Statistics are skewed by the number of people who get second and third divorces. Also more educated people who marry later are more likely to stay together.

Imo the success of a marriage is less about the "compatibility" of the partners and not much at all about the giddy feeling of love they initially have for each other; it is simply about two people who want to be married and want to stay married, and also about basic compatibility which usually boils down to how similar people are to their partners (more similar = same ethnicity, religion, socio-economic status = more stable marriage). I bet I could create a computer algorithm that with a few inputs could pair people together into far more stable marriages than happens with chance alone.
