Not really, in practice a simple iq test can judge general intelligence pretty accurately. People who do complex tasks constantly score much higher. It's not even that hard to guess intuitively what your iq is. For example I'm a graduate student in a STEM field and I'd consider myself to be on the lower end of intelligence compared to my colleagues so I actually suggested to a few that we test it out and see how it related to our gre scores and the correlation was really close. I don't remember their gre scores but my iq was tested at 126 and my more successful colleagues were all in around 135-150.
It really sucks but unfortunately the iq is accurate enough and a depressing idea.
It's bothered me for a while because I'm pressured to compete with people a lot more capable than me so I have to get constant help to even get by, and I'll probably have to settle for a somewhat regular job in the field since none of my work is impressive by the current standards. Someone around average iq would never even make into the undergrad program.
