If a character that was meant to be the butt of jokes and a stubborn anti-progressive is looked upon now as a character with great wisdom. And virtually everything he was supposed to be duped on evolved into a mess much worse than anyone could have imagined.

He wasn't supposed to be that one-dimensional. Any time he was prejudice you weren't supposed to relate to him, but he was made to be reasonable too so he's not unlikable by everyone. Michael was written the same way. Even though you may hate his liberal point of view, he never got to the point of complete unlikable insanity that you see from the left today.

I saw one episode where Archie refered to a fag as a "fruit". I thought of the chaos that would ensue if a modern show did that. Christ it would be funny. I can't believe they show reruns of the old show on tv. You'd think there would be more outrage over it.
