You can be an asshole or nice-ish as long as it is congruent and you aren't needy. The reason why girls love assholes is because they're hard to get and they're not needy betas who will ask for feefees and mommy milkies every 10 minutes. A hot or even regular looking girl is showered with attention and nice words/compliments but guys who are nice to her have a hidden agenda (to fuck her) so they come off as needy/creepy/beta. On the other hand a lot of guys will try being a dick to her just to fuck her, because they hear that's what girls like, but this doesn't work either because it's incongruent and needy as they're only doing it for her validation/vag.
