God I miss mine. I was torn between getting a 9x18 barrel or a .32NAA barrel for the longest time but I had to part with the gun before I could decide. It still hurts my soul. The trigger was absolute sex and it was fucking beautiful. I'm keeping an eye out for a nice 80 series Beretta now. I won't be able to do the same one handed manipulations but the sights and safety are better

How do they compare generally to a p64 in terms of them both being 9x18? Anyone have any experience?

P64 is slightly smaller but has significantly worse double action trigger. DA on a P64 is usually around 20#. Also its slightly cheaper obviously.

i love my cz82, but it an absolute bitch right out of the box. The one i came with was missing the sear spring. Hammer would catch 1/10 times when i cocked it back.

had to take the entire damn thing apart to get it in. In that process, i lost the slide lever spring. They dont' make them anymore, but there is some lad in Florida that makes them new and improved.

that being said, once i got it all together, the thing is an absolute joy to shoot.

I have had one misfire, and that was a surplus mag. some 600 rounds down range as of typing this.

What does the BDA have over a Beretta 84/85?
Berettas seem a lot cheaper while also not having a slide safety.

The BDA looks fantastic and it has more slide to grasp during manipulations but that is it. The Beretta has better sights and controls for most people. Aside from the levers they're functionally identical but the Berettas are substantially more common, as are the FN versions.

With the BDA I could actually grasp the slide with the fingers of my right hand while pushing on the rear of the frame with my thumb to chamber a round so that was cool BUT the levers has a way a chewing up my thumb knuckle know and then. Recoil was a joke and it was a accurate as all Hell if you could see the sights

Mak is still my preferred CCW gun. Put some good ammo in it and it will do the job as well as any gun. And it's also a pleasure to carry.

P64 is the worst Mak variant, check out the P83, CZ-82, or the Hungarian one that used the Walther design.

I agree I give a slight edge to the CZ 82 but only because it holds more rounds. This is one of my carry pieces. I own 4 of them and 4 Makarovs as well along with many other 9X18 pistols.

Just bought the Hungarian one. It has an aluminum alloy frame, so I'm changing it out to a heavier recoil spring just in case that whole meme about it not being able to hold up is true.

Obviously staying away from that buffalo bore +p stuff but the Hornady critical duty seems fine. It has a longer barrel to add a little velocity, so I'm more confident in hollow points than in a classic mak.

May even get a lighter hammer spring.

The safety flicks up to fire which is the one thing I don't like about it, but everything is sturdy enough so I just de cock it, and carry safety off.

I’ve heard rumors they aren’t dropsafe with the safety off, and they were intended to be carried safety on. I hated mine. I had to take a dremel to the spot between the grip and trigger guard just to make it comfortable to HOLD, and it was a fucking bitch to shoot until then.

Still, it was $180 when I bought it. Looked unfired and never carried. Plus, FEG finishes are legendary. Very shiny and pretty gun finish-wise. If you ever see their hi power clones, get one. Same story on the finish, and they usually go for $350 or so.
