Self Employment

How did you know it was time to quit your job and work for yourself?

I’m sort of in that position now, but don’t think it’s wise to up and quit just yet.

>but don’t think it’s wise to up and quit just yet.
why and what is your plan?

i couldn´t motivate me for anything work related.
i sat in my office and i didn´t care about anything.

therefore they gave me all the stupid customers because i was so "chill and relaxed"

i started my own busines on the side, reselling stuff on ebay

Continue doing it outside of my current full time job.

Might be stupid but I want to trade in used cars. I have a dealer license and have for awhile, and a few friends and I have formed an LLC and we’re all members. We’ve got a small shop/lot space and fairly low expenses. At this point it’s more of a hobby for 2/3 of us, but if I went all in I can see this thing taking off. l

I just need a dose of reality from the outside. I have a pretty stable but unfulfilling and mediocre paying job working for the federal government, but I am about to obtain my CPA license which will help as a fallback of sorts if I can’t make decent money selling cars.

>working for other people and not directly benefiting in the profits gained from your work
you quit your job the moment you realize this if you have any self-worth.

>you quit your job the moment you realize this if you have any self-worth.

this is short

you also have no risk being employed.
you can fuck up bigtime and go home at 5
you get paid holidays etc.

in your own busines, every mistake can be your last one, especially in the beginning.
99% of all new busines won´t succeed, and it is not because all of them are stupid.
one client who doesn´t pay could be enough to bring you in danger.

therefore i advice everybody to first start it as a hobby or sidehustle and see how it goes.

>going all in yolo
is a fucking retarded meme

31-32 years old. I was skint and depressed and knew working a 9 to 5 would keep me depressed. Had no income, less than a hundred quid to my name, no real prospects, no real social circle, no life.
Launched my first business and joined the gym, made an effort to improve my health and life in general.

Now 34, have run two successful businesses, taken up photography, am one of the strongest guys in my gym, have a gorgeous girlfriend I'm visiting York with this weekend, generally happy in life and battling to find and create new opportunities for myself fairly regularly.
Fairly sure none of it would've went this way had I went for another office job.

>going all in yolo
>is a fucking retarded meme
It is exactly what I am doing.
BUT! and that is it, because I know I can sit for the next 6 months on my ass doing nothing and still get my bill paid because of some backup money from crypto.

I can do the business slowly and without constant pressure.
If crypto really rises I am save for some more time.
I am far from rich but at leat the bills are paid.

This is awesome to read, what are your businesses? Starting to learn UX/web design currently so I can open up more opportunities for myself.

>you also have no risk being employed.
Other way round. Employment is generally FAR more risky than self employment for most market and trades. Employment has all the risks of self employment plus more simply down to the fact that you have no control over the choices made around you other than those below you, and even then only for the people you immediately affect unless your very friendly with the CEO in almost all cases
>you can fuck up bigtime and go home at 5
Simply delusional unless you're working some minimum wage joke job
>you get paid holidays etc.
I don't see how this helps you over self employment
>in your own busines, every mistake can be your last one
That's never been the case in either of my two businesses, nor is the case in any job I can think of
>especially in the beginning.
99% of all new busines won´t succeed, and it is not because all of them are stupid.
one client who doesn´t pay could be enough to bring you in danger
Preposterous beyond belief

You sound completely ignorant and delusional mate

First one is digital goods sold wholesale. Second is re-selling physical goods to foreign markets, primarily ebay, amazon and other large platforms. It takes more time investment but it's slightly more bread and butter

>Starting to learn UX/web design currently so I can open up more opportunities for myself.
Right on, I did web design for myself 15 years ago and made a few quid during college, I also did it commercially and it's absolutely soul destroying dealing with client requests under a boss and balancing two sides of stupidity. BUT it pays good so if you can deal with the shit it's a quick way to make bank
So good luck

>You sound completely ignorant and delusional mate

maybe, nevertheless you can look up the statistics of failure of new businesses.

i always tell people who believe theyre not one of these, theyre different the following:
take 500€ and try to flip things on ebay for one month to double or triple it after fees and all costs.
if you can do that, you got the skill to be an entrepreneur.
if you aren´t capable of that, you just can´t sell shit and probably lack skills.

4 years ago at 24 after 11 months of wage-slaving when I realised I could do it all on my own, get 100% commission that way and travel the world doing it.
barely worked these last 2 years and now that link is going parabolic I'll even be filthy rich doing it.
what a clown timeline I live on

>i always tell people
like you that they are retards. what a boomer mentality

Seems like the real secret is own LINK

Fuck off with ERC20 shit token.
An own blockchain or even own developed blockchain tech is all I need.

literal risk-adverse low t mental gymnastics

>maybe, nevertheless you can look up the statistics of failure of new businesses.
I did when I started, self employment is far more profitable statistically than employment. It's also far more successful in terms of lifetime/length of employment, albeit slightly less than it was 20 years ago.
Public companies are generally less successful and the number goes down to something like only 70% being profitable after X years, but it's still a better bet than employment for your average joe with a college education in my mind

>take 500€ and try to flip things on ebay for one month to double or triple it after fees and all costs.
So your qualification for whether someone will "succeed" going self-employed is based on an arbitrary number and goal pulled out of your arse on an auction site which you somehow see as being an entrepreneur if successful? Despite that having nothing to do with all but a few basement dwelling weirdos on the internets idea of an income stream?

You're far more delusional than I thought

>So your qualification for whether someone will "succeed" going self-employed is based on an arbitrary number and goal pulled out of your arse on an auction site which you somehow see as being an entrepreneur if successful? no you just dont get it.

you can chose any example you like, you need to succeed at a lower scale with your skills to be able to succeed at a higher level.

if you aren´t cabable of doing basic busines you aren´t capable of doing busines at much higher scale.

i don´t really care what you think or don´t this are simple basics and mongolian bragging aka
>self employment is always better always profitable and always the right way

this is below 80iq garbage

Self enwagecuckment

I did it because I hated my job.
I had no plans or savings.

I went back home and lived in my mom's attic.
Watched Twitch all day, baked all day.
Did this for 4 years, with a few attempts to make money here and there.

Some online freelancing, releasing some mobile apps, etc.
One went viral and earned me several hundred thousand dollars.

Then I read a post on Reddit talking about bitcoin possibly mooning to $10,000 (it was $900 then). I bought in with 50% of my money, and now I'm set for life.

I still watch Twitch all day in my mom's attic, still baked all day, but I've now made it into an air-conditioned room, and I can go fuck hookers in nearby Asian massage parlors whenever I want. And I can buy whatever I want.

I'm in my second year for BCom what do I need to do to get a CPA/CFA most likely going for CFA and any advice on something I should do while still in uni

Likely true and one of the saddest things I've ever read. Thanks.

at leat give your mom a hug every now and then and buy her a new good kitchen.

when I started getting really behind at my job because I was making more money being self-employed. One morning I just decided, fuck it, not going in

Selling 500 bucks worth of stuff isn't business no matter how you look at it. If anything it's a very bad lesson in how to use ebay. Regardless it's still miles away from 99.9% of self employment options and routes out there.
And I say this as someone who literally nets now upwards of a couple grand from ebay alone every month

>self employment is always better always profitable and always the right way
I didn't say that. I interjected when you said the inverse because it was ludicrous nonsense pulled out of your anus.

You're a delusional idiot who has no idea what he's talking about and it's frankly weird

I've been wanting to quit my job since day one but I'm too stupid, have no physical ability, and no skills I can turn into a job. My brain has been rotted by countless hours of waging, I don't think anymore or have hopes and dreams. I just sleep, go to work, work, come home, wait to go to sleep, sleep, work... I'm cattle at this point. Useless stupid cattle and I hate it.

I really want to not get to this point in my career.

But fuck, I’m getting a steady paycheck, 401k, PTO and health insurance. Pays the bills but isn’t fun or fulfilling in the slightest.

> 33 years old w/ masters degree

> get offered temp contract job with masters degree (40k)
> side gigs pick up to making $1500+ a month

> writing ebook about music business and launching consulting business

What did your app do?

Dope, congratulations my dude

I work as a security guard on the graveyard shift and use the time to work as a webdev. 8 hours to myself in an empty office building. It’s quiet, let’s me focus, and I’m basically getting paid to make websites.
