Russky Bridge is the longest cable-stayed bridge in the world, which is pretty cool.
I also read somewhere that Vladivostok is the closest port to the Equator that freezes in winter, so they need ice-breakers. Their yearly average high temperature is lower than the average low temperature in my hometown, which lies around the same latitude and even a bit more to the north!

i suppose it's somewhat perspective place because it looks like it wins khabarovsk as the russian far eastern capital i.e. as a major hub

the land was sparesly populated by chinese and some native people, but those natives always were very rare unlike in say yakutia or even kamchatka

there are some stuff to watch there but tourism is only developing yet

the water is 19c right now, the swim season (june - september) is ending

but don't forget it's on the same latitude as the southern coast of france

Last time I took a flight on Asiana they were running a tourism feature on Yuzno-Sakhalisnk and playing up the 10% or whatever Russo-Koreans on the island. I doubt visitors from Seoul would be impressed.

I have heard the shortage of accomodation is a issue due to rapid attention. The investors are now focus on it, then they will invest more wide coverage, with many other european and american companies and american. I hope the city is not too much infected American culture becase it is going to be boring to see American fast food restaurants everywhere.

well, burgers came there in the 90ss, the original cafe that sold them ran out of business and closed but vladivostok got burger king and kfc instead

year that's why I am saying it to you. Our big cities are full of them, it is pity and sad that we lose our culture, small shops. We used to have like kissaten ( coffee shop) culture we could make feel comfortable but now it is swollowed by american giant firm like Statbucks. It is sad.

I only saw Nips in my Uni, they were "education in Japan promouters". I even had to be EN-RU volunteer-translator for a while. They were nice and gifted me some Japanese goods in return.

The second hand cars in Japan are really cheap if you do not dream to have laxuary ones.
The costs you need to pay are taxes $1000 bucks a year, provate insurance $500 -10000
and compulsory 2 years inspection fees. If you save money it is quite affordable for cheap salary men. Many companies here offer you transportation costs in your salary.

That place was discovered during end of Crimean War by Anglo-French squadron. They located in Hakodate and looked for Russian ships in Manchuria. They named some bays and shit (Empress Eugénie Archipelago still has name gave by them (in honor of wife of Napoleon 3)). They catch a French man who lived among locals (There were two Frenchmen who looked for gold. One returned to Peking and one stayed with locals or was enslaved by them idk).
So long story short that place was granted by Manchu emperor to Russia (1860). Chinese people weren't allowed to live in Dongbei until 1850s so there were only Tungus locals/

Then Russian came on a ship named "Mandzhur" (Manchu) and built a fort here in Vladivostok.
After Chinese-Soviet border conflict almost all pre-Russian geo names were changed in this region. i.e.: popular here beach Shamora is Lazurnaya (azure) and a place near by Vladivostok was called Pachikheza (Sirenevka (Lilac plant) now). Slavyanka bay was Tulamu. etc.
