hello, Jow Forums, I'm working on an ICO project. I'm working on my whitepaper right now and I've run across a major issue.
I think it's an almost unsolvable problem to be quite honest. I'm really thinking hard about it. Just wanted to get opinions on this. It seems to never be discussed.
>Decentralized social media platform. >Point of decentralization is to prevent censorship/control
>sick degenerate fucks start using platform >they decide to post gore videos, CP, other illegal shit etc. >no way to moderate/censor them
If you give the dev team the ability to censor, it destroys the entire point. If you put in a flagging system, then if enough idiots flag things they can censor it.
How do you moderate a decentralized platform without making the entire point of decentralization pointless?
fuck all you can do, i presume even though the platform is decentralized you are still the 'owner' and (((they))) will just ban it for hosting illegal content
Owen Gonzalez
Let them. It'll be funny.

let the community decide if it's appropriate by downvoting, upvoting (like in reddit or stack overflow for example)
Jack Murphy
Not sure if this would work technically, but you could require rating/flagging of like 3 random posts prior to submitting your own. This would put the responsibility on statistically impartial viewers, rather than people who might specifically seek out posts they disagree with.
Luis Campbell
You mean create a hivemind and another reddit-like echochamber?
Tbh an anonymous image board like this would be the best way to do decentralized social media. However OP, dont expect to make a lot of money off of it as it could get banned for all the reasons you stated. Also, good luck cashing out your own tokens if your site ends up being a hub for illegal shit
Evan Russell
Freedom is a double-edged sword. If you're free from prosecution why does it matter to you what is posted on the platform?
John Young
An imageboard would be very neat, I just don't want degenerates using the platform. I'm not even sure if I'll continue on with the idea due to this problem.
I don't want a hive mind and like said I don't want people removing/censoring things that they specifically disagree with.

You dont have the skill to make this. Stay in school.
I mean you can do it just be aware that itll be extremely hard to make any money off of it. If I had the skill I would probably make a decentralized image board just for lels as well but I'm not there yet.
Brandon Hernandez
If the system is decentralized it would mean that users host the content peer to peer, no? If so, you could implement a block button that opts users out of hosting content from specific users or whatnot.

Morals. Having ethics in mind. Principles. Compassion. Not being a degenerate lord of scum.
Parker Sullivan
The only way to ban immutable decentralized autonomous information is with the user, that's the intent. Amoral.

I'm really thinking hard about it. Just wanted to get opinions on this. It seems to never be discussed. >>Decentralized social media platform. >>Point of decentralization is to prevent censorship/control The point is more avoiding centralized control. In an established systen this leads to censorship.
>>sick degenerate fucks start using platform >>they decide to post gore videos, CP, other illegal shit etc. >>no way to moderate/censor them It's a possibility, sure. As creator you are in a position to seed the platform with what you like (or dislike) as an individual from the start. You set the tone. This is as fair as PoW coins that get heavily mined by early adopters. It's their reward for punctuality.
>If you give the dev team the ability to censor, it destroys the entire point. If you put in a flagging system, then if enough idiots flag things they can censor it.
Not exactly. If everyone has censorship abilities, censorship is decentralized. In the beginning, the devs would just be the most frequent posters, and thus the most frequent censors. A wannabe superuser could post puppy sodomy pics, and if enough people like it it would stay. This is sorta like a 51% attack on content. Imo it's the creators job to cultivate a community to grow out a healthy chain, or fight off a sick one.
Also, idiot is subjective -- here it means deviant or weirdo. An idiot on plebbit would be anyone from Jow Forums, and an idiot on the Nambla forums would be someone that didn't like diddling little boys. Subjective.
>How do you moderate a decentralized platform without making the entire point of decentralization pointless?
As a creator, you can design a system that enables policing based on value added to network (freq. & quality of interactions, freq. & quality of ratings)
Nicholas Johnson
Hi Jow Forums, I want to allow people to do whatever they want without anyone being able to censor them. How do I censor them with they start doing stuff I don't like?
Isaac Flores
>Hi Jow Forums, I'm a pedophile, why shouldn't I burn in hell?
Logan Bennett
>Decentralized social media platform retarded idea. next?
Eli Price
yea you're the retard
Owen Perez
That's random thread you useless user. Disgraceful.
Jaxon Anderson
I don't even think pedos would even want to post that shit on an immutable public forum. Seems like piss poor opsec.
