There's literally nothing wrong with buying dumb, bad, or gimmick things for their own sake as long as you can comfortably afford it and treat it as what it is.

Why has nobody cloned the SPAS12? We finally have reliable semi-automatic shotguns (the SPAS only cycled the hottest 12g loads on a good day), why isn't there one where you can close the gas system and actuate the bolt with a pump?

That's called collecting, and it's normal, unless it's something that noticeably negatively impacts your life.
The SPAS12 isn't especially great, not by modern standards, but if you make sure to replace the recoil buffer (assuming it hasn't been by someone else), and you use decent 00 buck 'police' loads, then it'll work fine when you run it on semi-auto mode. On pump mode, it should cycle most stuff.
Benelli shotguns have far surpassed these, but there's no denying that the SPAS12 is one of the coolest looking shotguns ever made by man, and there's nothing wrong with wanting to have something cool.

There's pragmatic, practical reasons to have guns, but some of us genuinely enjoy firearms, too, nothing stops you from having a Glock 17 as your sidearm, but then having an old Webley or Enfield in .38 S&W, that you just shoot sometimes because it's a neat old gun that you just don't see anymore.
