Clip vs Magazine

I've heard people use "mag," "clip," "magazine," to refer to the thing that holds ammunition in a gun. Are the terms interchangable?

Its a mag. A clip just holds the ammo for quick loading

good thread, op. Definitely needed an entire thread for this question. It couldn't possibly have gone in the
>Question That Don't Deserve Their Own Thread thread

S-s-story?

Guy has shitty laser on his gun, sweeps his hand to check if laser is working, shoots himself in the hand like a retard.

I'm going to guess
>guy has laser
>not seeing laser down range
>checks to see if it's on using something up close
>fucking stupidly uses his hand
>NDs

>Are the terms interchangeable
no
but its like battery vs cell
a small difference few people care about

Technically, no. But it's like soda and pop.

They're completely different. What you posted is a clip, >pic related is a magazine.

The terms are often used interchangeably, but do not mean precisely the same thing. In reality, the distinction is this:

A magazine is a device which stores ammunition and presents it into a "ready to feed" position without the aid of any external device.

A clip (AKA stripper clip, or charger, if you prefer the British terminology) is a type of device which retains ammunition for feeding into a magazine (including the enbloc type which acts as a partial magazine body and feed lips, but does not contain a spring within itself to present rounds for feeding)

There is a common saying which (erroneously) asserts: "if it has a spring it's a magazine, if not it's a clip." The error here is not only that this saying includes the majority of objects within the "clip" category even though they're unrelated to firearms, but on a more serious note because traditional clips also use spring characteristics of metal to keep rounds from falling out, and some (such as the mauser type of clip) have a dedicated spring built into the assembly of the clip for the aforementioned purpose.

In the future, try to post "small" questions like this which can be answered in a single post and which do not benefit from a larger discussion into the QTDDTOT (questions that don't deserve their own thread) thread, or create one if there isn't one active in the catalog.

Also, when I say "ready to feed" let me clarify that I mean "will be cycled into the chamber after one complete cycle of the action"

o-okay user s-s-sorry

>A clip just holds the ammo for quick loading

So just like a magazine?

A magazine houses ammo
A "clip", like its name suggests, just clips onto the back of the cartridge

So ammo doesn't clip into a magazine? How does it stay in?

The top of the magazine is too thin for a cartridge to just pop out of the top, the way the spring is pushing it. It must be shoved forward to release.

The gun feeds directly from the magazine when operating, while a clip is used to load rounds into the magazine.

>Are the terms interchangable?
To uneducated people speaking to other uneducated people, sure.
But if you actually do know the difference, then it'd be stupid to use them interchangeably. You'll do everyone a favor by helping them learn the difference too by just using the correct terminology in conversation. No need to be a dick and correct people, just use the terms correctly yourself and others will follow suite.

No, you're asking the wrong question.

> are" bullet" , "caliber", and "cartridge" all interchangeable

> pro-tip : They are not.

I know you're just pretending to be thick, but "loading" and "feeding" are not the same thing. A magazine feeds the action. A clip loads a magazine or cylinder.

Are clips worth it?

IVe got a brilliant idea, how about we get pro gun groups to start campaigning to ban high capacity clips (clips with more than 10 rounds), liberals finally think that they’re getting their inch, then the law gets signed in and they feel fucking retarded because nobody makes clips with more than 10 rounds anyways (and mags are untouched)

How about no, fuck off and die

>let's give them an fake inch for lolz epic trolled xddddd
Shut the fuck up you are 12 with fake dick 12 inches up your ass

>fuck the liberals with clip ban
>letting them ban more shit with vague wording EVER
>this is a genius idea
Haha epic trollin gottem amrite? Stupid libtards can't into words! LOL SAD!
