It depends on which AR it is. Retrokits like Adams Arms shit the bed relatively quickly. HK 556 and proprietary piston ARs are generally okay.

Yes it has an intentionally steep grip angle. Consider the ergo grip if you want comfort.

I like exposed barrels and the shorter handguard to save some weight up front if possible. I'd go 11" or 12". But that's just personal preference. Some people like the 13.2" more, but unless you're going to utilize that length it's not worth it in my opinion.
I like the A2 and MIAD the best. I really liked the BCM grip at first, but I mine didn't last too long before the floorplate broke.
