any decent van
most converted vans also have a solar panel on top and fridge with a gas cooker
I checked into this and to get one that you can actually stand up in it's just way too fucking expensive. You can just rent a room in the midwest for like $300 and you save just as much money. Tl;dr it seems pointless to me.
I guarantee you most living vans look better than wherever you live
Enjoy finally owning a house when you're 50 years old, I'll be enjoying travel in my comfy $40,000 van
Why not go homeless, its free
does it have a septic tank?
The only problem is no internet.
unlimited at&t ipad internet for $30/,month with an lte hotspot/modem. google/reddit it.
Based, I'm actually thinking about it now.
I can't even find a $300 room and I live in a europoor country. And these vans aren't that expensive user. Even pre-built ones that have everything from toilet, shower, cooker, fridge and AC go for around $50,000 and those are new. If you buy a regular sprinter van for $10,000 and convert it yourself you will learn a bunch of things and it will cost you under $30,000 probably. And you can travel around the world and take your home with you.
wow this looks comfy as fuck. 40k is steep though considering you can get a house in the midwest for 120k.
>I can't even find a $300 room and I live in a europoor country
they have composting toilet, human shit is 90% water so it evaporates out of the van and you only have to dump the shit tank into the woods like once per year
it doesn't stink?
>you can shit and shower at the same time
fuck it, maybe ill cash out what's left of my pathetic crypto and just buy one of these and go travel. this looks so great
is this a shop though? or a render
it looks too nice lol
surely if this is real it's a $100k van
it only evaporates water and it happens slowly so no
not a shop, that's a real van, I believe it's a pre-built one, I don't know where are americans can shop for one but I know there's a bunch of dealers here in EU that sell ones like that for $50,000 exactly
I can't imagine this is comfortable. there's almost no space.
I guess the only problem is socializing--can't bring anyone back to your vancrib
I don't know about the US but in Europe you can buy them here for example, bunch of them that even go under $50k
If you're really interested check out cyclecruza's bug out van build or his channel bugoutmoto. He details everything and lists the costs and has many instructional video's on how he built the van.
I wonder if I could rent one to find out if I'd want to kms after a week
No. Most living vans do not look more comfortable than where I am living now. You want to know why? Because it's a fucking van. That's why.
Why in the motherfuck would anybody choose between owning a tangeable piece of real estate investment, and owning a smelly pretentious, depreciating heap of mobile garbage?
Do you think you're fucking funny or something?
For an extra 30k you could just get yourself a fullfledged camper and actually get the space and room you need as a person to live. I've looked trough some of the photo's and although it eyes luxurious I don't think I could live in one of these.
I mean most of the prebuilt vans are meant for 3 people, usually have 4 seats and huge bed, I even saw vans that have a bunk bed so 4 people could sleep and live there, only issue would be having to worry about water more often
the bigger ones actually have plenty of space, bed and seats, plus if you want more space you can go outside
>plus if you want more space you can go outside
heresy
the issue with RVs is that they are too big so you can't park in places where cars normally can and the fuel consumption is way higher, and a van is a lot more stealthy as in nobody will likely suspect anybody lives there
Yeah it's great to throw 50k into a depreciating asset.
It sounds really cool but I think practically it would suck, a lot. Plus a toilet in the shower? That's disgusting dude. I go into the shower to get clean not to get little bits of poop floating on my skin.
Its great, if you're actually touring/travelling. But this is no way to live for anyone who's working a job and not nomading around.
the Early Retirement Extreme guy did it
I don't see the problem. The toilet is sealed and the seat cover is clean because of the constant showering
I mean it's literally no different than having a small apartment, I don't see how it would prevent from having a job and you could actually live 2 minutes away from it and not have to worry about daily traffic and stuff
But if I buy this van, its value is depreciated by 30-50% after just a year. If I buy an appartment or house atleast I retain the value I put in. I don't really see the benefits of it other than dudelmfaosmokingweedinmynomadvan
>I mean it's literally no different than having a small apartment, I don't see how it would prevent from having a job and you could actually live 2 minutes away from it and not have to worry about daily traffic and stuff
one worry of mine would be coworkers finding out and the info spreading, a van is so vulnerable
also negroes
You need something with automatic climate control like the Prius otherwise the van will be miserable in hot or cold weather. That requires either a hybrid or full EV van.
>buy an appartment
what strange europoor nonsense is this
this is another thing, imagine parking somewhere and going to your job to go back and find out the entire interior of the van has been robbed? Yes it could happen to your house aswell but a van/car is just that much more likely to happen to.
I guess you could mitigate this by living/parking in a white area or something, being a van nomad would make white flight so much more efficient
I have a fucking cool van that I travel in. Have a family so also have a house but if it went tits up I'd be in the van full time and saving my money. Its doable and I wish I'd had van when I was a bit younger and in a position to save more.
those vans have 10 cm of sheet metal walls and reinforced windows, it's more safe than your average house
that's a valid point but average house price in US is $200,000 and we are at peak of the housing bubble, some areas you won't find a house under $400,000
a van that you build yourself can be $30,000 and they actually hold value pretty good, I have seen even 6 year old ones selling for 70% of their original price
all the vans have solar panels and AC, otherwise it would be a nightmare in there
you can have alarms that notify you on your phone if it's been broken into, plus it's not easy to rob a van like that, much harder than your average house
not to mention a regular white van parked on the street is an unlikely target for robbery when thiefs don't know what's inside
seems like with the white panel van you'd just have to shower at a gym or something, right?
that's just a random parked van I found on google, but even that one could fit a shower although it would be cramped inside and not as comfy as the bigger vans
Okay enough criticising then, let me introduce the tiny house as an alternative option. Costs about €50,000-€70,000. It's got a lot more room, it's all green energy and recycled water.
that's even shittier than the van desu, who would want this? resale value next to nil outside of retarded hipsters
>that's just a random parked van I found on google, but even that one could fit a shower although it would be cramped inside and not as comfy as the bigger vans
is there a sweet spot? desu I prefer as cheap as possible but there must be some golden mean
You can also have it build with a chassis and wheels under the home so you can hook it up to your car/van and move your home anywhere you'd like.
I think its a lot better than a fucking van that's cramped as fuck. Plus it has all the benefits of a house without the price tag.
I'd rather just get a house lol
the tiny house thing is just a fucking meme for people who can't accept that they should basically live in a trailer
How about a nice cardboard box? Costs you nothing and the cardboard is an insulator keeping you warm
you already suggested the $70k version of that
This one seemed more appropiate for your budget
this idea is why i own crypto
i don't need to be rich
just rich enough to travel around in a van
>being dumb enough to blow 70k on a "tiny house"
kek
The real route is to find some folks who don't mind a cheap plot. Buy an ancient RV for a few hundred dollars and camp in it until you feel financially comfortable enough to afford a place. I guess it really depends on if you care about the kind of box you're living in. I obviously don't.
pretty much this here, although I can already afford a van like that, just considering if I should pull the trigger and do it but it would be 40% of my money gone
I hope you make it one day user, and comfily travel the entire world
sounds like a solid plan, just not as versatile as the DIY 30k van user was suggesting
DON'T do it if you are an introvert
if you have enough to buy the van and still have 60k left that would be all i was aiming for
good luck
There are better and worse ideas, I'd say. I wouldn't want to drive my home to work. The real way to do it, I'd say, is a truck and a fifth wheel camper. Post your home up somewhere in the hills, maybe a campsite or something, and have the versatility of driving the truck wherever you want without having to move your whole setup constantly. I guess it really depends on how little you want. I'd hate to be living on the side of the highway with a blown up motor waiting on a guy to come and haul my house off, though.
being an introvert seems the perfect reason for doing it
i never need to see another human being ever again
van + scooter or something perhaps
How do you figure? Mechanics, people at camp sites on vacation, people at the places you're showering and shopping. I mean, I can see a few reasons it could put you into a situation in which you need to confront human interaction. But I find that to be good for people with social anxiety too. Maybe people who are introverts for other reasons not so much.
Yeah, or maybe one of those electric bikes if you're in an area with well maintained roads and so forth. Hook it up to the back with a cargo bay and keep a spare battery handy, drive it around town. Would be a real gamble leaving the van somewhere dense like that though, I'd think. Would definitely want to pick somewhere with security cameras. Or I guess you could rig a security setup, too? Maybe with a 4g connection you could stream trackers and cameras. Hell, some new vehicles you can keep from starting digitally even. The future is getting pretty cool.
i can pretend i don't want to be totally alone when i have to and can get by very well in social situations
i'd just rather not, but realise this isn't very likely
i could accept a 90/10 ratio of non-interaction vs interaction though
When are 3d printed houses that cost under 10k gonna become available to purchase
all cars for the past 10 years or so have immobilizer on the engine, which literally prevents it from starting if you don't have the key to which it connects, so worst case scenario somebody robs your laptop or phone that you keep in the van, doubt they would steal your clothes or dishes
Yeah that's the point. You have an entire interior of a house in that van, they could steal it all. Nobody steals cars anymore, you steal the license plate.
I've got a good safe, and I live far off from any place that a crackhead would care to hike to, so it works out pretty well. Never had anything stolen, or if I did I guess it wasn't particularly important. I'd just be nervous about parking a van in a city or something, considering that regular cars get their rims and so forth pilfered all the time. It'd just seem like a target. Maybe if it was an inconspicuous enough van.
I’ll inheret a house in a few years and another one in 20-30. I don’t need to live in a van
>2018
>unironically living in a van
>the actual state of america
Run into a small fender bender but you also hit the front axle sure we can fix it but its going to take 7 days, now youre homeless and without a car. I would go the caravan route you can park that thing on a camping and drive into the city or just follow the season labor and travel around a bit
My house appreciated around 7% in a year.
Your van immediately lost money and will depreciate constantly
Living in a van is literal hobo-tier, might as well live under a bridge
damn that looks really comfy for 38k, I might actually buy that, wish there were more pictures of the inside
Yeah $300 rent doesn't exist anywhere in the world that isn't crime infested or an actual building in the middle of nowhere, you'll either get robbed or have to drive an hour to get groceries
americans are eay poorer on average than eurofags and we are fucking obese. we really need to fix our country everything went down the drain
If I had something good to invest the money in (I own an apt) I'd love to do it. I'd get double freedom because I feel freer the less objects I own.
sprinters suck get a proper rv
im telling you right now from first hand experience hvac is a nightmare in vans. you are going to be spending all day in a starbucks because it will be way too hot to spend time in during the day
solar is not even close to being able to meet your ac needs so the only alternative is hookups or a generator
It's too fucking cold to live in a van where I am.
I feel like a massive solar panel and a big battery or two should be more than enough during the summer, worst case scenario will be charging the batteries at RV camps or ev chargers
I own a 2500sqft house in a nice white suburb, and this looks.comfy to me.
Never. How would they meet (((building codes))) goy?!
You should definitely live in your van, frens. Nobody will call you an NPC when youre the autist that starts to smell one day and security makes you move. That's unique af
Pretty soon I read about those on Jow Forums
>be amerimutt
>live in richest country on the planet
>be half a mill in debt for student loans
>end up living in a van
More than I bought my house for
What aboit shipping container houses is that still a thing?
this
its also dangerous and degenerate.
also never buy a van that's ridiculous. At least buy a detachable camper/trailer so you can drive around without all your stuff.
I looked into these but you'd have to buy land and convert them and all but also decently cheap option. The van is nicer imo since you can travel.
But then you need to safeguard the trailer, which means keeping it on someone else's property, which will cost a lot more than free parking. In contrast the Van is stealth mode. You can even put stickers that suggest the van is part of a pest removal business.
Check vids about how it is to live in a RV
youtube.com
dont buy a van. You want to be able to detach your house from your vehicle otherwise it's hell to drive this whole thing every time to go grocery shopping etc.
yeah if you just want to stop anywhere and sleep wherever you want it's better. But it's much less spacious.
