San luis valley wont be developed anytime soon so you wont be netting any returns. I bought a Ruger AR-556 MPR and it's short stroking like hell. It's almost like Ruger has no QC at all.

The gun is clearly undergassed and because I'm a yuropoor I have to send it back to importer instead of Ruger to see if they can do anything about it.

I tried lighter buffer spring and the gun works significantly better but still fails to lock bolt open on last round with weaker ammo and it's summer season here so in winter it's going to work much worse.

If you haven't yet, pull the gas block and make sure its positioned over the port correctly. If it is, then its dead simple to open it up even with a hand drill, just have a cleaning rod in the bore to keep you from jamming into the opposite side of the rifling.

MK12 which is also rifle length gas on an 18" calls for 0.100-0.105" port size so that would be a good size to shoot for.

Gas block alignment (if it's wrong the gun gets less gas) and size of the gas port. I suspect Ruger used gas port size suitable for 20" barrel with rifle lenght gas system in Ruger MPR which has 18" barrel with rifle length gas system.

You can also install adjustable gas block, light weight BCG, different buffer weights etc. Unless you are running a milspec overgassed rifle ARs are a fucking mess when it comes to reliability.
