My state is currently debating and most likely going to legalize recreational marijuana in the coming months.
I'm all for medical marijuana for boomers and patients that are dealing with serious medical issues ( excluding anxiety and depression. I don't see how weed will help with that because anxiety and depression is a public, everyday occurrence thing. You can't smoke a blunt at work because you have anxiety )
Although recreationally I draw the line, I just find it pretty gross and dehumanizing. Most of the arguments for this is saying marijuana will create more revenue ( selling drugs for money, yay morals ) and less arrest for weed charges. But that isn't SOLVING the prison problem, you're just changing the stupid laws! That's like me legalizing all black crimes because black people are a problem in the prison system!
The ONLY valid argument I find for recreational marijuana is when people start bringing up the "well tobacco and alcohol is just as bad." Yeah sure, got me.
What do you guys think?
Should weed be legalised?
What’s your state?
Dumb burgers think you live in a free country but get sent to prison for smoking a plant
Yea. It's a plant and this is a "free" country so I believe people should be able to do as they please with their bodies.
Jersey
Then when does it stop? If it's a free country then why can't heroin addicts keep shooting up. Why can't women abort their pregnancies 6 months in?
All you have to do is move upstate to Washington or somewhere, however in the UK it is more essential for the (((country))) to legalise it.
>Should weed be legalised?
Yes.
>I just find it pretty gross and dehumanizing.
Why?
>Most of the arguments for this is saying marijuana will create more revenue ( selling drugs for money, yay morals )
We already sell drugs to create revenue.
>But that isn't SOLVING the prison problem
Removing non-violent offenders from our prisons is a good first step.
Because it's not their body. I think all drugs should be legal honestly I don't care about heroin addicts.
No paying the government to smoke a plant is gayer than aids, they literally just need to stop arresting people for it. Canada legalized weed and now they pay like $20/gram for weed sprayed with chemicals and the government has weed breathalyzers/check points and can enter your home w/o warrant if they think you have been smoking. Also they elected a homosexual Cuban Drama Teacher to accomplish this for some reason
The law is the law, if holding a certain amount of any drug causes someone to go to prison then let it happen.
We should fix the root of the problem. Not just legalizing the problem.
But it has to be taxed and such like every other product.
>If it's a free country then why can't heroin addicts keep shooting up.
Ultimately, they should be allowed to shoot up. If they commit crimes while high on heroin, then they should be punished for those crimes.
>Why can't women abort their pregnancies 6 months in?
Because it isnt their body thats being destroyed. If a woman wants to cut off her tits and get tattoos to look like a lizard, then its her body at stake.
Disagree with both. Laws have been created by humans for millieniums to halt societal degeneration. I think we are experiencing societal degeneration right now because of the lack of strengthening our laws and falling into public pressure.
And then the cost of policing goes through the roof because you have more degenerate addicts around and the economy starts to faulter because productivity nose dives. The role of government is to serve the best interests of its people, legalising drugs wouldn't do that.
Absolute freedom is the ideal goal but there are far too many mouth breathing retards around for some people to enjoy that. People worthy of those rights won't be doing drugs anyway so will be unaffected but enjoy safer neighbourhoods and lower taxes, things we all want.
Legalized by state? Sure, I'm a fan of states rights.
Sweeping national legalization, not so much.
I will concede the "it's not that bad" and "bruh, alcohol is worse" arguments to point out this particular product requires a lot of land and agricultural time it's producers are tying up profits for much more complicated crops. As long as they can make their means with a "harmless" crop, I'm ok with the shotty enforcement that accompanies it.
Alternatively, a mass "we can't stop the cocaine" epidemic will green light carpet bombing spics.
>The law is the law
And laws can be changed or even repealed.
> if holding a certain amount of any drug causes someone to go to prison then let it happen.
Why? Why should tax dollars be wasted on imprisoning non-violent offenders?
>We should fix the root of the problem
Correct, and throwing college kids who get caught with an 8th of OG Kush into the same place as rapists, arsonists, and murderers fixes "the root of the problem" how?
True, thank God the federal government didn't sink their teeth in the marijuana debate yet.
Legalizing the drug is also not fixing the problem. I'm not quite sure yet how the problem can be fixed. Apparently the fear of being arrested and imprisoned does not scare people anymore.
I think laws should protect people from others and businesses and the government but not from themselves. It's not laws that keep this country going it's the people.
Making plants illegal is a retarded concept.
I live close to the border with Bolivia. I am not allowed to grow coca plants and it is illegal to bring in coca leaves but every time I enter the border, they don't say anything.
I love coca tea, I should not have to drive a few hours every month to get myself a large box.
> thank God the federal government didn't sink their teeth in the marijuana debate yet.
I'm willing to bet Trump is saving that for when the 2020 election gets into full swing.
>Legalizing the drug is also not fixing the problem.
Not by itself certainly, and anybody who tells you that legalization is this magic cure to fix all of our problems is a fool. However, removing nonviolent offenders from prison will help give some relief to our overcrowded prisons. Prison is for people who are a dangerous and mean to do harm to others, not people who smoke a plant that makes Pink Floyd not shit and pizza rolls taste good.
>BUT user IF WE LEGALIZE THEN WE CANT ARREST ALL THE NIGGERS
Of course we can, its not like the only crime they commit is possession.
MY BODY
MY DRUG
Coming from a legalized state, be prepared for:
>Not actually have it legalized for another 1-2 years
>No shops for another 2-3 years
>Can't smoke it outside
>Still get barred from like 75% of jobs because they will still drugtest you for it
>Legal weed is expensive AF for like 3-4 years
>Most payment processors/banks won't deal with it because it is still federally illegal, so slow-ass growth
Thank God. I have a couple years left before I pack my bags and leave
I voted for it when I voted for Trump and so far we only have 2 shops. They don't have a very wide variety, they are expensive AF, and you have to call ahead or some shit to even visit.
Most towns, probably at least 80%, passed laws barring recreational shops in their boundaries despite it being legalized. In fact several towns with medicinal shops have barred recreational shops, kind of dumb imo
Hell no.
>legalised
>s
How about you go back to whatever Yuropoor country you came from?
Not fucking really, when it literally grows on trees. I actually remember getting bailed out of jail for public intox once and the kid next to me was in for “manufacture of narcotics” for growing 3 weed plants in his backyard
Nope, I'm pretty sure Trump is purely against the legalization of weed. Atleast that's what I believe most of his core followers are for.
Also I don't really care about the black people who are overcrowding the prisons because of drug charges. I support the law because I firmly believe marketing marijuana as a recreational activity for anyone ( over the age of 18, like that's a barrier. My sister bought cigarettes over the counter at 15 :/ ) is a recipe for disaster. Just like how cigarettes in the 30s and 40s were seen as basically harmless and consumer friendly, I can see the same thing happening with marijuana. Pure speculation, I just have lots of hatred for anykind of drug
Well yes so buy and own your own tree but to buy from another person or a business it would have to be taxed
Legalized? Legalised? My phone just autocorrects it with s. Sorry
I mean your just calling for government control bootlicking and I can't agree with that.
You're a fagget.
Also it's 21, not 18.
>Nope, I'm pretty sure Trump is purely against the legalization of weed.
Hes waffled on the issue over the years, but I think he would be willing to pay lip service to it in an election if takes some wind out of the democrats sails. As a private citizen, he fully supported legalization and using the tax revenue to finance rehab centers and has mentioned that he supports medical marijuana in the last couple years. He also hasnt gone after the states that have legalized in any meaningful matter which shows that while he's at least indifferent to it politically.
>I support the law because I firmly believe marketing marijuana as a recreational activity for anyone is a recipe for disaster
I'll fully agree with the fact that the 420BLAZEITFATDABZBRAH culture that currently surrounds weed is cancerous and degenerate. I view those people with the same level of disdain that I do alcoholics. I think legalizing would help to "mature" the recreational culture from DUDEWEEDFATDABZ to people who just want to smoke a joint to relax at the end of a long day.
>I just have lots of hatred for anykind of drug
Do you feel this hatred for people who drink alcohol or smoke cigarettes? What about people who drink coffee or take preworkout before going to the gym? Where exactly does this hatred come from?
How?
I thought the legal age to buy marijuana was the same as cigarettes. Jeez
What kind of bootlicking faggot are you?
>You can't smoke a blunt at work because you have anxiety
Watch me cunt!
I smoke and I say no it’s no good
We get it youre an edgy Australian
Nah, at least in my state, they handle it pretty much like alcohol.
AKA 21 and carded to buy, can't drive after smoking it and you probably can't have the weed equivalent to an "open container"
Also no public smoking, much like no public drinking
I really don't know where the hatred comes from. Maybe I have a bias for marijuana because of my childhood. Maybe like you said the 420BLAZEIT culture just annoys the living daylights out of me.
Let's just say ANYONE who tells me they smoke weed occasionally, I'll automatically lose interest on keeping the friendship going or try to slowly purseude them to give up on it.
I don't have any hatred for people who smoke cigarettes. Those who are the stereotypical beer belly, unemployed alcoholic I do despise. Although unlike marijuana which one smoke can make me furious, I'm alright with people drinking to get a buzz. Their is a stigma that follows marijuana unlike alcohol.
That's fine. But then never, ever bring up anything related to personal freedom. Ever. Anything could be argued in a way that touches on the "for and against of societal degeneration", and if we value it more than personal freedom, then just don't bother anymore.
