I took my GF to the range for the first time. She did quite good for the first time, especially safety-wise.
The only problem is that she is right handed yet can't close her left eye when aiming down sights.
How to fix this issue? Anyone had similar experience?

... Are you sure she's not cross-dominant?

Another good technique is to have them close one eye. If they can't see the thing they were looking at anymore, then the eye they closed is their dominant eye.

triangle face method to determine eye dominance, look though a triangle made with hands like the illuminati symbol, then bring it back slowly to the face looking though the center, the eye it goes over is the domnant one... or just get blinders

Oh she's cross dominant alright ;)

Shoot with both eyes open.

Is it THAT hard to find a spoon?

>Closing an eye when shooting
This is sure going to help yoou in a life death situation huh?

Thank you guys, this might help. So what if she has a dominant left eye but is right handed?

Shoot long-guns lefty and handguns righty.

Worked for Travis Bickell.

I looked it up, this might do it, but requires training as I read and I am not sure if she would care enough.

Noted.

Yep. This is what I have to do.

Shoot left handed. It'll feel weird at first, but it'll fairly quickly become natural.

Here's how Tommy Lee Jones cured Nickolas Cage in Firebirds.

It took me just 15 minutes to switch from one to both eyes open. It was so easy I cursed myself for not having done it earlier, always having thought it some daunting task.
Just aim at a fixed point with your dominant eye and then open the other. After just a few tries you'll realize that what became your regular view at first now stays focused as if you were using only your dominant eye. Then you can start moving your sights to a different point after you open the second eye, then closing it again to check if your aim was true. You'll be surprised. I was, anyway. Just do this a bunch of times in your living room and then try it out on the range.

The benefits are pretty great. No more face strain is my favourite.

I'm cross eye dominant. I still find it easier to adapt myself to right handed guns rather than buy lefty guns. I can shoot with both eyes open but I have to squint my dominant left eye a bit.

Ill never get over this level of retarded

Learn to close your other fucking eye, it just takes practice
>t. cross dominant that learned to shoot with their off eye

>Ill never get over this level of retarded
How is it retarded, asshole? It's significantly easier to switch dominant hands than to switch dominant eyes and training to not shoot both eyes open is fucking dumb.

I'm cross dominant and can't shoot for shit lefty, so I shoot rifles with my non dominant eye, and shoot cross for handguns. Works fine for me

Did she enjoy it? I was thinking of taking a girl to a range for a date. I live in no-guns land so it's something she hasn't done before and that I rarely justify the expense of for myself. I thought it might be a bit different and if not I still get to go shooting.

I'm a no-gun Airsofter and have always shot with both eyes open - it's amazing to me that people out there actually squint. Lrn2shoot.

I'm cross-dominant, yet still manage the difficult task of closing my left eye

I'm an advocate of keeping both eyes open, but if you have trouble keeping your sight picture, it might be a good aid to practice with one eye closed for a while so you can have the image of a good sight picture burned in your brain.

First, tell her to lift one finger and then bring it slowly towards her face. The eye the finger is over is the dominant one. Shooting with both eyes open is better, since you can get better depth perception, so try to practise that from the start. Now, if she is having problems focusing on the front sight then tell her to slightly close her non-dominant eye so she can get a better sight picture then open the other eye once again. (Also do that is she is seeing double)

I'm cross dominant (right handed, left eye). I shoot pistols righty, long guns lefty, both eyes open. It's not hard.

honestly bro just let her shoot the guns and then say good job. that's the only practicality she'll ever have for that skill anyways. certainly don't take it seriously, pretend you're trying to teach your dad how to play video games and just humor her.

bumping, anyone done something similar?

I'm left eye/right hand dominant and I only found out about eye dominant 10 years after I started plinking. I always found it odd that I was significantly better with handguns than with rifles and, after 10 minutes of shooting from the left shoulder, cut my group sizes in half.

Though, I suppose I've always been pretty mixed handed, so YMMV. I'd still suggest trying it. You get other benefits like having faster mag changes and transitions to sidearms.

Absolutely worth it. Just make sure to introduce her to the concept of firearm safety in a quiet, controlled environment. Just holding an unloaded gun is enough to dispel a lot of the fears society brainwashes into you.

Squinting makes sense for very long range shooting and little else.

I find women really appreciate the fine motor controls and "zen" required for precision shooting and, given enough instruction to not chick-lean or chicken-wing, really grasp the skills for it quickly (Often quite faster than inexperienced men who think they know what they're doing because they played lots of CS or CoD).

I am cross eye dominant. I can shoot a handgun with either eye.

Reminder that watermelon is one of the most delicious fruits in existence and nogs are justified in loving it

It really doesn't. Takes a few minutes to adjust and you'll do it forever after that.

Totally this. I tried everything, even both eyes open, and nothing worked. Then i really tried both eyes open, and it's truly amazing. Even with pistols.

>another hurr-durr cross-dominance wat do thread
Fuck off.

Gripping your raifu tight.

What if I can always see it no matter which eye I close?

You're doing it incorrectly. The triangle you form with your hands has to be just large enough for you to see the object and no larger.

The stereotype is not in their preference for watermelon, but in the uncivilized manner they eat it

I have one friend that does this. I have another friend that just shoots the rifle same handed as pistol and torques his head to be able to get the eye that he wants behind his pistol sights. Crazy shit.
