So how many of you would actually trust an ar15 in SHTF?
So how many of you would actually trust an ar15 in SHTF?
What would you trust instead?
What AR15? A bargain bin PSA? No. A DD or KAC? Sure. A Colt or Shrubmaster? If I had experience with it and knew it to be reliable, then sure no reason not to.
But what really matters is mags. You could have a rifle that is 100% reliable and it will still be a total liability if you're using black follower USGI mags or thermolds.
Why wouldn't I?
I would. Versatile and reliable while still being fairly lightweight.
>incredibly reliable
>simple to clean and maintain
>very accurate
>perfect for close to mid ranges
>light weight
>modest average capacity for single fire
>easily modifiable
>fucking tons of accessories that are easily interchangeable
>accurate to longer distances with a rest and good scope
>incredibly popular weapon so there is an over abundance of ammunition across the entire country
>one of the most popular weapons so even if you pick one off some poor dead corpse you are instantly versed in it's operation and how to clear malfunctions
Nah it is a shitty meme gun everyone buys because the world runs on memes and not common fucking sense. Retarded thread OP just fucking retarded.
My meme parts build has not had a single malfunction in roughly 2500-3000 rnds. Why wouldn't I trust it?
so how many of you would actually waste everyone's time with worthless shitpost threads on Jow Forums?
Not if the flashlight is blocking the sights.
My Adams Arms upper? Oh yes.
It's offset, retard.
>incredibly reliable
Yikes!
After being issued one I will forever call that a false statement
>low profile gas block
>no full length free floated rail
>issued
>AR15
I'll give you 10 seconds to figure out why you're a fucking retarded sack of wet shit. Dumbass noguns making stupid threads posting about issues they know nothing about.
itll still kill you dead even if its not your special snowflake ar. thats what a real working mans ar looks like.
Wasr? Arsenal?
I made this thread, not him, you stupid fucking newfangled retard faggot
>you stupid fucking newfangled retard faggot
This is your first thread isn't it?
You must be 18 to post here
I don't like AR but it's got some good traits.
one big thing is, it is easy to repair
In all complete honestly I would not, simply because I know that's what everybody else would have. I'd want something that could outperform an AR in ways that it can't compete:
>long range calibers to outrange it
>12ga buckshot to outperform in alpha damage
>rounds capable of defeating - or in the case of shotgun slugs, absolutely brutalizing in despite of - common body armor
>heavier calibers able to penetrate cover more easily
Things like that. I understand these all come with drawbacks but the benefits that come along with being the one motherfucker around with tools that let him do things nobody else can outweigh the drawbacks, like round count and weight.
>Wasr? Arsenal?
Why the question marks? What would you trust instead.
You wouldn’t? As long as your AR is not a trash fucking build, it’s just about the same as any other gun. My $500 meme del-ton has eaten 700 rounds with no malfunctions.
Youre reading it or interpreting it wrong I guess. I don know how to explain.
But yes. Either a WASR or arsenal. X39, maybe 545 if I can get one some day
Unfortunately this isn't bait
These posts always bring a smile
>"Of course I trust my $500 Nissan, Ive driven it 150 miles without it breaking down"
Its like, yeah truly a reputation beyond reproach haha
Ive got a diamondback thats about 650 with 0 problems as well. 550$
I mean honestly thats pretty fuckin good for a 500$ vehicle.
>issued
>I.E. a poorly maintained, lowest-bidder m4 issued to, and abused by, literal monkeys for probably more than a decade before you had it.
>Being indicative of the state of AR15s.
>lightweight
>easy to use
>accurate
>reliable
>parts and ammo ubiquity
>replacement is drop-in without gunsmithing fuckery
If you shoot even a moderate amount, you know that guns break, and having parts that are available counts for a lot. Having an easily serviced tool that MAY not be 100% reliable in 1% of situations, beats one that is but becomes a paperweight when something breaks because parts are not commonly available.
>akfag makes a thread countersignalling ar quality
why is it like this every fucking day on Jow Forums
>fucked up
>still retarded
>thinks AR15 are M4s
It is like they just gave you a little list of retarded shit to spew and you're going down a check list with no idea what you're saying.
I figure SHTF would most likely look like an LA Riots or Hurricane Katrina situation so I'd feel fine with an AR.
Lol where. I wana go shitpost
Well, its either that or you get raided by a bunch of fags posting gun bunnies or some retarded shit. You have like 30 other threads to look at
>I was issued a rifle made by the lowest bidder that was probably molested by three generations of soldier.
>This is proof the entire gun line is unreliable.
if it's from a reputable manufacturer like Colt or something then absolutely.
The difference between the two is minimal. Like one hole, one pin, one sear and a differently shaped disconnector, out of 100 odd parts.
My first car was a Ford focus and it went 20k miles on the 500 I paid for it. I wasnt sad when she shit the bed, just miss having her as my beater
yuropoor here, this is the only semi auto rifle i own so i guess i'll have to trust it. Never had any issue with it so far in a couple of years.
It is so easy to disassemble and maintain. It's lightweight and compact and almost "take down"
Don't see a reason not to if ur in US.
Where I live I would trust an AK in 762 more since the ammo is everywhere, and 556 not so much. 545 is pretty much nowhere to be found
AR is a fine gun, can't really point to a better long gun out there if you got the ammo for it.
As former infantry with plenty of M4/M16/AR15: yes.
Summer
My $650 rifle has been through close to 8k rounds, only hiccups was used shit usgi mags. Pretending you need Gucci makes you a retard. Source parts around July 4/a national holiday, build it yourself, done and done.
I have an AR15 chambered in .50 Beowulf.
Ballistically it is very, very similar to 45-70 gov.
Where is your God now?
Definitely would, it’s proven to work and ammo for it would be abundant in the US
That comparison is bunk because one can reasonably expect most guns to have some sort of malfunction in the span of 700 rounds, it can be incredibly minor. Whereas a car should absolutely not break down before burning through even just one tank of gas. Also, the quality and condition of a 5 or 6 hundred dollar gun can't be compared to what you can expect for a car of the same price as the majority of all cars cost considerably more than the vast majority of common production guns.
>reputable manufacturer like Colt
>alpha damage
Good god
>SHTF?
what exactly do you mean by this? civil unrest? famine? war? unless you're in the center of chicongo or baltimore, you'd be better served by a bolt-action rifle with less potential for mechanical failure. only niggers will act like it's every man for himself.
>unless you're in the center of chicongo
>tfw that's me
I'll need to fight my way through at least one feral neighborhood
if you're so concerned, doesn't it make sense to move somewhere else now than worry about whether or not your AR will hold up when you have to fight your way out "escape from NY" style?
>long range calibers to outrange it
That's why you move and use cover. Shooting past the effective range of an AR at a moving target is incredibly difficult.
>12ga buckshot to outperform in alpha damage.
Maybe against a grizzly bear. Against a human a shotgun is outdated and virtually worthless on the battlefield beyond utility purposes.
>rounds capable of defeating - or in the case of shotgun slugs, absolutely brutalizing in despite of - common body armor
Level IIIA kevlar soft body armor will stop buckshot and slugs. Whether or not it causes enough internal damage to incapacitate or kill depends on the placement. 5.56 will tear right through it.
>heavier calibers able to penetrate cover more easily
What cover are you talking about, exactly? If you're talking about an engine block, or a 6 inch thick cement wall good luck getting any round shy of anti material to penetrate it. That's why it's called cover, not concealment. 5.56 will penetrate concealment just as well as a larger round if not better.
>if you're so concerned
I'm not, we're probably at least a decade out from balkanization
>doesn't it make sense to move somewhere else now
Nah, job is good
>rather than worry about whether or not your AR will hold up
Not worried, I know it will hold up fine
You sure?
If it were to go down (and it won't) my go to is my SCAR but that doesn't mean my DDM4 isn't a close second.
About what?
I prefer my AKs because that’s what I’m more familiar with. My ARs are pretty cheap and it wouldn’t surprise me if some plastic parts started melting in a legit firefight.
Any well-built AR, AK, or Garand pattern rifle will get you through SHTF just fine.
Too bad their AR-15 was a product of the engineer that FN wooed away, and everything they've done since then has as abysmal track record.
I would, but I wouldn't carry one as I don't own one. As I plan to bug in if that ever happens, I'll just open carry my SKS or one of my bolt guns if I'm outside
Thing that really attracted me to AKs is that I've seen people build the receivers from scrap metal. Pretty badass. Speaking of which; do you guys think that a pretty standard AK receiver could be built and slightly modified to connect an AR barrel to make like a Frankenstein rifle?
Stop hating on my hornady sst slugs. My mossy was my first gun. I refuse to sell her because of 'muh scar' or whatever. My ar is reliable too. I think we can all agree here that its probably better to have more guns than less and a well rounded collection will keep you from worrying about the what if scenarios.
uh oh you pissed of the swarm of normie ar owners, get ready for post like "mine has never had issues" and "yours is lowest bidder made"
Yeah why not? We’ve got a plethora of pats available and anyone who has have a brain would know to stock up on parts as well. Keep a few BCGs, some gas tubes, a barrel or two whatever else you needed. Yes an AK platform can be arguably more reliable, but an AR is close and much more user friendly in terms of amateur gun smithing.
