Red Flag Hobbies

What hobbies do you consider a red flag in other people?

e.g. you make a new friend, find out he's into [x] activity and you know to avoid him, or you meet a girl and she's into [x] activity so you drop her immediately

I'll start:
>playing Magic
>playing tabletop games
>watching anime more than occasionally

Virgin

>>playing Magic
>>playing tabletop games
I've met literal chads who are into both.

Jow Forums

>be me
>7/10 not a chad but girls like me
>play warhammer because it's fun
>but also because going into the stores makes me feel effortlessly superior and puts me in a good mood

using meth

The only red flag is no hobby at all. Liking stuff and being into things is cool. It's a major red flag to judge other people based on their hobbies, though.

>tabletop games
What about jail tabletop games like spades, hearts, pinochle, dominoes, chess?
>ib4 clueless anons think being to jail is worse stigma than /tg/ hobbies

I couldn’t care less what my male/female friends do in their free time but when it comes to a potential love interest
>politics (especially if conservative)
>religion
>music (if excessive)

>lack of social skills
>posessiveness
>defining oneself around an interest, political opinion or job
>low introspection

>hobbies

I don't know man, to be fair it seems like a lot of guys around here view their lack of social skills as a hobby and a point of pride.

how is music a bad interest? does anyone just not like any kind of music at all?

Pretty much if you meet a dude and he's into magic the gathering or dungeons and dragons you know he's too nerdy to be alive. Cars are also boring if you have to listen to a dude talk about fixing his car.
As for women, I met a girl once who was "training to be a mermaid," and my friends and I all thought she was super weird.
And all of us ride horses so we're already weird.

>horse girl complaining about other people's hobbies

I'd tell you to get down off your high horse for judging people but that might be too on the nose. I've never met a horse girl who could say more than two sentences without mentioning that she rides.

I'd say Magic is a red flag but RPGs aren't

>trucks (cars are fine)
>knitting/crocheting
>fashion
>activism
>longboarding

I’d say killing small animals, no hobbies (onlybinto say dating) or smoking weed so much that it’s alk they can talk about. In a lot of ways that last one is worse than hard drugs

Well, some horse people have other hobbies too. Personally I only bring it up with other horse people or inviting guests to my competition.
Just answering anons questions, so you don't got to be salty. You could just add equestrian to ops list.

I don’t enjoy music in general other than as a backgroud to whatever game/show I’m playing/watching. I don’t mind if you listen to something in private but the moment you try to shove your musical preferences (which I don’t give a single shit about) down my throat, or try to lecture me about genres I’m out.

>>playing Magic
>>playing tabletop games
>>watching anime more than occasionally
Those are the things that make me want to know them better. I'll avoid people who primarily watch reality television, or people who get all of their memes from facebook.

This.

new friend:
>drugs, though probably not a hobby, some make a lifestyle out of it
>partying more than once a week on a regular basis

new girl:
>same as above plus
>horseriding
>acting
>yoga in groups or for the spirituality of it

Me working on my car has started more legitimate conversations with girls than any of my other hobbies

You don't have to be a basic bitch or a tabletop nerd, there is a lot of space in between.

Memes. First one and I'm out.

Watch television, especially if they watch a show religiously.
They live above their means, debt ect.
And show no interest in self improvement.

You're probably in the hot but dumb category then.

Anime
Video games
Watching films made after 1999
College students and people with college degrees.

Yeah, but, like, tabletop games are fun. And social. What's wrong with /tg/?

What do you guys think about a guy with a really deep interest in movies
Like Quentin Tarantino type passionate autism

It's totally fine, as long as you're not that dickhead who needs to tell everyone why they're wrong for enjoying what they enjoy. It's cool if you recommend stuff to people, but don't shit all over their "mainstream" taste just because you've spent more time watching films than they have

I admit that I don't think there's anything inherently worse about /tg/ than other hobbies, it's just the kind of people it tends to attract (kinds, nerds, unwashed fat cunts, neckbeards) means that the people who play it either fall into one of those categories or associate with a lot of people fall into one of those categories and that's not attractive.

Seems fine as long as you're not a snob.

Furry vore fetishist. People who like transformation and inflation porn.

Dude, tabletop is making a comeback. It's borderline trendy now. You need to let go of those dated associations.

Don't drink the kool-aid too hard my dude.

I am prejudiced because I was a warhammer nerd when I was 12-14. Recently a shittonne of stuff showed up in my youtube recs and I got nostalgic, went down to a games workshop store and the same children/fat/unwashed/loser types were still the ones there. I noped out in under 10 minutes.

I'm aware that games workshop and the other big manufacturers are TRYING to make it trendy, I just don't think it's going to happen any time soon.

based horse girl passing judgment based on a single sentence

>wanted to get back into warhammer
>decided to go down to my local games shop and buy some paints to paint a few leftover dudes I had primed
>the proprietor is a 400lb neckbeard
>everyone there is either a child or a 400lb neckbeard
>buy a brown paint and a wash and never went back
I still enjoy painting the dudes, and will paint the dudes, but I'm buying my shit online.

That's anecdotal evidence. I hear complete normalfags talking about board game night all the time on my extremely liberal university campus. People like I described who love cat memes they find on facebook and rupaul's drag race.

>being into MLP and/or associating with "bronies" by choice
>playing MTG
>dude weed lmao
>drugs in general
>excessive drinking
>religious freak
>political freak
>uniroincally reddit
Basically I can't stand my entire fucking friend group and my brother. All of them fall into 1 or more of these categories. I actually just had a conversation with a friend I hadn't spoken to in about 2 years recently. After the hello's were out of the way he started talking to me about MTG. I tell him I fell out of it and don't like it anymore, got rid of most of my stuff, have no interest in the game at all. He starts talking to me about weed. I don't smoke and never have but I'm not on a high horse about it to other people (not to my knowledge anyways, maybe I am idk). He didn't have anything else to talk about. I instantly remembered why I quit talking to him. 3 days later he hits me up again. "I built a new commander deck. It's really mean. Grixis wizards."

this thread belongs on r9k jesus

Board games are not tabletop games as far as I'm concerned. Everyone grows up playing monopoly and it doesn't make you a nerd.

My other problem with /tg/ shit, having been there myself, is that the people who are into it are unable to think or talk about anything else.

What if I'm into MTG and tabletop games, but am not obese, keep hygienic, and don't usually talk about either with people I know aren't into it?

Going on Jow Forums
>inb4 hurr durr you're on Jow Forums
It's a red flag thread, not a dealbreaker thread

The most obvious is when they say they don't have a hobby. Recently I have met two women that gave me some red flags. One listed browsing tumblr as a hobby, and another said watching Netflix. To me these are basically saying they don't have a hobby.

I can kind of get Netflix. I feel like that could fall in line with being interested in film overall. But Netflix also has reality shows and kardashians so it's likely a sham. Either way, the tumblr thing is a way bigger red flag. That shit is inexcusable.

feminist

I don't really judge hobbies because everyone has one, everyone likes different things and it really depends on how you handle your hobbies vs the rest of your life.

I think the way someone talks about others is a better indicator. Take OP, for example, Whenever I meet someone who views people the way OP does, that's pretty much the biggest red flag ever.

>tells you their "preferred pronouns" upfront
>has said pronouns in their twitter bio
>the word "pronouns" in general unless it's being used in a joke

You've got a point, but in my experience they'll usually specify that. For example, I also know a girl that has said she watches YouTube as a hobby but she specified that its all makeup tutorials. That was fine to me because it supplements another one of her hobbies.

>another said watching Netflix.
I am a lawyer. I spend all day dealing with serious shit, I think it's justified for me to spend a lot of my evenings doing mindless things like watching Netflix.

yeah that's kind of what I was leaning towards. My gf is in the same boat for having a Hulu account, specifically for crime documentaries but also Bob's Burgers lol.

It's fine to watch Netflix. Calling it your hobby makes it retarded.

Why? How is it better to say something like "I like to watch The Office over and over again"? I feel like you're just being nitpicky here, would you be like this if someone just said they like to play video games?

Yeah probably

Video games at least take some minimal amount of effort, and some people do it competitively. Do you watch the fucking office competitively? Is there any kind of progression to watching it over and over again?

Idk where you people live that majority of TCG and board game meetups consist primarily of NEETs and other social outcasts. I go to both types of events fairly regularly, all decent people with gfs, families etc.

I live in a major, western, first world city with millions of people of all ages, classes, ethnicities, and backgrounds are gathered and any one of them could develop an interest in tcg and tg shite but somehow it's only the losers that do.

Are you implying that the majority of people who play video games play competitively? And how are you going to justify people who sit and watch 'esports' or game streaming for hours on end as being better than "I like to watch Netflix"?

>thinks playing Magic, tabletop games, or watching anime is inherently bad
>ONLY watches anime or anime is the majority of the content he consumes
>is a serious waifufag (calling some cute girl in a show a waifu or being chill about it is fine, actually obsessively saving folders of pictures or fapping regularly to your waifu is fucking weird)
>anything furry
>loli

Thats basically it, having hobbies in general is great and fine

>>politics (especially if conservative)
>>gun freak

Fucking gross

>gun freak
What if I make the guns?

Femanon here

Anything that's linked to consumerism
Soccer unless is a casual interest
Watching as much porn to consider it a hobby
Maybe clubing

Political shitters are annoying to some degree or another, gun nuts are alright

heavy drinking/smoking weed is their only hobby
extreme political views and/or recreational outrage
extreme religious involvement and beliefs
hard drugs

Of course I'm not implying that a majority of people play competitively faggot. But there's still an aspect of fucking playing and engagement to video games and not fucking tv shows. I also said nothing about watching esports, because I also find most of that to be fucking stupid. If you want to be some lazy fuck and mindlessly watch tv, then by all means go ahead

>into Tabletop RPGs, own a 40k army
>not into /vg/ too much but assembled my own custom water loop PC, pretty proud of it
>guns/shooting is my biggest hobby
>found a girl who's into archery and thinks those are really cool hobbies and that combined with me looking good and being social makes me one hell of a dude
So far I've lost 1 potential date to mentioning guns. Most girls don't care or ask me to take them to the range.
What I'm saying is that just bee yourself and that there's a lid for every pot.

Some of my best friends are Jow Forumsommandos. Some of my worst are Jow Forumstards.

>gf big into mtg
>go in with her sometimes when she plays
>some of the guys who wind up going against her 1v1 are literally physically shaking because omg a girl
>mfw making a point of kissing her in front of them

I'll start off with the people that need to keep some things a secret:
>Weeb
>Brony
>Furry
>Otherkins
>Multi-gender believers
>Flat earthers
>Moonlanding deniers
>Tumblr artists
>SJWs
>European nationalist bigots
>Anti-piracy advocates
>Me
>You
>That one man in Japan who keeps on convincing everybody to be a loser and let the birth rates decline
>Thailand sexpats
>Dutch sexpats
>Brexit supporters
>Instagram posers
>Reddit lovers
...

Well if were going by you :
>Being judgemental
>Lacking the ability to come to decisions by yourself so that you need to ask an obscure african drum circle message board to figure out if people are worth your time or not.
>Asking about red flags is a red flag

Clubbing
Drug use
Excessive drinking often
Dip tobacco
Sports fandom that they will actually get mad about
Political activism
Protesting
Rescuing pets spontaneously
Tarot/astrology
Bachata dancing/other slutty dancing
Vaping
Cannibalism

>>playing Magic
>>playing tabletop games
>>watching anime more than occasionally

Is this just an amazing bait thread or do you have an actual reason for listing those things as red flags?

I mean anime, whatever, as long as it's not hentai moeshit or whatever it's fine.

With MtG and board games you're actually forced to leave the house and go places and meet people and make friends to enjoy those things. it's a great way to leave NEETdom and to stop being an autistic retard. like other people pointed as well

>Sports fandom that they will actually get mad about
Fuck you it was Jow Forums's year we got fucking robbed

I dont eve watch anime like I used to. I just look at all your /a/ memes and watch gintama clips on youtube. Fuck studying I wanted to play sports and have gfs. I don't even watch anime anymore and people still think Im a weeb, despite me having Japanese roots. I hate life

> anime
> car rallies
> photography (esp. car rallies or weddings)
> off-roading
> modelling
> sailing
> hunting

I wouldn't say table top games because I wouldn't expect to ever meet someone like that in the real world.

Also horse riding, obviously.

>recreational outrage

Never heard it put so succinctly; thank you

Unironically this

Where the fuck did you play. I met all my friends at the flgs. Including my ex gf. We only encountered one dude who matched the greasy nerd stereotype and he quickly gave up coming to the store since no one wanted to play him.

What's wrong with photography or sailing?

league

For men:
>considers video games, anime, comic books hobbies, rather than a recreation
>really any excessive consumption of anything that's meant to be a recreation and not a lifestyle unless it's part of your career

For women:
>activism
>modelling
>fashion

I play 40k and watch anime.
What's the problem with those?
I'm a functional human, with a well paying job, a social life, and romantic opportunities.

For women: travel (100% sign she’s had miles and mike was of cock)

Not that person but guys who are really, really into music are the most insufferable people to be around, they're just as bad as any other socially inept elitist nerd except since like you said everyone likes music that means they get to argue with literally everyone.

Are there really any hobbies that aren't cringy as fuck?
