Born and raised New Yorker, here. This is the worst event to attend on NYE. My mom took me to it one year as a kid and some lady spilled her coffee on me. Watching the ball drop at home with friends is way comfier.
That said, NYE is overrated as fuck. People hype it up too much and get let down when the night doesn't live up to their expectations. My best one was two years ago and I didn't even drink. I spent it in a hotel room with some chick I unironically bagged off reddit.

I'll also add that Times Square is just a shitty neighborhood in general and is best completely avoided unless you're drunk at 3am when it's not insanely crowded.

Ive always had a good time on new years, but you can't blow it up into some big huge thing and treat it like it has to be the best night of your life up until that point. That's way too much pressure to have a good time.
Also, lol@standing in one place all day in the cold on new years, go to a fucking house party. I dont even get wanting to go to a club for new years, house parties are way comfier, way more chill with less rules and you can buy a whole bottle for the price of 3 or 4 drinks at a bar on new years with their jacked up prices
