I think the EU has served its purpose for us. It saved us from the US. No matter why it was set up and for what purpose it has saved us from US dominance and becoming another US vessel to serve the American empire. you seem to think the empire represented you, but it was more like a corporation with the british brand on it, similar to the american military and it's international ambitions. the real power got their loot and happily moved on to their next projects when it was advantageous to them. they had no problem abandoning britain because there was no loyalty to it to begin with.
Trust me I know about the Empire and what they did. They spread tech throughout the broken world and they build the middle east and created our biggest enemies and made them rich. Then we lost control when they became rich.
