Hello Jow Forums, help me answer a simple question that's been bothering me

What is the purpose of the ridges on top of Eastern Bloc tank helmets?

Padding?

Its padding so they don't bump their heads.

Its padding to prevent head injuries while inside a moving tank.

I think those are foam? filled to absorb bumps.

Its just lines of padding, it's in lines because it's cheaper and less material intensive than making a solid panel of padding on top, and about as effective.

Hitting your bare head against steel isn't fun user.

foam wasn't really around at the time, I would expect more cotton or something else natural and soft.

Its fuckin summer again

I think its asbestos

(Not OP)
This isn't a summerfag thing to ask. It's a reasonable, military-related question. You're trying too hard to fit in, dildo.

Gotta have a couple softball questions for the people that lurk.
You didn't start learning math with algebra, did you?

horse hair

next question

Umm, no.

what the fuck do you start with then?

Derp.

It's pretty obvious to anyone above the age of 10 what they're designed for

I think it was pretty obvious that he was asking why they are designed the specific way that they are.

Really comfortable helmet design, having used one for a year of service.

You're right, I didn't read over OPs post well enough, however my comment is still true, you'd need to be a retard to not figure out why they designed it the way they did.

It's where their brain units go.

I don't think it ever was. But in theory, it could have been once. Some ww2-era helmets like the Swedish ones had their padding stuffed with horse hair. Cotton is more in Soviet style though, like in their telogreika unifoms.

Horse hair was used as a padding in old boxing gloves.

The ridges are where the Sagittal crest goes.

Slavs and other such less evolved primates all have these.

if i had to guess i would say that its for padding in the tank and the ridges allow for some air flow.
