Sometimes I think I am the only one 30+ here since a couple of years. Every week I think of leaving this board, but there is nothing similiar for 30+ people. This age gap is really difficult seeing all this 20-25yr questions about "virgin" and stuff I don't care. Show me I am wrong and there are interesting topics for me.
>be me >age 34 browsing Jow Forums 1 hr a day >be sad
I'm 33 and only been coming on Jow Forums for probably less than a year cause I've burnt out on pretty much all the other boards and only really come here for like an hour a day like you either to give genuine advice or get my shitpost on in some obvious bait thread for old time's sake.
What drove me off was really the cultural gap. To me talking to someone in their mid or late 20s is like talking to a 12 year old. That cultural of them being raised online and me being one of the last few kids on earth to have not been raised online makes it so like I'm a fucking time traveller from the 1800s.
Seeing "Childhood Threads" on r9k and on other boards was the last straw
>WATCHING YOUTUBE BACK WHEN YOUTUBE WAS GOOD >PLAYING XBOX 360 WITH YOUR BROS >EXPLORING MINECRAFT BACK WHEN MINECRAFT WAS GOOD >THAT KID WHO WAS CAUGHT WATCHING PORN ON HIS PHONE IN CLASS
It wasn't the ceaseless spam of trap threads that pretty much drove me off the site, it was threads and comments like that. Knowing that I was sharing the board with adults who were underage not even 10 years ago, or likely plenty of underage kids still right now and how they think the world without the internet is some distant memory more or less around the time of WWII.
Reddit is unironically not bad at all, just as long as you cater to your specific interests and only subscribe to boards that are about stuff you care about. If you follow like r/videos and whatever other dumb shit they have as the default boards you're obviously gonna have a bad time no matter what your political beliefs are. You get to see the worst of both sides just float up. Unless you're one of those guys who gets off on arguing politics, I used to be in my 20s but I don't give a shit about that anymore.
I feel old now that I'm going to be 30 soon. And I'm still unsure of what I want to do with my life.
Dominic Taylor
>I dont give a fuck im 27 and posting here
spoken like a true 27 year old kid
>I'M SO OLD FUCK THE RULES XD
Aaron Carter
Fuck off old man
Kevin Evans
26 here fellows
Camden Hill
Good. Go make your own 25+ thread so that 20 year olds can post in it and pretend that they're your age.
Christian Green
Get out of here you punk kids. I turned 30 last week, my joints hurt in the morning and when it rains, grandkids dont want to talk to me, doctor says I need to watch my heart, and only 5 more years til retirement.
Isaiah Bell
Nah, I think the site is aging overall in general. People don't leave and new people don't come in. Then again, I wouldn't really know because I've always most everybody everywhere is an idiot at most times. For me personally it has certainly got worse over the years. Not necessarily where I go though, but as an overall trend for the site. Age 33, been here since the beginning.
Jace Lewis
From what we saw with non-anonymous posters and users, the opposite is completely true.
Snacks left, Moot left, all of the Chanology and Lulzboat and Anonymous folks left even if it is because they got arrested or whatever and can't legally be on Jow Forums anymore or whatever.
Also just look at the culture and memes and how everything is now. You really think it's dudes in their 30s and 40s who are collecting pictures of Pepe The Cartoon Frog and coming up with "The 30 year old boomer" memes and furiously masturbating in /b/ threads like pubescent teenagers - or is it actual teenagers?
Like I said too Childhood Threads are a dead giveaway when "oldfags" talk about growing up playing Oblivion on the PS3 and whatever.
Joseph Watson
30 and Similar feelings here.
My biggest gripe is that people here are way too argumentative for no reason. I back away from posting most of the time because I don't feel like getting into a heated debate about something I said that triggered some incel who's having a bad day.
Also , 80% of advice threads are the same shit: how do I talk to some girl, how do I save my cuck relationship, etc. If you try to post anything nuanced you get no response because , like you said, majority are zoomers with no life experience.
Samuel Phillips
>My biggest gripe is that people here are way too argumentative for no reason
Well it's like that everywhere. I deleted facebook years ago and then had to unfollow like half the people I was following on twitter and also deleted a bunch of other accounts from other websites like youtube because I couldn't swing a cat without accidentally getting into some bullshit argument.
At least here when you get into an argument on Jow Forums you can just call someone a retard or whatever and then close the tab or go take a walk or whatever and then when you come back the thread is archived and done with. With any other website, you get replies to your inbox and the argument just keeps going until one of you dies. Everytime I logged into whatever and I got new mail I just felt a sense of dread and anxiety like someone decided to dig up some old shit from 6 months and just did some research to further prove their point or it's someone else who just want to chime in with their 2 cents and get shit started again.
Connor Ward
You're right, I should have qualified my post better. What I meant by "new people don't come in" was an overall statement for Jow Forums for most boards. I think board users really vary by board to board. Certainly a lot of Jow Forums is new users, to the point where it's bigger than /b/. I'm probably an outlier when it comes to Jow Forums. I've never cared about /b/, or /v/, or Jow Forums, etc and very rarely looked at them. Personally, I don't regularly come to Jow Forums either. I think overall there's two primary types of people who use Jow Forums. There's the people who use it for some specific cause and the people who use it as a lifestyle essentially. The specific cause people come and go, the others don't.
Could list others as well, such as Shii.
>Snacks Overrated cult following
>Moot Never really did much until a couple years before he left.
>Chanology, Lulzboat, Anonymous Specific cause idiocy.
>30s and 40s who are collecting pictures of Pepe The Cartoon Frog and coming up with "The 30 year old boomer" memes and furiously masturbating in /b/ threads like pubescent teenagers - or is it actual teenagers? I don't think this is age bound. It's probably on an individual basis.
>Childhood Threads are a dead giveaway when "oldfags" talk about growing up playing Oblivion on the PS3 and whatever. Is the problem because you can't relate and you feel excluded and that bothers you? It shouldn't. The poster should be irrelevant. Everything ought to on the merit of the post itself.
>My biggest gripe is that people here are way too argumentative for no reason Personally, I love arguing. I think it's better than circlejerks anyway.
>heated debate Then don't. Respond to what you want to respond to and don't to what you don't want to.
>If you try to post anything nuanced you get no response because That's usually the case. If you want more nuanced, you'll probably have to be somewhere where it's more slow paced and with a different culture.
Gavin Hernandez
character limit reached, continuing It's also about a matter of pay-off, I don't know if you'll ever read this let alone reply, so why bother with anything nuanced? Also, may be posting in various threads.
I've never used facebook or other social media myself really. Jow Forums is the closest I've come to such. I agree with you.
Dominic Ward
>Is the problem because you can't relate and you feel excluded and that bothers you? It shouldn't. The poster should be irrelevant. Everything ought to on the merit of the post itself.
No it's the fact that you were saying "new people don't come in" which is obviously not true at all.
Leo Howard
...
Ian Fisher
What do you define as a "new person"?
Nathan Peterson
I'm turning 29 in less than a week and I've been browsing Jow Forums since around 2005. I don't see why I'd stop next year.
Sometimes I wonder if live would be different without its shitty influence.
Thomas Torres
Being easily influenced is your own problem. If it not Jow Forums, than something else.
Joshua Gutierrez
Where in that wall of text am I supposed to see anything that proves that Jow Forums hasn't been receiving new posters over the years and decade and a half?
I joined in 2007 and consider myself a newfag or "new person" so I guess it's all relative
I'm 30 and this site just reminds me of all of my failures. All these young people accomplishing things I will never be able to accomplish. Shit sucks.
Ayden Davis
>Being easily influenced is your own problem.
Not him, but not when you're a fucking kid it's not your own problem.
I was like 21 when I first joined Jow Forums and it for sure fucked me up good, I can't imagine what it's like for someone still going through their formative years.
James Phillips
>All these young people accomplishing things >on Jow Forums
where
Cooper Morgan
Yeah, I was a kid and porn on the internet was still a novel concept in my early teens. It must have had an effect on my personality.
Adam Powell
you are not alone, bro! this would be a wonderful place if everyone would be 30+
Cameron Anderson
There are plenty of losers but also plenty of people claiming to make like 1.5 to 3 times my salary and they're 10 years younger than me. They've already got girlfriends, they've got successful careers, they've got lots of money...oh well. I tried to do well in life but the more I hang out here the more I realize that I did not, in fact, do very well at all.
John Green
>plenty of people claiming to make like 1.5 to 3 times my salary and they're 10 years younger than me. They've already got girlfriends, they've got successful careers, they've got lots of money
and yet they still post frogs on Jow Forums?
Look at that word you used
>claiming
it's exactly just that, claims of being totally cool and rich and swimming pussy and whatever else people lie about to roleplay as what they wish they were.
Hell I've had a decent life so far but I still feel the need to spice it up with lies when talking about it on Jow Forums.
Charles Ross
I said that you're right. I wasn't specific in what I meant because I assumed it wouldn't really matter. Specifically what I meant, aside from what I already typed was that I don't think the new posters are as young as they used to be and there's an overall aging. I don't think 12 year olds and 14 years olds, the "new people" are coming to Jow Forums as much as they were. I think the "new people" are mostly for specific causes. I don't think there are many new "lifestyle" people overall.
That's your own problem. If you think the internet should have strictly enforced age ratings for websites, then that's your opinion. If you don't believe children/teenagers should have any responsibility or consequences for their actions, that's also your opinion.
Not really. Age doesn't necessarily make for better posters.
>believing what you read on Jow Forums and forming your worldview around it RIP
William Myers
Do you think porn magazines/videos would have had a different effect?
Andrew Cooper
Yeah, I wouldn't have read porn mags and porn videos were really shitty back in the day.
Brayden Moore
So you believe that the easy availability of porn via the internet ruined you? Do you also believe in nofap?
Aaron Price
No and no, I just mean sitting spending hours and hours on Jow Forums was probably a waste of time. Who knows what I would have done instead, but the rest of the internet wasn't that interesting.
William Edwards
>Who knows what I would have done instead Probably something else entertainment related. Certainly not "bettering" yourself.
Brody Barnes
Not him, but back in the a day a kid couldn't just get porn magazines or videos. You had to be 18+ and wear a fake mustache and a hat with sunglasses to go out and bravely buy whatever you were into.
If you did have access to whatever, it was all extremely vanilla softcore erotic films or Girls Gone Wild infomercials or some older kids' uncles playboy collection.
These days kids log onto the front page of whatever porn site and are immediately greeted with gay shitting assholes or make-believe incest or whatever fetish is the latest trend.
Jeremiah Martinez
Literally me
Wyatt Ward
That's why they looked at and shared what the parents or friends had.
Are you aware that cp was legal in the US up until late 20th century in the US and was sold in stores?
>In the United States, the first federal law to ban the for-profit production and distribution of child pornography was the Protection of Children Against Sexual Exploitation Act of 1977.
>make-believe incest or whatever fetish is the latest trend. Taboo is a pornographic movie series of the 1980s and 1990s, which eroticizes father-daughter & mother-son incest. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taboo_(film_series)
Not anything new. The biggest change is access. Sure, a lot of niche stuff has proliferated due to easy access to others of similar interest, even if they are small in number.
Gabriel Cooper
34 here. You're not alone, user.
I hang around because there is still a golden thread every now and and then.
The guy that told his oneitis he was jerked off by his mom was pretty funny.
Juan Barnes
>The biggest change is access.
That's entirely my point.
Aaron Myers
If you're only using one board, you're doing it wrong.
Anthony Taylor
Access doesn't mean interest though. Most people are still going to only go for the extremely vanilla .
Aaron Hill
>Most people are still going to only go for the extremely vanilla .
Nope. If you go to any porn site and look at the top-viewed and top-rated vids there's loads of weird shit on there.
and like I was trying to originally tell you until you brought up a bunch of nonsense - the whole point is that pornography is so readily accessible now that kids will accidentally find it while googling something else or having a typo into their web address. It's not like the 1990s we would accidentally find a bunch of porn while going through the library's index cards or trying to fine-tune the radio stations.
Isaiah Ortiz
Sure. Weird is subjective, relative, and personal.
It's up to the parents to put filters up if they believe that is an issue. There was a push to have all porn on .xxx for easy blocking/filtering, but that didn't go anywhere. Various countries are certainly moving that way though.
Personally, I started looking at porn when I was 12, so around 1998.
How much of a problem do you believe easy access to porn is?
>How much of a problem do you believe easy access to porn is?
Enough of a problem that it created a generation of incels and people who meme about "it's not gay if she has a penis" and other shit
Joshua Scott
In contrast to that, Jow Forums wasn't around until I was already 18.
Evan Howard
The incels have always been around, they're just a niche group that gained a label and could meet up because of the internet. I don't think porn is particularly relevant.
>it's not gay if she has a penis This isn't anything new at all. Modern sexuality is entirely different than ancient sexuality. The ideal of "homosexuality", and "gender" for that matter is relatively new.
Why does it matter if it's gay or not? The most confusing thing to me has been influx of social conservatives to Jow Forums over the years. It's awful. Jow Forums is the worst thing to ever happen to Jow Forums.
John Parker
Were you looking at overwatch incest back in 1998?
Gabriel Sullivan
>The incels have always been around
No.
Grayson Walker
No, but I personally was looking at hentai, so it's basically the same. It's interesting to me how it's become more mainstream over the years. I've had a preference overall for fiction from the beginning. Actual women are fine as well though.
Gavin Moore
>twenty thr...--thirty three here,
How do you do fellow old timers?
Trying a new wrinkle cream for my crows feet, pulled my back last week and have to go to the doctor Friday.
You were looking at hentai before Anime had even reached the bare minimum of popularity in the west? Congrats man.
Lucas Roberts
32, hi man
Bentley Harris
32 also. hi friend
Anthony Turner
I got a temp captcha ban from Google. Disappointing.
You don't believe people who have been involuntarily celibate have always been around?
The first anime, I didn't know it was anime at the time, was Dragon Warrior which aired in the US in 1990. A lot of "US" "cartoons" back then that I liked were made by Japanese companies as well because Japanese were much cheaper than US animators, same way Japan outsourced animation to South Korea and other Asian countries. I don't really know what you'd consider a "bare minimum" is though. Around the same time I was reading a lot of erotica as well though. As I said, an outlier.
Logan Green
Oops, used the same post for both.
Leo Myers
do you just love arguing about everything all the time especially when you're wrong about all those things?
The first animes to come to the states were Astro Boy and Speed Racer in the mid 60s. That doesn't mean that Speed Racer hentai was all the rage in Playboy or Hustler magazine.
Same with shit like Furries and Bronies and whatever else. People wanting to fuck their cartoons is something that is exclusively a modern problem that came from the internet, certainly at the level that it is now. I don't doubt that people in the 1970s wanted to fuck Betty and Veronica from Archie Comics but shit out of control these days and isn't even about cartoon humans anymore.
Where in the hell were you even getting hentai from in the 1990s unless you lived in Japan? You certainly weren't downloading page after page on a DSL connection.
>You don't believe people who have been involuntarily celibate have always been around?
The term and label of incel or even "involuntarily celibate" is brand new, the sense of identity of an incel is brand new, the community is brand new, everything about it is new and a product of the internet.
Back then, going thousands of years, people just called themselves single like regular people would and didn't spend nowhere near as much time shifting the blame on external factors and the rest of society and their genes and universe itself as to why they couldn't get a date like how incels do.
Julian Ramirez
I'm 33, I feel like you too bro.
Leo Young
>do you just love arguing about everything all the time especially when you're wrong about all those things?
Yes.
>problem Sorry, I don't believe in "degeneracy".
>Where in the hell were you even getting hentai from in the 1990s unless you lived in Japan? You certainly weren't downloading page after page on a DSL connection. Turns out I was. I was at e-hentai from the beginning when it was evahentai and also a yahoo group. Also other sites, such as sakura lemon archive.
>didn't spend nowhere near as much time shifting the blame on external factors and the rest of society Surely you must be joking. People have never wanted to take responsibility for their own actions or shortcomings.
John Hughes
and now I missed entirely.
Carson Collins
It was dial-up as well, not DSL. I didn't have DSL until mid 2000s where I live.
Noah Sullivan
>People have never wanted to take responsibility for their own actions or shortcomings. Not him but the internet collecting and gathering people together amplifying insane views is a pretty new phenomenon.
Jayden Bailey
I’m 25 and might go back to uni towards architecture. Any advice or opinions, op?
Colton Hughes
I think it's pretty depressing that most of the problems of those idiot kids are problems that will either solve themselves in time and/or with a little effort and humility.
Austin Gutierrez
Yes, it is. I said as much. >Sure, a lot of niche stuff has proliferated due to easy access to others of similar interest, even if they are small in number.
That doesn't mean that it didn't exist prior to that though.
Can find basically any combination of anything now. People have very quickly become very adept at creating their own echo chambers.
Henry Fisher
Have you solved your problems?
Anthony Reyes
I'm 31, started browing in 2007, don't plan on stoping until either Jow Forums or I die.
This place is actually fun.
Ian Cox
as I get older I've found I really start to understand a lot of the "crazy" religious streams of thought. Not that they aren't crazy, but that I understand what might make someone believe in Calvanism (or similar movements for religions other than christianity) or why religion in general is so appealing. Life is hell, metaphorically speaking, and even when I do things "right" I just get older and things get worse anyway. I'm tired of being alone and in pain. Salvation is an intoxicating fantasy, and when I've got no one else, it is easy to imagine the divine, although I am not yet to that point.
Adam Clark
33 here.
I'm doing okay. My desire for death is stronger tho.
But the mental battle between wanting to die and wanting to live is what makes life fun?
Samuel Robinson
Hey retard, you're not alone. I'm 30 and keep browsing adv from time to time to listen to people's problems and help them feel better if I can or provide good advice if I happen to relate to said problems. I secretly like Jow Forums more than the other boards because of the lesser toxicity.
39 here. Been here for a long, long time. I just do /fit, /pol and /adv these days. Fit and pol for laughs and not sure why I come to adv. Occasionally I feel like I give some good advice, I guess.
Jackson Edwards
Religious thought is literally a brain process. It can be turned on and off with magnets.
give some advice for a 38 yr bro then I feel I'm not moving forward, should I move forward? I'm ok where/how I am, just the judgement from people around me that annoys me
Nolan Jackson
The 2016 election permanently destroyed an already shit board. All these “national socialists” are underage retards who have joined discord cults where Billy Joel is banned from being posted because of degeneracy/Jewishness. Not even trying to be funny, they have lists of crap you can’t listen to if you want to be part of their cult. If you disagree with Hitler on anything you get banned. It’s disgusting
Ethan Nguyen
Stop with this ridiculousl idea that the environment can by itself mold someone into something they don’t have control over or any change. I was here when I was a a young teen, right now my life is fine. I have a job, a dog, and a place I live in with my girl. I come here because I always have, not because of any hole I’m trying to fill.
Jack Lopez
You think it was porn that did that and not the increasing push for gay marriage and then transgender acceptance? These things began way before kids were beating it to traps Any kid severely fucked up mentally by porn would have been severely fucked up by something else - life doesn’t remain a nice protected childhood
Landon Moore
Ancient erotic cave paintings and rock dildos existed. Roman art is filled with people fucking goats.
Sexuality and degeneracy have always been around, they’ve always found a way to get their rocks off with SOMETHING around them. The modern era didn’t create these people. The only thing that’s changed is the outlet.
Instead of raping animals or small children or fucking branches now those types beat it to traps and hentai.
Hudson Adams
Hahahahaha Gramps what's wrong with you? Hahahaha leave now old man, you're the reason this board is so cringy
Aiden Cooper
Not sure what “moving forward” means. I’ve pretty much defied growing up. I have the wife, house, kids, etc. but I’ve never had a real job. I work from home and still do all the same stuff I did when I was younger. I do get a lot of judgement though. Fuck ‘em
Michael Sanders
Jow Forums was never meant for authoritarians. It's a sad state of being now.
Zachary Baker
>I think I am the only one That's where you went entirely wrong. Enjoy your solipsism.
Tyler Diaz
I want an a sub culture of Jow Forums to be just for oldfags like me. I'm tired of wading in the kiddie pool side of this toilet.
Nope, it's too late for me at 29. I know you're trying to be smug but these new generations of idiots have so many things at their fingertips.
Jaxon Martinez
Same as the previous generation would say of you.
Easton Ramirez
Yeah, but it's true this time, groups for every niche and fandom, youtube instructionals on almost every conceivable thing, true intern-connectivity on a global scale etc
FUCKING being a geek no longer the huge hindrance it was.
Michael Martinez
I'm sure the previous generation would say the same of you, again.
Camden Cox
>groups for every niche and fandom, youtube instructionals on almost every conceivable thing, true intern-connectivity on a global scale etc
Why are you talking like you're a time-traveller from the 1950s that doesn't have access to those things.
You've got everything that they have online, the internet's open to everyone - unless you live in China or North Korea or something.
Dominic Evans
Jow Forums has always been Jow Forums.
That's why it was and still is the butt of Jow Forums. Never forget that.
Dominic Flores
Now you're just taking the piss. I didn't get the internet until 2001 and it was dial up. I didn't get broadband until 2004-5. Youtube wasn't a thing in 2001 and when it did arrive in 2005 it didn't become what it is today until some time later. Internet forums and such were still the haunts of losers (I did make the huge mistake of not going full autist when I had the chance). Geeks were still somewhat of an outsider.
While I may have access to that shit now, I'm 29, my social and professional development are that of a retarded teenager. I will be given less of a chance than a fresh-faced teen or early 20-something in professional or social situations.
Leo Hughes
>I think it's pretty depressing that most of the problems of those idiot kids are problems that will either solve themselves in time and/or with a little effort and humility.
So your problems are irreversible, but younger people's problems is just dumb shit that can be solved with two seconds of googling?
>rest of your post
It still gave outsider kids and teens and even adults comfort in knowing that they weren't the only juggalo anime goth or whatever, even if they were the only juggalo anime goth kid in their school or town or whatever. Which is more than outsider kids could say in the early-mid 90s and decades before that.
Brayden Brown
There was a time when Jow Forums didnt even exist, young'un. I'd forgive you for not realizing that since it was only created a year or two after reddit.
Isaiah Hall
>but younger people's problems is just dumb shit that can be solved with two seconds of googling? Why are you actively wanting to be a failure? Why are you intentionally boiling my point down into nonsense?
When you are young people will give you benefit of the doubt, they are more willing to take you on, you are able to make mistakes that you can recover from etc.
Why waste your time arguing with people on the internet when you CAN in essence improve your life by googling?
>Jow Forums has always been Jow Forums. >That's why it was and still is the butt of Jow Forums. Never forget that.
How long have you been alive, let alone been on Jow Forums?
Joseph Reyes
I'm 29 and it scares me to think about the future. I still don't have a job or a direction in life. I'm gonna have to compete with people 10 years younger that accomplished more than me. If that isn't a big red flag I don't know what isn't.
Cameron Wood
>Why waste your time arguing with people on the internet Yeah, so why are you doing so?
Camden Wright
Not only that, but since it's a global economy now, depending on the job, you'd have to compete with everyone all over the world who will be willing to be paid a tiny fraction of what you'd find acceptable.
Zachary Garcia
>Why are you actively wanting to be a failure?
wat
>Why are you intentionally boiling my point down into nonsense?
I didn't, your exact words were "most of the problems of those idiot kids are problems that will either solve themselves in time and/or with a little effort and humility." while also talking about "youtube instructionals on almost every conceivable thing". Was that not your point?
>When you are young people will give you benefit of the doubt, they are more willing to take you on, you are able to make mistakes that you can recover from etc.
You're 29, not 92.
There's loads of kids out there who have that same attitude as you "oh I'm 25 my youth is gone I can't fix myself" "oh I'm 20 my youth is gone I can't fix myself" "oh I'm 18 my youth is gone I can't fix myself"
As someone who went to night school and adult education programs, you're also gonna compete with struggling 50 year olds who are in way over their head.
Alexander Lewis
>There's loads of kids out there who have that same attitude as you "oh I'm 25 my youth is gone I can't fix myself" "oh I'm 20 my youth is gone I can't fix myself" "oh I'm 18 my youth is gone I can't fix myself"
At what point do you think things aren't reversible? Cos there's a reason most of "old" anons threads start at either 25 or 30.
Robert Johnson
31 here, my body is starting to fall apart, what the heck
Jason Wright
>At what point do you think things aren't reversible?
When you stop trying.
>Cos there's a reason most of "old" anons threads start at either 25 or 30.
It's really only because this website is aimed towards teens and those teens from 10+ years ago that are still posting here are now in their late 20s or in their 30s. There aren't a whole lot of 40 or 50 year ods posting cause they don't care about pepe the frog and didn't care about about Rage Face comics 10 years ago. Unless they have some sort of disability.
I know someone who just got into Jow Forums and he's like 36 years old.
Landon Diaz
Are you working on your push ups and jumping jacks?
