When did you graduate to gun status? What was your first?
Asher Edwards
Ryder Adams
Standard Ruger 10/22 because I'm a basic motherfucker.
Brayden James
18, 10/22. Regretted getting the Ruger because I was new and wanted to take it apart/put it back together too many times which fucks them up. Didn't regret starting on a .22 however.
Thomas Thompson
I was 23 and it was some chitty saturday night special because there was a escaped convict/shooter on the loose with a gun he stole from a cop, and I just wanted a gun for home. I discovered later that I liked guns.
Levi Howard
how did you fuck up a 10/22 with assembly/disassembly? The trigger group os held in with non threaded push pins. the barrel is held on with threaded Allen head screws which you would have to try pretty hard to fuck up... And that's basically it.
Eli Sanchez
21. Wanted to build an AR15, but you can't buy a lower until you were 21. Didn't want to build a cucked AR either, so I moved to go to school in Arizona and finished off my build there.
Now I have a job and house in AZ. Guns are on the back burner because of more pressing needs, but it feels great being able to own anything here.
Jaxson Barnes
I over-tightened the screws which ate the threading on the receiver. Steel screws, aluminum receiver.
Also being new and it being my first gun I took it apart A LOT. Like 10x a day. It got to the point that the front sight was moving around during shooting because the barrel would actually come loose. Still functioned, somehow.
Juan Evans
Kahr CM9. Felt real good man. Great firearm.
Matthew Foster
First paycheck, got an sr9c.
wish I got something else now, but it still shoots great so I can't really complain.
Jack Howard
Think I got around 700 rounds in it, we don't shoot it as much as our other guns but it's the only handgun we own
Blake Young
>take it apart/put it back together too many times which fucks them up.
>fucking up a 10/22
Fucking how?
I also started with a 10/22 and religiously stripped it down to clean after every weekly range day. Its fine and completely not fucked up.
so you fucked it up. Thats different from like an m1 garand that gets looser every time you take the trigger assy out of the stock.
Parker Cook
15yrs old, got myself a Winchester M94 for hunting purposes.
Joseph Campbell
16 year old me, cart pushing at walmart, pinched enough pennies and got myself an M1 Garand
Camden Brooks
I was 26 when I bought my AR, first firearm. Learned a lot about guns and lots of myths around them. Also had my first encounters with fudds and you don’t need that crowd.
Isaac Cooper
Turkish Radikal GK01 when I was 18. Very good quality for the price. Got me into clays.
Wyatt Wright
Well of course I fucked it up. I was new and nobody told me that was an issue. In any case it was years ago so a lesson learned not to be an idiot. This kind of thing tends to happen when people get their first gun and don't know what they're doing.
Jace Lee
so where is the ruger now?
Nolan Lee
First gun was a Mosin-Nagant that my dad got me as a Christmas gift when I turned 18.
Bought my first gun, an O-PAP after I got a job as a cashier.
Isaiah Fisher
CBC Brazil break open 20ga.
Noah Garcia
Sold it to some guy on Calguns who pretty much stripped it, bored out the threading and built an HB bench queen off it.
Got myself a Remington 511X and later a CZ452, which I liked a lot better.
Colton Taylor
Glad that the gun lived pretty much a new life, then.
Would field stripping an AR, then, over and over wear it out similar to out the Ruger wore out? Seems like the steel takedown pins would wear against the aluminum over time.
Adam Perry
Damn those Turks make some nice looking guns
Nathaniel Hughes
My dad bought me one of those old Westernfield single shot .22s when i turned 10. First time he took me hunting and shot over me was when I was 3 so I'd been looking forward to that for a long time
Julian Harris
The way you said it had more than one of thinking that you were blaming the gun. Which is why i kinda jumped in. It's not an issue of steel interfacing on aluminum, it was inexperience. And i say that in a non demeaning way.
>Seems like the steel takedown pins would wear against the aluminum over time.
take a look at all the beat up m16/m4 still in service being field stripped daily. The wear is there but it's negligible. And if you feel like there is too much play with upper and lower fitment then you can always get an accu wedge.
Isaac Barnes
Eventually they could widen out the holes and fit loose I suppose.
Problem with the 10/22 is specifically that it uses screws. Over-tighten the screws and because they are made of steel they will simply pull the aluminum threading out of the holes on the receiver. At that point there isn't a good surface for the screw to tighten against and the gun will rattle loose.
What makes it kind of sketchy is that on a 10/22 you have to take these screws out to take the gun apart. So if you want it to last a long time you should mostly clean it without disassembly and be very careful putting it back together if you ever do take it apart.
A takedown pin on the AR isn't threaded, it's just retained by a detent which can be replaced if it wears out. Therefore you can't really over-tighten it and it would take some stupendous amount of repetition to wear out the upper/lower pin holes. You could potentially kill the hole that the pistol grip screw threads into, but you probably aren't threading/unthreading that every day.
Ethan Brown
True, I guess as long as I field strip normally (just after every range outing) and clean, things should be fine. Thanks for the explanation.
And yeah, the 10/22 seemed like an awesome gun except for needing a tool (screwdriver) to take it apart. I like military designs for that reason; they need to be able to be taken down without any tools, in the field.
I'm thinking about getting a dedicated .22 AR-15 (a CMMG bolt carrier group with a dedicated barrel, not a conversion kit) for that reason: hinge the upper and lower apart, wipe the crud off of the blowback BCG, run a boresnake through the barrel, and you're good to go.
Jaxson Jones
Most people would never touch the grip screw as there is literally no reason to ever do so for basic maintenance. Screws suck and I'm glad that most systems guns use don't use them.
Carter Adams
In hindsight if I had to buy another 10/22 I would just clean it from the muzzle with the bolt locked back. It's a simple blowback design so there isn't that much to get at.
There's a bit of gunk that likes to build up above/behind the bolt but it takes a lot to really affect the gun in any way. At that point field strip but be very careful not to cross-thread or over-tighten the screws. I wish somebody had told me that.
>.22LR upper
I looked into that route back when I had an AR. Ran a drop-in bolt conversion and it was OK but it just didn't angle my dangle like a good bolt-action did. Besides which I just didn't like the AR-15 all that much either.
But hey if you have an AR-15 and want it to double as a .22LR it's a good way to get cheaper trigger time on it and hone familiarity on the same platform. It won't be cheaper than a standalone dedicated .22 rifle though, since you can buy one for next to nothing. My used 511X was $125.
Luis Carter
Thanks, I'll keep those tips in mind should a 10/22 end up in my life.
I've looked and looked, but pretty much no quality semi-auto 22 allows for easy disassembly like a good dedicated 22 AR-15.
(I imagine the GSG STG-44, MP-40, MP5, etc. clones do allow for it, but they're plastic clamshell airsoft-tier garbage; I'd rather spend the $400 or so on a bolt-action C&R.)
I look forward to the Tikka T1X coming out later this year, just for more competition in the "Nice bolt-action 22" market. There's the CZ-455 line of rifles, which are nice...but eh, not really my thing. The Ruger 77/22's one saving grace is that it takes 10/22 magazines, but otherwise it's expensive and its accuracy is mediocre compared to the CZ.
Beyond that you have expensive Gucci options like the Anschutzes and Suhls, and I'd rather not get a heart attack at dinging a $1000 .22 rifle's fine wooden stock when plinking with it.
Matthew Ramirez
Frenchfag here. Got my first at 16 yo for my 17th birthday, it was a CZ 455 in .22LR.
Michael Carter
On my 18th birthday. Got myself a mossberg 500 tactical persuader. Decent gun, but not really a fan of the pistol grip and retractable buttstock on it. Looking back I wish I'd gotten a 590 or if I stuck with the 500 that I'd gotten a non tacticool model with a standard stock and wood furniture.
Parker Hall
Look around your local gun store. You know the one that looks like a dusty attic with a long-ass shelf full of old-ass hunting shotguns and bubba-fucked Arisakas? That one.
Check out their used .22 rifles from the 70s and 60s. There's always going to be piles of the things because you pretty much can't shoot a .22LR rifle enough to really wear the rifling out. They'll usually be priced $200 or less and you can often talk the fudd running the place down even more if you care to do so.
Remington 511, Mossberg M44, Marlin, you name it. Even old department store brand guns with no serial numbers. You would honestly be surprised how well those old things shoot and they're a fun cheap way to tide you over until you find something fancier.
Although for me, it's the CZ 452. Out of production now, sadly but you can usually find one for about $200-300. Not only are they accurate but the bolt is smooth as glass. I can work mine with just my pinky. The 455s are more modular, but the bolt throw is notchy so I don't much care for them.
There's also a Zastava .22 that pops up every now and then when you least expect it and that thing is quite nice for the money.
Henry Lee
And for only 800 kangaroodollars new with a bunch of chokes. Had it for nearly three years and go shooting every weekend, it's held up incredibly well but I do tend to baby my guns.
A raghead gun is doing Gods work, though. Ironic.
Thomas Cook
410 shotgun when I was just an 11 year old lad
Kevin Cook
Uncle gave me a rossi .38 when I was a teenager prolly 15 or 16....gave me a SKS too around the same time well loaned it then let me pay him what he payed for it which was less than $100.
Jordan Scott
What do you think about it or the CW9 compared to other similar sized 9mms?
Jayden Lewis
I started shooting .22s when I was 10ish, but Dad had to sell them after the divorce. When I was 14 he bought me a nugget and I've built on from there
Wyatt Reyes
I was 16 and had just dropped out of highschool. I got a black lab and an SKS from the same guy
Joseph Jones
I got a Remington 572 fieldmaster from my grandad when I was 18, and a Colt woodsman from my dad. 22lr master race? I’ve since graduated to a 1940s vintage colt fuddyfive and then a few new 9mms and AR meme.
Can’t decide if next I’ll put together a 300blk pistol or get a full size cz.
Adam Jones
18 in 2013. Bought a nugget and 700 rounds of tula for like $120. Still like my nugget, got to experience a Jow Forums Maymay that newerfags won’t.
Jackson Miller
I was fifteen and my grandpa gave me a ruger new vaquero
Henry Campbell
Was gifted a reproduction 1858 Remington for Christmas when I was 14.
Jason Anderson
Meh you live and learn.
But don't regret getting the Ruger, it's a great little gun for the money.
If anything regret your ignorance and move on.
Aiden Lopez
I got a moist nugget when I turned 18 because of this shithole's memes.
Alexander Perez
First fun that was mine was a Nugget 91/30 my dad gave for my 17th birthday. First one I bought was a Yugo SKS for $220 when I was 19. I still have both.
Jayden Barnes
I remember when they had those in like the 80's?
Jason Martin
My first gun was a Glock 19. Then I got a Savage 308 bolt gun and a meh tier Stoeger shotty. It wasn't until well into my collection that I got my first .22 (Marlin 60).
Chase Brown
Bout 9yo
Dad got me a Stevens 20ga single shot.
Started teaching me to hunt rabbit, quail, dove and pheasant.
At 13 he got me and him matching 870 Wingmasters taught me to duck, goose and deer hunt.
Im in my 50s now and lost him 20 yrs ago but still have those 870s in the back of my safe.
Christian Mitchell
Cool Grandpa
Mason Baker
First one I owned? Remington 700BDL in .300 Win Mag for durr hunting. First one I bought? Beretta 96A1.
William Anderson
12 years old. Got handed my Glenfield (Marlin) 30A chambered in 30-30. 18 now and I got 5 more along the way.
Michael Campbell
Just change out the stock?
Tyler Hall
When I was 18, my dad bought me a Remington 1911 R1.
Logan Green
Dad bought me a single shot 22 when I was 6 or so. Then a 10/22 then a 20 gauge. At this point I was 14 or so and started "buying" my own guns.
Connor Nelson
Mossberg 590A1 SPX, believe it was in 2010. Moved to an apartment in a new city and soon after wanted some form of home defense. I got into cars and didn't spend much on guns for a long time, but now I'm back on guns and looking to grow my collection a lot. I now have a safe with 15 guns and 4 pending NFA stamps for suppressors and an SBR.
Hunter Cruz
When I was 16 mom passed me a Marlin model 60 that she'd gotten from her dad. It was the start of an addiction.
Juan Jenkins
I got this for my fifth birthday. Slayed many bottle caps and carried it on an elk hunt for "protection or so I could shoot one if I saw it" when I was like 6 or 7.
Landon Jones
21. Bought a Ruger LC9s.
Blake Murphy
As a kid Dad would let me shoot his .22 and single-shot 20 gauge. He also had an Ithaca 37, but the buttstock was unfinished and not installed. He never did get around to finishing it.
Dad got me a Remington 870 when I was 13. Then he got me a Remington 7600 when I was 17.
First gun I bought myself was a surplus Browning Hi Power when I was 27. Don't know what took so long. Now I've got twentysomething.
And we did get Dad's Ithaca finished a couple years ago for Father's Day.
Grayson Sullivan
smith and wesson model 54 when I turned 21 because I wanted a revolver as my first
it was used and the hammer was worn down and wouldnt fire every other shot, usually 2 out of the six, but would "tap" the primer enough to put a dent in it but it wouldnt shoot. I gave it back to them, and instead of sending it to smith and wesson they said they could send it to a gunsmith they knew for 40 dollars
>its a simple fix, just needs a new spring, wont be more then a week
4 weeks later I get it back, and it hasnt been fixed at all. tried different ammo types, cleaned it regularly ect but still it wouldnt work. I finally went back in and asked for a trade, the clerk was cool with it but the ownber marched over and started yelling at me in front of all the customers
>youre not getting ALL you money back, kid
>its broken the fuck am I supposed to do with it
>we'll send it to smith and wesson for you
stood my ground, saying Im at the very least getting my 40 dollars back for the gunsmith and im leaving this thing here, he caved and said "fuck it, do the trade, but youre getting a great deal here buddy"
got another revolver thats been fine, but I will never go back in to the store. Ive heard from other people hes a jerk but is one of the only local shops close by so people just put up with it. Its a good thing I wanted to get into guns for a while, if I was just starting out of curiosity I probably wouldnt be here right now
Luis Sanchez
Ironically, my first gun was a graduation present for college from my family.
Gavin James

Nathaniel Lopez
I was 19 when i got a m1a socom 16 as a graduation/bday present
Justin Long
Gewehr 1888, believe it or not. Found one cheap a while back and it gave me the milsurp itch.
Eli Scott
Got my first gun at 43, just before the 2016 election. I grew up in a noguns household in a deep cuck state (NJ), then went to college in California and lived in a dorm, so no guns there. Then I lived in Japan for a while (actually not too far from where Yuru Camp is set), which meant no guns there, either. When I came back, I had a job where I was on the road (mostly in airplanes) so much that I was barely ever at home, so there wasn't much of a point. After I got tired of that, I went back to grad school, so I was extreme poorfag for a while and couldn't afford it. Finally in the fall of 2016, I found myself in a situation where I had a job that was bringing in a good income, but still had the expense structure of a grad student, so that's when I finally became a hasguns (and yes, the runup to the election was a big factor, too). Now I'm a 16guns, if you count all my unbuilt stripped AR and Polymer80 Glock lowers too. Feels good, man. I waited too long to do this.
Liam Jenkins
I fell for the mosin meme when I was 21 and I wish I had saved my money and bought something nicer. It's in good condition but now I'm stuck with a rifle I have no reason to keep beyond it being my first gun.
Robert Bennett
Unironically bought a Mosin as a first gun, couldn't hit the broad side of the barn with that piece of shit.
Christopher Garcia
21. Ar15 built off an 80%

Daniel Collins
.22 Ruger single shot at age 4
.22 Springfield M2 Training Rifle at age 10
.45 1911 at 15
M1 Garand at 18
Half a dozen other guns since then
Grew up around guns my whole life. Started out only shooting while supervised, of course, but by the time I was in high school I was carrying a rifle in my truck most of the time. I lived in Wyoming, so it was pretty normal, and the cops weren't bothered. This was only back in the early 2000's, but I remember comparing guns with other students in the highschool parking lot and nobody seemed to care. Now I think that even in Wyoming that would bring down a SWAT team on your head.
Jacob Anderson
Mossberg 500 for my 12th birthday. Thanks dad.
Joshua Flores
27. I bought a Greek G3 kit and built it with a flat in my manager's shop. I spent the better part of a year prior to gathering all the parts just reading everything I could about building or watching AGI videos. I even ordered that Gunplumber HK DVD which was a massive rip off that failed to mention in its description on the website that it didn't include installing a barrel or welding.
Robert Reyes
18, Bought a chinese sks with bayonet from a friend of my dad, said he bought a bunch like 20 years ago and never used them, almost all matching serial numbers except for stock, bought it for $450.
Jeremiah Walker
SKS, for my fiancé it was a Makarov
Nicholas Jones
>not graduating from no guns before graduating high school
I feel bad for you.
Dylan Jenkins
Bought me an M1A as soon as I turned 18. Thanks to CA's 10 day wait period, the entire duration was half suffering and half wet dreams.
Bentley Cooper
19
AR-15 I bought with the money I made as an RA at my college
Now that I'm in the real world, I don't have as much disposable income, but I'm saving up for a decent red dot and handgun.

Nathaniel Sanders
18, Browning HiPower mk3 combat (2-tone, ring hammer, bigger sights, pachmayr grips) and two dozen battered brit surplus mags that I managed to assemble eight reliable ones from.
This was more than twenty years ago so that was the shit for a reasonably priced pistol that would do for carry and competition.
Jason Long
Colt Defender, around age 27 or so. I love 1911's now.
Gabriel Brown

Mosin m44 carbine. I mowed lawns all summer and went to a bzzt bzzt beef jerky sale with my father and he let me pick out a rifle I wanted. I still have it, however it’s at my parents still since I moved out. It cost $50

18. Bought an M1 Garand and a 10/22 around the same time.
Parker Scott
Wew, I admire and envy you, what a damn fine way to start. You still got it?
Brayden Ward
First shot when I was 8, didn't own my own gun until I was 28. Joined the Army at 21 and couldn't really own one until after I got out.
Bentley Garcia
I was 16.
I was gifted a sporterized NoImkIII*
I still have her, 20 years later. She's the one in the gun sock in the back.
Blake White
Just yesterday @ 26. Bought a Ruger 10/22 Takedown and a CZ-75 B.
Anthony Hernandez
Fucking 10 years old. With the shittiest tube fed .22 you have ever seen. I've ND twice with the fucker because the safety didn't engage and a 22 cartridge got stuck in the action, out of sight, and chambered when I open and closed the action. No one hurt. Decimated an antique mirror though.
Noah Anderson
>15
Pic related. Built it myself and got 12 gauge shells from a friend.
Aiden Robinson
Came from a no-fun family. Fun friendly/absolute history channel fan of a grandpa bought me a Marlin 336 when I was 18. Sparks interest in old cowboy guns and west history. Now have a collection of 15ish guns Half of which are made by uberti.
Henry Campbell
I was 21 last semester of college,. California
So I had some extra hoops to jump through and built my first ar-15.
Actually it was back when Amazon and eBay still sold gun parts.
Bought my gun smithing tools and bullet button knock off on Amazon, bought Magpul bits and pieces off eBay.

right after before I turned 19. It was an armalite a2 clone.
Luis Thompson
My dad gave me a Marlin 60 when I was 14. I used and abused it and 23 years later it still works great.
Zachary Ward
That's pretty cool. I bet you're feeling good about such a purchase.
Brody Stewart
I bought an m91/30 the day I turned 18 at a Dunham's sports. I got delayed on the background check and thought I had done something wrong. Good times
