Is late 20s too old to join the military or get a law enforcement job?

No, it's not.

Yes it is.

No it’s not

Maybe.

I don’t know

Sorry. What was the question again?

Depends, 29 is too old for most militaries, 28 is not. But late 20s is definitely not too old for joining law enforement.

Either way it's going to be a bit weird, as most of your fellow recruits will be around 17-19

It's unusual for cops in my city to start younger than late-20s. Lot of people want the six figure pay, and being younger and having less life experiences works against your favour, so the recruiter said.

Only too old for marines. But marines are for retards.

Cops? No, mid to late 20s is standard.

I got off my cancerous phone lurking app just to say that I hope that's the reference I'm thinking that it is...

Most cops start in their mid to late 20's. I was 21 when I started and it caused some issues because the entirety of the department didn't really trust or like the idea of such a young officer.

Or what? You're not my boss.

Its only too late when you hit the age limit where you can no longer get an age waiver. I know operators in their 50s still active.

Come again?

>tfw 25 and work at post office
>tfw want to be a cop
>tfw got caught shoplifting once when 22
>tfw plead it down to disorderly conduct

Guess I won't be able to. I make comparable money at my job anyway.

Go to an Army recruiter and ask about 31B. You may want to search the archive or ask in /meg/ threads, too. You'd probably be enlisting for four years full time and two part time; once your first four years are up, you'd have experience and apply for a part time job at the local PD.

Army was taking people as old as 40 when I joined, not sure about now.

>tfw got caught shoplifting once when 22
Nigger, that was just three years ago. Like hell they'd hire you. You could join the USAF and fuck servicewomen all day if you're fit enough, though.

I already make 54k a year at my current job, any military would be a downgrade.

>tfw the USPS makes more money than than a Navy SEAL
Such is life.

I thought you were OP.

Granted, I am always chomping at the bit for overtime, but on average I make around 54k annually. This is also because I'm career, not a CCA, RCA or PSE. My base pay is closer to $43000 with my two and a half years of step increases.

SEALs make okay money, the guys that swept the lifeboat in the Maersk Alabama hijacking split $30,000 for one day of work

No, that's not how it works anymore. They no longer hire the calm cool headed old men or the rough manly men. They only hire women, angsty young manlets, and blacks.

I'm not sure about military but you should have no issues with getting a LE job as far as age is concerned. I graduated police academy at 26 and had departments beating down my door asking to come test and interview with them. There where several in my class that where older and they had no issues finding work. In my experience, most departments would prefer candidates be under 35 y/o if they have no experience but there is no hard rule on that. If you have good experience that is a whole different ball game.

Not anymore.

Is being a game warden Jow Forums approved? I wanna protect animals and preserve shooting pits from dumpers (in my area, poaching and dumping get shooting pits closed down in a heartbeat. Barely any to be found as opposed to a hundred only 10 years ago.)

>Graduate police academy
>Still have to do tests

Exactly this. I joined when I was 26 and hated it. I know 26 isn't the pinnacle of being a mature wise sage, but having 19 year old meatheads tell you what to do was... awkward to say the least. It really is astounding how young a lot of recruits are. No joke, most of them are babyface virgins whos balls havnt, or just dropped. That being said, I got to E5 in 4 years because I never got NJPd or fucked up like all the young guys did. Always on time for work, never hung over, was not trying to juggle 2 girlfriends and going clubbing on weekend. I spent my weekends on base most of the time.

What MOS?

Didn't translate to civ life nearly as well as I thought. I work for verizon now.

t.second graders

No, but if you wanted to be an officer probably.

You can usually put yourself through the academy if you don't have a job lined up.

I know in PA at least half the PDs won't touch you unless you either have prior experience, are a Vet, or put yourself through for six months of uncompensated work

No. I'm in my late 20's and recently had a recruiter contact me (graduate school). I told him I was probably too old, thinking he called me by mistake, but he said not at all. Seems to be especially true if you have some sort of skill or education.

I’m 26 and want to join the USAF. Any tips? I finished college and have worked a bunch of service sector hell jobs. Worked at a bank and despised it. Worked in landscaping and that was okay (more active). Now I’m helping on the family farm, but I’m tired of seeing my life wasted in this shit serv. sec. economy.
I am in good shape. Have management and teaching experience.

I cant really speak to the chair force, so take this as completely uninformed advice. If you went to college, especially if you want to join the air force, you should commission and join as officer. You probably wont br able to get a super badass job like fighter pilot, but you can certainly learn how to work on advanced machinery and get a good job when you get out.

Should add that I know a few languages, including Spanish and Portuguese. What would I join to do cool shit in South America? I don’t want to work on planes all day.
Only leaning USAF because it’s kind of a family tradition

Wish I could give you advice but honestly I have no idea. The military is always looking for interperitor, they are in very high demand... but I dont think Spanish counts. 2/3rds of the US military speaks it

Try and go 14N intel officer, your language knowledge could help hopefully vector you to a job with SOUTHCOM. There are also several deployment opportunities to go to columbia as an adviser. Hes right though, Spanish and portuguese speakers are a dime a dozen though

Do not do not do not do not ever go 31b if you ever want to be a civilian cop, it works against you, pick another job.

What about German?
Other than that I can read and write Russian and took a couple semesters of Hebrew.

The requirement goes down but the latest is like thrity two.

Probably not a whole lot with german but russian absolutely is as it is a "strategic language" or whatever they call it

Why do they hire the worst people to be cops?
When did cops become so fucking gay?
I heard and was told this, itd gospel in Canada.

Not at all. My SFAS training buddy is approaching 30 and he's a PT monster.

>Is being a game warden Jow Forums approved
Who cares what some niggers think?
Go be a game warden and get that sweet deer pussy.

Fuck. I’ve liked German my whole life. I wish I was more drawn to Russian. It just sounds ugly; and not in a cool way.
Anyway thanks user, I’ll look into 14N/SOUTHCOM. Anything is better than the prostate cancer from this dead end economy. Last year, I was about ready to go die in the USMC just to feel like I did something other than work, pay bills, and jackoff.

Yeah we have so many bases in Eruope and what not and most europeans speak english anyway so there just isnt a need, i think french is the exception though with all the countries that use it in Africa. Good luck man, dont let these neverserves make fun of you for being Air Force

>Do not do not do not do not ever go 31b if you ever want to be a civilian cop, it works against you, pick another job.
Oh? That surprises me. I believe you, but why is it so?

A friend just got on with a small city PD and he's fucking 41!

I've heard this too but never any real evidence to back it. I've known a handful of cops who were MPs for different branches

It is never too late to do simething you want. If youre in decent shape go for it. There were plenty of guys in their twenties in my training platoon and one of my buddies now is 26. We even have an older guy who does a lot of lifting and hes a pfc

Mid 20s is when you hit physical peak. Go join.

This is true for me. Test levels still rising, though the rise is less exponential.
When I was 19-22 I was weak af and worked out a lot for less gains. These days, it’s really easy for me to put on muscle mass. The people I know who are in bad shape now are there because they spent too much of their early 20s binge drinking and doing unhealthy things.

>got caught shoplifting at 22

Hope it was worth it

>be alcoholic
>can't join anything
>get depressed
>alcohol is back

Even at 21 I was older than most recruits in boot. Unless you peaked in high school and act like a underage faggot you will feel a little out of place. Just hang out with your age group and it wont be too bad.

and you're not so big.
