do you just want to hit metal from far away, or do you want to go through the math and hundreds of hours of practice?
He probably just wants to ping metal. That being said a 1/2in 6.5mememore is going to open up just like 308 @ 600y/m plus.
thank you I appreciate all the resources
math and hundreds of hours of practice, after a recent movement in jobs I have much more free time than before and quite a comfy salary so its something im willing to put lots of time and money into

how much
what range
what target(s)
how much do you like recoil
I know the Ruger Precision Rifle in 6.5 creedmoor is said to be babby's first long range gun, nowadays.
Nope. It still opens up Moby.
Why would you want math and hundreds of hours of practice if hitting the metal from far away is possible without it?
>socom adopted 6.5 because it's a meme
>socom adopted 6.5 because
They have to spend the more money than the previous year to get a larger budget. Not saying it isn't a good round. Saying it opens ups like every other round. Also selection "for testing' isn't adoption.
Depends on what you define as Long range, your Budget and your inteded target.
Lowish Budget:
Savage 10 variant or Ruger precision rifle or Tikka TAC A1 in a 6.5 caliber of choice
Medium Budget:
Trued factory 700 or custom Action
Match Barrel in 6XC
Stock or Chassis of choice
High Budget / I really hate that elk 1500 yard that direction:
qualtiy Rifle in .338 Lapua Magnum, top of the line scope
I'd rather be Shooting a howitzer and have the Money to supoprt it / Hajis with technicals planting IEDs 2000 Yards out:
Steyr HS50
Once you git gud at killing paper at 1k yards pls don't dive headfirst into trying to hunt at that range without a real idea of what velocities the bullet you're shooting is going to actually be effective at.
Generally you'll be focusing around relatively low impact velocities, so frangibles are king. Stay away from lead-free and controlled expansion stuff unless you like icepicking and slow kills.
>inb4 "hurrr then don't miss that 6" kill zone at 800 yards while the wind won't stop changing direction and speed."
Balancing availability, barrel life, and cartridge potential, what makes more sense as a noob: 6.5CM or .243?
There are both manual (paper) ballistic calculators and digital ones. There are ones that you can download for your phone and are actually pretty good, it will give you the drop you need. You should not have to do any quick maths. The most difficult part of shooting long range is reading the wind which comes from experience.
Drop charts are a good thing to get into the habit of making. Pulling out your phone to call up a firing solution isn't the most practical thing in the world if you're in any kind of time-stress environment.

dont get a meme round
Notbut 2600 in to rifle and optic.
2000+ rounds at 75-90 cents a round for good decent factory match ammo.
250 for a good AR 550 12x16 gong and 2x2's.
450 for a sig kilo 2000 range finder.
300 for cheap 20-60 spotting scope.
Range between 500 and 1400 yards. Normal distance is 900 and 1200 yards.
