No, it's amazing to me that with the dot by the rear sight, I could barely get two rounds off. This is the second day I've gone and shot 100+ rounds without a single failure.

That is the polychoke, but don't feel dumb. They make a bunch of different models, I chose the one with integrated flash hider. I spent most of the day with it set to modified, went to improved mod once. The polychoke is actually pretty heavy, i'd guess almost a pound, so I might grab a standalone modified or improved choke. I think modified is the standard for shooting clays, but since the barrel is only 19" I think improved might be better for the vepr. I need to shoot both more.

Are you sure that RPK pouch is Romy? I got a bunch of those with the shoulder straps from SG some time ago and they were sold as Yugo. What's the depth on your pouch? Some of mine are shallower than others, I might have one that'll work for you.
Look for that guy who has the PSL or SVD pouch for his 5 rounders, might be what you're looking for.

I've only seen belt looped pouches marketed as Romy, and the slinged pouches as Yugo. Granted this was 3+ years ago so it's fairly irrelevant.
I'll dig in my pouches and see if I have a belt loop 40 that'll fit Vepr12 mags.

I've fired a handful of different AKs now, and (at least in 7.62) I feel like the Zastava guns are the worst for comfort. In addition to recoil, the stock feels like it's trying to slap my teeth out of my head. I was considering buying one until I tried out a friend's Yugo - are these things salvageable?

Two questions. Was it an NPAP with the boat oar stock and did it just have the slant brake on it?

N-PAP, boat oar, and slant brake.

Well you just identified all the problems.
The comb on the NPAPs is way too high and thick, and the slant brake magnifies the cheek slap. Try one with a legit M70 stock or even a different brake next time. More than a few people say even a tapco slot brake will help mitigate the slap to an extent.

Mine is the one on the right, except with a built in strap. I think a 30rd mag pouch would work, as long as it's as thicc as the one I currently have. I've got an east german and a yugo 30rd pouch, but theyre not wide enough to fit the v12 mag.

A real aimr gas system is shorter (tube and piston) so it wouldn’t fit. Bolt and carrier are the same though (7.62 version, the 5.45 is different of course)

I've read the buyers guide posted and have been researching but only understand people under 18 can't be in possession of full auto guns.

Does anyone have first hand knowledge of being able to buy and own full auto ak in Utah?
I probably want one at some point so I'm researching, but it seems vague. I heard you can only buy a semi and then convert to full, but I don't know for certain.
