We need to show you why a lot of Flemish want independence from Belgium(Wallonia).
I've translated parts of a separatist pamphlet('Waarom? - Claudius Severus') from 1918 which was signed by many academics.
"In total, almost 12 billion gold francs were collected by the government in the period 1832-1912. Flanders raised 44% and Wallonia 30.4%."
"The province of Namur(W) with its 360,000 inhabitants received 566 kilometers of iron roads. The province of Antwerp(F) with 1,000,000 souls, 321 kilometers. Namur had 1,216 kilometers of paved roads through the Belgian State, Luxembourg(W) 1,175 and Liege(W) 1,127, East Flanders(V) 763 and Antwerp 679 ".
"The Aalst(V) district has 100,000 inhabitants more than the Dinant district, but still 15 postal receivers less. And so it is throughout the country. West Flanders(V) with its 900,000 inhabitants has 15 postal offices less than the province of Namur(W, 360.000inhab.).
For the construction of workers' houses, 4,500,000 Flemish people received 16,800,000 francs and 3,000,000 Walloons 113,000,000 francs.
Advances were granted for the construction of workers' houses: 2,391,031 francs for Ghent and 21,290,947 francs for Charleroi ". "In the form of agricultural loans, the Walloon Genappe received 10,926,000 francs, Gembloux 3,257,000 francs, Ghent and Bruges, 183,000 and 40,700 francs. There is no talk of Antwerp or Limburg: "they can only help themselves if they want the country farmed". "In 1910, the Walloon part of the country had 580 municipalities that had a water supply. The Flemish provinces had only 20 in their entirety. And so the Belgian State lets the manna flow over our Walloon flanks. For the execution of health works, such as construction or enlargement of cemeteries, drainage of water, sewers, manure pits, etc. The State provided aid in 1910, 1911, 1912, to Antwerp(V) 162,764 francs, to East Flanders(V) 42,265 francs, to Namur(W) 637,014 francs and to Liège(W) 855,590 francs ".
