> Ford today announced it will phase out most cars it sells in North America. According to its latest financial release, the auto giant “will transition to two vehicles” — the Mustang and an unannounced vehicle, the Focus Active, being the only traditional cars it sells in the region.
Never fear, rednecks, it looks like the SUVs and trucks will continue:
Good. Fords top the worst cars I've owned. Every week another fucking sensor goes out in a hard to reach area. Fuck them and their shitty designs.
Joseph Foster
Nobody buys sedan type cars anymore. They just buy an SUV like an Explorer. The only people I see driving Ford cars are the cops and those SHO's or whatever.
Jaxon Fisher
Eh, maybe. Bad news for the economy though. I imagine most of the US will be underwater and/or glowing soon enough anyhow
SHO was the only sedan worth attention, although it lacked character and as such was a failure, something like Chevy SS sedan. Fast, but looks like Impala. Same with Ford, SHO is fast, and a decent car overall, but super bland.
Andrew Evans
Not muh f150
Robert Morales
The US economy hasn't been based on manufacturing for decades. Ford could literally disappear over night and the only people that would be complaining are its stock owners and its employees. Sheeeit, a reduction in us manufacturing would hurt Canada and Mexico more than the US.
Jace Walker
"In less than two years, Ford will cycle out the Fiesta, Fusion, and Taurus. It will also hocus-pocus the Focus into an "active crossover," ending its run as a traditional compact car."
I mean they sold how many millions of Fusions and they're just cutting them? How can they not have a full size sedan? Are people really that in love with crossovers, SUV's, and Pickups?
Benjamin Taylor
Seems foolish when the F150 is still the most bought truck in the USA.
Jaxon Fisher
Oh just cars... I am dumb
Sebastian Lewis
The article implies that they'll still make trucks and SUVs.
Xavier Russell
are they still planning on selling the ford timelord ?
Hmm, I forget what this shit is call, but there is an economic theory that explains this move. Essentially, there is limited display space at a car sales store(?... the name escapes me). lets say that at first you split the display parking lot 50/50 between two types of cars. You sell all of them. Car A sells for a 5k profit, and car B sells for a 2k profit. Now, even though you sell every single car in your lot, it isn't a sound business strategy to keep the distribution at 50/50. There would be a sweet spot to maximize profits per foot of display area and sometimes that means removing one item all together.
In the case of manufacturing you'd just replace "display area" with "units per minute" to get essentially the same concept.
Elijah Nelson
I actually cant think of another car they make, other than the mustang.
Ford GT and Shelby Cobra are way overpriced in a different category.
So this is not very surprising and sounds like a pretty good idea honestly. Dodge has the low/mid priced market for cool American cars locked up, and Chevy has a couple too.
Those who can afford to them but them, those who can't don't need options/were buying Camrys anyway. By focusing on a single product you can focus your marketing efforts and not cannibalize from yourself.
I didn't understand it either until I rented a Ford Edge to go on a long road trip through the mountains. I happened to get a brand new one with less than 100 miles on it. It was a magical experience, incredibly comfortable with wide seats and leg room.
That and pickups get you laid. It says "I am a man and I can afford gas"
Cannibalism. For every person who could have bought a 5k markup car some will see the 2k markup car and buy that.
Aaron Sanchez
This is probably smart.
Ian Ross
Scott Pruitt is based. keep in mind Q predicted this would happen and its a good thing.
Andrew Bell
I see Lexus Audi Toyota and Honda sedans everywhere. Crossovers are king though.
Christopher Wilson
Yes but how much of the appeal of car A is due to the mere existence of car B, C, D etc ?
Caleb Murphy
Aren't SUVs and trucks under less government regulation when it comes the fleet fuel economy and safety? If so, this might simply be a case of sedans being too expensive compared to the less regulated SUV and truck categories.
I didn't see anything about the sedans with a Lincoln badge. Perhaps that will be the brand for the company's sedans?
Robert Mitchell
Because nobody wants a pussy ass car
Jaxson Myers
The Shelby is priced just like the competition.
Hudson Long
Ok you're a fucking retard. Are you a 1990s Chevy executive?
>Ok you're a fucking retard Did you misunderstand the proposition ? the sales of car A exist in a universe where car B also exists, if you remove car B the rules change, you can't alter one part of the equation without expecting other parts of it to change too.
Zachary Murphy
>For every person who could have bought a 5k markup car some will see the 2k markup car and buy that. If only this were true. You'd be surprised just how little people care about actually saving money. I mean, they like to think they are saving money, but the savings are usually superficial. If they really wanted to save they'd take the bus. >Yes but how much of the appeal of car A is due to the mere existence of car B, C, D etc ? There might be some basis to this, but that doesn't mean that the manufacturer or seller of Car A has to be the one to make it or sell it. Do you think people buy specific Lambos becuase they are better than other Lambos? Maybe, but that doesn't change the fact that they buy Lambos because they are better than Hondas.
Austin Phillips
you are missing the big picture. This has to do with the deregulation of the EPA by Scott Pruitt and why the left was so desperate to get rid of him. >Obama era EPA regulations saying that American auto manufacturers have to maintain a fleet wide fuel economy weighted average of something like 40mpg >this means that for every 20mpg F150 they make they have to make 2 50mpg focuses for the EPA regulation >problem is that in the US over 60% of the cars people drive are SUVs and trucks with low fuel economy >this is killing us auto makers because no one gives a fuck about a Ford Fusion when you are importing corollas and camrys and accords by the ass load yet they still have to making these cars to meet standards >Scott Pruitt enters the EPA to fuck this shit up and free us auto makers from this europhile commie Obama bullshit >liberals autistically screech about pruitts ethics because if he successfully repeals this the US automakers will be rejuvenated and it will be a massive massive win for the trump economy.
Levi Johnson
The entirety of the investment casting and injection molding industry is dependent on automotive as a sector. If Ford stopped making cars it would tear down the entire market
Daniel Hernandez
Any Ford SUV/Pick Up and Hatchback will be untouched.
Parker Morgan
>but that doesn't mean that the manufacturer or seller of Car A has to be the one to make it or sell it. Whoops, I mean the manufacturer of car A doesn't have to be the one to make B,C,D, etc.
Joseph Hughes
Im a chevy salesmen and own a 2012 ford fusion. It's literally my favorite sedan other than the chevy SS. The way it feels while driving is just perfect and everyone that drives it says how much they like it to. Sad to hear they won't be making them anymore. >robo cars inc
Tyler Torres
Not surprised. Everyone drives japanese cars and Hyundai now.
that's a pretty crazy thought hundreds of thousands of miles of arable land going underwater or becoming irradiated is quite impossible unless the entire world is underwater or irradiated
Nicholas Butler
>Every PD and sheriff's dept buys your sedans >Still can't make money This is poor management
Ah yes, just like when burgers stopped buying burger cars. Globalization. It's stupid really that the European makes feel so god damn confident and arrogant in their supposed prestige or superior engineering that they're blind to the Asians gaining ground in their own markets. Exactly what happened in burger land. And we know the rest of the story. Soon you'll become a mutt republic that imports everything from China like us.
Wyatt White
Yup they want to sell $50k SUVs and not $25k cars. Then add in new regs coming down in the next decade and that SUV will likely be starting at $100k. This is the reason ford clearly said they plan to be out of direct car sales by 2025 only selling fleets. The days of owning your own car are soon to be gone. Welcome the new trackable and government mandated shared car subscription service.
Lucas Cox
Me, sedan + pickup master race. Fuck suvs and crossovers.
Hunter Gutierrez
Interestingly if anyone remembers the original incantation of the focus, it was basically a small crossover.
The shills are reaching 100% slide mode. Remember to THINK before posting. They only win if we aren't careful. >inflammatory or idiotic question? >(((meme flag)))? >Jewy perspective? >conspiratard ideas that even Jow Forumsacks avoid. >non-Jow Forums topic? Also post redpills. They are inherently productive plus 150 images kills a thread. DONT FORGET TO SAGE
This is an example of Jevons paradox, when you increase the efficiency of using a resource people use MORE of it
As engines get more efficient people will use the gains to drive big ass SUV's and trucks, this is why people who say shit like "huur we don't need oil muh electric cars" are retarded oil demand is only going accelerate
Oil prices are also going to moonshot soon going to possibly $200/barrel followed by 2008 economic collapse 2: hypercollapse. The oil glut is over, venezuela production is collapsing, new sanctions against Iran taking 700k barrels off the market, and well decline rates of 5-10% that decline far faster than American frackers can pick up the slack
How long before we have to bail out these fucks again and in return they'll send more American jobs to Mexico to thank us? You are doing a better job supporting American values buying a fucking accord. At least Honda wants to invest in us, Ford just wants to rape us.
Easton Gonzalez
relative few fords are sold in Europe.. It doesn't seems to sell well at all.
Jayden Cox
>Nobody buys Ford sedans type cars anymore Fixed it for you bud. Ford is seemingly one of the only companies having issues selling them.
Ethan Kelly
And they can never compete with European quality and design.
>Ford Drops Sedan and Hatchback Lineup >except for Mustang and Focus Gee I wonder what happened when they did that before 2008? They're really betting on oil prices not rising drastically.
They dumped their minivan, which wasn't missed as that was pure, unadulterated bullshit on four wheels. The Japanese and Koreans make better family vans. Ford of NA had a decades-long tradition of purposely hobbling their midsize vans. The Euro-spec Transit Connect doesn't get their special treatment. Ford UK won't allow it.
What about the Taurus? There's a lot of law enforcement that need continued product support for at least 4 years. However law enforcement agencies are ponying up more money for the Explorer, as it is the most suitable Crown Vic replacement. The Taurus, even with its mafia-sized boot, is lacking in interior space after the police car upfit.
Ford Fusion is also a strong seller, but I guess trucks and SUVs are more popular. They want people to buy their crossover, which is an easy $1,000 extra per unit sale.
No one drives the C-MAX. That is a Euro car that is poorly suited to US market. Small MPVs have long been abandoned in the NA market.
Mason King
>what is a camry
Logan Gutierrez
Most of these other models were built in Mexico so hopefully not too many American jobs will be lost.
Fiesta offends most American sensibilities by being too small. It's out of place on the interstates, where the lanes can easily be twice as wide as the car itself.
The Mondeo was a sales failure. Ford sold the Mondeo as the Five-Hundred and no one bought it. The remainder are sold on auction lots with broken throttle bodies.
Electric cars are the future. If the new tesla semi takes off I dont see how any trucker would get a new diesel truck especially since they are most likely to travel to the factory to get one. only thing the oil industry is needed for anymore is synthetic goods like plastic.
Alexander Hall
>Fiesta The name is offensive. It is like wearing a party hat to a suicide.
Jacob Adams
>If the new tesla semi takes off I dont see how any trucker would get a new diesel truck
UPS already placed an order for the EV semis
I’m really hoping some auto manufacturers comes up with an EV light pickup, something like a ranger or f150, 4WD, that would be perfect for my comfy homestead. I keep going through shitty second hand trucks just so I can haul , rock, mulch, straw and cow shit onto my property.
