Should I learn to shoot rifle on a more traditional grip like an A2 or MOE, or just get whatever's comfier to hold?
The way I naturally want to hold the grip makes me think I should get something more vertical.

In the opinion of those that read this and feel like answering, what is the best quality made "classic" AR-15? Classic here meaning 20 inch barrel, polymer heat shielded hand guards, front site/carry handle combination, etc.

Brownells is putting out a decent reproduction these days, I'd just replace their handguards and stock with surplus ones and call it a day.

Ash will have one of the best ARs here when his buys a geissele mk14 and light. Prove me wrong.

If you aren't concerned with it stabbing you in the chest or catching on things, I'd say go for it. They add a noticeable amount of smoothness to the action in my experience, and the ambi capability is a bonus. I'm running a version with shorter less stabby wings called the Airborne charging handle. Really its only competitor is the radian raptor which tbqh is just a copy of the SCH anyway.

The also mitigate some amount of gas blowback from overgassed or suppressed systems and are all aluminum.

Thanks for your response but I am looking for as modern as possible just without all the bells and whistles. Last I checked they just had the "retro" line but maybe I will check again.

I've been trying to find the FN15 they had at some point which is exactly what I'm talking about but it seems they replaced it with some $1700 monstrosity with no carry handle and VFG. The Colt M16A4 is exactly what I want but I've heard their QC is hit or miss these days and it's $1099.

I meant more modern and completely built rifles. Maybe classic was the wrong word to use.

S&W, rock river arms, FN, Armalite, etc. All make amazing entry level ARs, and you're wanting to get the most basic bitch gun on the planet.

Colt is fine, what few issues they may have are easily fixed. Really they are the perfect choice for someone with your criteria.

i do have a raptor and sch. don't have an ach yet, but will eventually get one.

i don't suppose i could "prove" with any real objectivity that one is better than the other, but the feel and operation of the sch just wins over the raptor in my book. plus i have never really cared for the larger right side hook of the raptor. it always looked kinda goofy to me.

So if I've got an M961, does anyone know where I can get a complete replacement head and IR filter without the long neck section on it to make it a 951? Those model numbers might be off, I honestly don't know much about surefire lights but read the main body of the 961 and 951 are identical.
