I remember as a kid that measles was nothing to laugh at. It was chicken pox that was seen as ok, since the body developed an immunity and survived most of the time. But measles was a common disease that you got the immunisation from, because fuck getting that shit.
Honestly, I don’t blame the anti-vaxers for the return of measles. If anything they were the first victims of its return. I lay blame at illegal immigrants who lived in areas where measles was common. Hell, in Afghanistan, you wouldn’t believe how often tuberculosis tests came back positive on the locals. That stuff was everywhere!
Something tells me that episode of the Brady bunch was more irresponsible writing than anything else.
Not to say that I trust vaccines 100% I think that there are way too many of them. But the simple classical vaccines should be enough, why we have so many today in a country that has eradicated so many illnesses through vaccination puzzles me.

That's exactly the thing. Archie was made to be laughed at and mocked, but the public liked him more than any other character and is why the show was popular. The show was meant to make the audience walk away with progressive values but the public did the opposite and identified with Archie more than the other characters. And no, I didn’t wear helmets growing up. But it was also back in the day when kids used to go to the er all the time because they’d play ninja turtles with actual knives and other dumb shit. Heck, mr. Rodgers wrote a whole episode to kids about discerning reality from fiction on television.
Awareness brings caution. When the public saw rampant kidnappings across the country, they stopped letting kids out of their site. Part of this was also due to the shift away from agrarian society and thus having less kids. In my grandparent’s days people had five + kids. My grandparents even managed to go through a tragedy of losing a child when today we try so much harder to avoid that. (A toddler drowned in a wash tub)
That’s why I lean on the writing being irresponsible. But I know measles is survivable, but at the same time you don’t want it becoming an outbreak.

I come home from work in the morning and sometimes catch an episode on Sundance. Shit was before my time, so every episode is new to me. I really ponder what yesterday’s old people thought, and this show gives a glimpse into that. What I also like is how absolute shit that house is. They didn’t bullshit and promote consumerism and outlandish exploits that in the real world are financially impossible. The terrible condition of the house shows this. The whole thing is great, because it feels authentic. Remember, when I watch the show, every episode is new. Also, I see the perspective of what meathead did to the world when he had control of it. And crazy thing is, archie’s Criticism strikes with better ferocity. Even when the idea was to make Archie the dummy, his simple answers are no more than a simple dismissal of the boomer’s rebellion. Knowing what has come, makes me understand that sometimes clarity doesn’t happen until after a generation has died off. This explains why hitler said his spirit would rise from the grave. The subverted generation can never admit fault. Watching All in the Family today, and I can see the error of my parent’s ways.
