This is why pregnant women are forbidden to change cat litter boxes. A toxoplasmosis infection may have no obvious symptoms, in fact I have read in places like Britain the infection rate is estimated at 25% of the population. Globally the number is 30-50% and in France as much as 80% of the population may be infected.
Toxoplasmosis causes all kinds if abberant behaviors. Infected rats are sometimes observed walking right up to cats without fear.
In humans it is strongly linked to schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.

lots of animals carry this and you can get it other ways than just having cats. besides, you'd need to ingest the cat feces to get it. keeping the cat litter away from the kitchen and washing your hands will prevent it.
