In germany we also got suburban neighborhoods but those are literal ghost towns. You walk around there and you don't see one single soul.

Mine was completely fine and we had a supermarket, a few restaurants and shops, and a gas station right by my house, I could just turn a corner and walk for a minute and there it was, or if I was feeling rebellious I could just hop over the short brick wall on the edge of the neighborhood and bam, parking lot nearby. There was no loud highway, even though the area only had about 5 designs for houses every house was unique and easy to recognize because the people actually had personality, and there were trees everywhere and there was even an elementary school right in the middle, and the other schools were within walking distance. and this was actually almost completely surrounded by a commercial area so you could walk in any direction and find what you were looking for.
I thought the McMansion suburbs filled with rocks 30 minutes outside of town were fairly new, like 2010 or something. is this an eastern thing?

Suburbs are great if you are a virgin single white male (and want to stay that way) or are raising a family. Otherwise they are awful.

Eastern washington for 16 years and Colorado for 3. both were just normal places with normal people and normal houses. and by normal I dont mean "le soulless robots" i mean just a chill area where people are happy because they actually are.

My mother lives in Florida, and the nearest store - Walmart, is like an hour walk away (Maybe 4 or 5 mi away I think?). Not a problem driving, but you definitely would not walk to it often if ever even

i live in the western midwest and have not seen anything like what is posted here and getting to stores is like a 6 minute walk, park is maybe 2 minutes from any house in the neighborhood, bike/walking trail that goes throughout a lot of the city is maybe 10 minute walk away. there are some neighborhoods farther away that you would have to drive 5 or 10 minutes to a store and the lake suburbs are even farther out. the most soulless suburbs ive seen were in colorado at the base of some mountains 15-20 min drive from anything, although i did see some of the best suburbs in that state too.

I think too many people on Jow Forums equate suburbs with middle of fucking nowhere, plains for as far as you can see. When in reality, most of the suburbs are like an hour drive away from city centers
