I want to watch a good war movie, preferably from the Vietnam era. I realize this should be on /tv/ but they'll only give me stupid pop culture movies.
So far I've watched: >The Deer Hunter Idiotic movie, director obviously had a hard-on for Russian roulette, and none of it is realistic, you get about 1 hour of wedding and 15 minutes of combat >Apocalypse Now Kinda good on the whole but the ending is idiotic, Sheen's blank stare is annoying and I doubt it's realistic >Full Metal Jacket Few good scenes but overall a terrible propaganda-tier movie
Can someone tell me about a good fucking Vietnam movie?
We Were Soldiers, ffw through the garbage homefront family/racial shit, though

Anyways op, I know vietnam movies are kind of difficult to find, and everybody named the ones I was gonna name, so ill give you a book.

"The things they carried"
Its a page turner, It will go quick I promise.
Sebastian Scott
That one was ok. The one where he fights Russian spetznaz and that love scene with the slav twins was perfection.
Bentley Robinson
No. The one when he's all burnt out and drunk. Takes a body guard job in Mexico. Befriends the little girl who gets kidnapped and he goes full retard on the Mexican mafia.

PATRICIAN TASTE
Isaiah Sanders
The Thin Red Line if you want something with metaphysical undertones.
Isaiah Sullivan
Burt Reynolds was fantastic in that movie.
Leo Bennett
So much bad taste in single post.
Charge in the end is pretty bad and quite fictional. Other than that it is pretty good movie and one of few movies about Vietnam war that isn't political. Real ending of the battle would have been far more powerful than what they came up with. Basically US didn't make any charge from LZ X-ray, Vietnamese pulled off after coming to conclusion that causing extra US casualties on LZ X-ray isn't worth the cost in casualties they were taking. They also completely ignored the shit that happened next morning in LZ Albany, Americans kinda tried to ambush retreating Vietnamese, but they weren't fast enough secure LZ and were completely overran by Vietnamese. Whole thing devolved into hand to hand combat that was bombed by US CAS planes indiscriminately.
It is also worth mentioning air support for battle of Ia Drang consisted of 750 sorties, about 100 of those were made with B-52's.
