White people have this crazy belief that you are responsible for your own life and if you dont want to live in a nursing home you should plan amd save when you can....instead of burdening your children and wasting good years of their life.

My aunty got power of attorney of my grandmother and dumped her in a nursing home when she went deaf. She was fine apart from having to get hearing aids.

While she was in the home she mortgaged 90% of my grandmothers house and spent 18 months buying shit and being a degenerate with her husband.

Wouldn't even buy my grandmother hearing aids. Completely fucked my dads family up and my grandmother wound up dying alone and admitting to everyone "I trusted the wrong child"

I can almost guarantee that there are 1000s of other stories like mine and its all because greedy Gen Xers are trying to steal their elders money before wills are made when they die.

My parents wanted to send my grandmother to one of these rotten rape camps. I sold the company I'd been building for the better part of a decade, moved almost a thousand miles from my friends, just to live in her mildewy basement and helped keep her in the home she'd occupied for almost 60 years until the day she passed comfortably in her sleep. And I'd do it again without question.

My grandfather is an asshole and he’s 96 and still somehow healthy. It seems like only the good die young.

She got cancer a few years ago and had to have her breasts removed and she always used her looks to get her way.

I worked as a cook in a nursing home for five years. The kinda shit I saw would be unbelievable from both nurses and CNAs, maintenance, right down to food service.

Nursing homes are notorious for shitty conditions, neglected care, and often times, abuse.

They audit all finacial activities every month, you can serve time if caught doing shady shit like that here

I'll start with the CNAs and Nurses first, then I'll move on.

The CNAs in my nursing home were all Cape Verdeans and Portugese to begin with but I dont blame it on a race issue I just think CNAs and Nurses are shitty people in general. There was a massive amount of neglect going on. You'd get people lying on the floor for hours before CNAs would come handle it. They've gotten calls several times about patients sitting a bed of their own feces and urine for the better part of the day. Nobody gives a shit. CNAs would spend all their time talking at the big desk in the middle of their wing. Often times they would call down to the kitchen to call for meals of their own and disguise it as a patient special order. Often times I'd get calls for about 15-20 grilled cheeses a night. There were times I'd send a couple of my co workers up to get trucks (Where the food trays were delivered) and there'd still be trays sitting there not given to the patients.

No one does paper work, a patient may die and thei meal ticket will still be in the systems getting printed for weeks on end cause no one will change it. Food allergies oftentimes dont get updated, the home would come down hard on us for this,

Maintenance was awful cause the janitors were fucked up gulf war veterans and the two actual handymen were this father/son combo that shit it up all day playing golf instead of fixing things. Often times much in the kitchen was in disrepair for months on end. The maintenance guys never got in trouble cause they'd do construction work within the home for free. They set the floor for our dishroom and it was so bad one whole side of the room didnt drain properly.

The worst from them was they were doing electrical work and half assing it in our dementia care wing. This caused a fire and while we were able to safely evacuate everyone. led to closing down that wing entirely. There was never any real work done.

Food service was exactly as bad as you'd expect. No one wore hair nets/gloves/beard nets. Why should they? Much of the staff was teenagers or fuck up adults. I had a cook who was an ex alcoholic who didnt wear gloves. He'd be prepping food with open sores/cuts on his hands. No one cared, the managers either didnt know what was going or or didnt care.

The only good thing to come from that shit job was the fact that there was so much ignorance ot the issues I started just outright stealing food from the kitchen to bring home. Towards the end of my time there I was doing my grocery shopping cause the cameras didnt work due to maintenance never repairing them. Every day i'd go out to my car with milk crates filled with food and shit and just put it in to take home. nothing ever happened.

This nursing home was in a good part of town too. We werent the most highly rated but we were in decent demand. Keep that in mind if you ever think about putting a family memeber under care. It's not worth it

My sister (an NP) cares for my grandma currently. My dad is grandmas ward and he cuts my sis a deal on rent. Grandmas mind went when my uncle died. She still functions but has no short trem memory. Her situation sucks because at first glance she still 100% good. But without care she would be dead in a week. As noble as taking care of an elderly family member is....it sucks. Its a burden.

Nursing homes as they are now are only a development of the last few decades. They're just another example of the way Boomers and their Silent forebears wrecked the world. Take Grandma and stick her in a nursing home where she gets talked down to and mistreated by fat black women until she falls, breaks a hip and dies when that fat black woman doesn't help her.

My mom cares for my grandma, my uncle (her brother) Doesn't give a shit about his mom at all, he even wanted to kick grandma out of her home so he could give the house to one of his daughters that live off welfare, he even threatened with taking my mom and my grandma to court over it.
