Raw milk in America is unsafe, you're probably safer about the handling of stuff in Europe, but we produce so much that the FDA has to take wide overarching measures to try and insure safety. The funny thing is that our analog cheese is actually preferred by some countries because it's less like traditional cheese, and these countries are largely lactose intolerant.

I just calculated for fun, the USA produces about 15.9kg (35lb) of cheese yearly per capita. It's 44.6kg (98lb 5oz) here. :^)

Our cheeses are great but most foreigners are only aware of feta. But really, we have a variety of really good ones. Feta, mizithra, manouri, metsovone, graviera, kefaloturi, katiki, logadi, formaela just to name a few.

I usually buy Greek cheeses cause those are the ones I like the most. But sometimes I'll buy some French moldy cheese cause I really like it and we don't have something similar.
