AC-130

Why is the AC-130 so fucking cool

What madman came up with the idea of putting a fucking howitzer on a cargo plane

I love this gunship

It's a shame the AC-130's are all being altered to remove one of their guns.

They should make one with 3 howitzers

The thought of one of these blowing away 2-300 russian mercs a couple months ago makes me giggle. imagine trying to find cover when you have all that shit raining down on you and you were too stupid/poor/drunk to bring any real AA systems.

Attached: maxresdefault[1].jpg (1920x1275, 321K)

seriously. look at this shit man.

Sweede cucks stopped making bofos cannons so we can’t do rhat anymore.

Which gun are they taking out? I know they tested a laser on a C-130 a few years ago that was able to disable a truck. How much longer before they have one of those operational you think? Imagine if the designers of the C-130 back in the 50s would think if they saw it still being used as an airborne laser platform 80 years later.

Attached: Airborne-laser[1].jpg (2210x1050, 182K)

They're keeping the 105mm hotwizter, but they're removing the 25mm and 40mm guns and replacing them with a single 30mm gun.

In exchange, the plane is getting a "gunslinger" tube that they can fire rockets out of. I don't know where this is mounted but if it's mounted on the side that's kinda cool I guess. Also they're putting missile mounts on the wings and something about firing glide bombs.

In my opinion though, the more cannons sticking out the side of the plane the cooler it is.

Attached: 5602163214_653a2070ce_b[1].jpg (1000x667, 241K)

Reads more like they're just testing new variants without them, rather than replacing the base models that do.

>ywn decorate your plane with how many people you've killed

Attached: death angel.jpg (800x534, 49K)

>russian AA is flawle-

how do they know exactly how many?

Well user you get a pretty good view of your results loitering safely above your targets with high magnification FLIR

I mean with the infrared vision and other shit I think they know everytime they splatter some guys guts all over the place.

muh dickkk

Attached: AC-130U-89-1052-KAEX-21Nov2011[1].jpg (1600x1067, 292K)

but what if you fire at a big crowd? how would you know exactly how many there were unless someone specified it for you?

by watching them explode on the targeting camera.

I'm in love with this aircraft. I've never seen a C-130 that looked mean like that. I love it.

Instant replay on the kill shot. Where do you think all those cool videos of hajis running as the 30mm chased them down came from. Gun cameras were a thing in WWII.

be honest with me Jow Forums

how badly do you want an AC-5 Galaxy

Attached: qFIA14G[1].jpg (1600x1085, 537K)

That's pretty much getting to Ace Combat tier right there.

if given the choice, i dont know if i'd rather fly A-10's or AC-130's

close-air support is such a cool role, I wish the military invested more into it.

Ayyyy a Square D KC-135, fuck that bird. Piece of shit.

I can't even imagine the feeling of knowing one of these is on the battlefield, on both sides. Being pinned down by small arms just to have this thing come in and do a gun run. Then you have the other side, seeing Habib in the hut 100m from you get wiped off the face of the Earth, knowing you're probably next.

give me ONE good reason why we shouldn't have AC-5's with twenty 105mm hotiwzers on the side

protip: YOU CANT

>I wish the military invested more into it
>invested more

oh you

yeah like more CAS-only platforms

and the best part is AC-130's mostly only fly at night

So it's pitch-black outside, you hear the distant humming an AC-130's propellers circling around you, and then explosions start going off all around you. And not only that, but you know the crew of the AC-130 has a crystal-clear infrared view of you on their camera so you can't hide.

I'd rather an A400M modified for carpet bombing

Attached: 810209541-airbus-a400m-1EcQDC0T9GNG.jpg (1000x563, 43K)

the problem is probably that 40mm shells are being used up

thedrive.com/the-war-zone/16523/the-usaf-is-rebuilding-world-war-ii-era-40mm-shells-for-its-ac-130u-gunships

they're literally still using shells made in WWII

... not that im complaining, i think it's cool

Weight, both total mass and Distribution
recoil

pfft, ac-5 laughs at your puny concerns

military.com/video/aircraft/gunships/ac-130-gunship-lights-up-the-night/658552061001

this is a neat video. they use a laser on a spot and an AC-130 and UH-60 immediately pound the exact spot

>and something about firing glide bombs.
The glide bombs go out the back.

Working inside an AC-130 must be total shit

>DUDE RELOAD LMAO

why don't the towelheads go full Predator mode and smear thick mud all over themselves

and you're suffocating on gunpowder fumes probably

not a downside if you're a true Jow Forumsommando

>he doesn't want to fly around feeding the guns of hell
get a load of this fag

they must have had a bunch of guns just lyin around and some guy thought "what if we put 'em on a plane" and thus, the ac-130 was born.
the man's name? Albert Einstein.

Just gonna let you think about that for a minute son.

I'd much rather be the person who gets to sit around and pilot a drone using x-box controllers.

It's a shame the shifts suck ass and the technology they use basically forces you to sit miserably while a whole lot of nothing happens 99% of the time.

how about a CAS Ekranoplan

basically it flies a few inches above the ground and has giant spinning blades under it, kinda of like a lawmower but with more swinging maces and other sharp objects

We still make em, just not the WW2 L60 variant you use. Switch to the L70 like all other nations have and there would be no problem.

>No good apache or ac130 games out yet.

hopefully we get one soon. CAS is fucking sick

>cover self in mud
> sun bakes it to my body

>american gunner uses a 105mm on my dumb ass and I get evaporated

As much as I love CAS nothing will compare to the sheer stupid levels of firepower that a squadron of bombers can carpet bomb out.

an old car windshield would work better

Good to see some AF's are allowed to paint kill marks again. RCAF, RAF, and other pussy places removed that because "offensive"

I have a million things to say but at this point its pointless. God save the King, and England too at this rate.

Any clue when they got b&?

No idea, but I can imagine many a pilot and crew watching tearfully as they're forced to have them scrubbed off to avoided offending people.

I think it signifies Infantry strikes, not an actual number of enemy destroyed.

That's where it's at. Some user on here a couple years ago had a HS teacher that used to fly these. Apparently they'd draw with wax pencils on the windscreen a crosshair

Old mate was decapitated by shrapnel. Cry more Muhammad.

it was a joke. calm down autist

Is there a guy specially sitting beside the screen to note down how many kills were made? It seems unlikely they could remember all kills made.

those were little birds you dimwit

the gun camera footage is recorded and viewed later.

i played this game as a kid, i want to buy it again to see if is holds up to my memories

>2-300 russian mercs
post an obituary of one of them

“Even crude grease pencil crosshairs were quickly discovered to enable a pilot flying in a pylon turn to hit a stationary area target with relative accuracy and ease.”

The first spooky was a C-131b with one mini gun, and grease paint crosshairs.

Do Russian soldiers have names? I thought Putin’s was 3D printing them now.

>What madman came up with the idea of putting a fucking howitzer on a cargo plane

Giovanni Casiraghi, although technically it was a bomber, not a cargo plane.

The Italians did something similar in the second world war, stuck a rebored 90mm (up to 102mm) gun in a Piaggio P.108.

Could you load them up with 6 rocket troops and 2 snipers?

Took me a while to get it. Well done user

Attached: ezgif.com-rotate.gif (320x180, 846K)

Well, after killing a bunch, and after you run out of ammo, you count the dead ones.

Or the pieces of dead on anyway. It's a hadji jigsaw puzzle.

Oh yeah, forgot about them flying into pieces.

?
The first AC-47s had to draw the crosshair on the window before they could salvage some WW2 era gunsights for them

I watched some guncam footage from one from Vietnam and you can tell what type clothes the guy was wearing and whether or not he was wearing shoes or sandals. They can see that through dense cloud cover in the middle of the night.

They're trying to do a similar thing with the Osprey, called the Harvest Hawk program. It will be neat to see whether it actually becomes a viable CAS or strike platform or if it figures out a way to send a 105mm through its own rotors

Can someone explain which C-130 has which and what munitions are launched out of these respectively?

I never understood the point of it. I mean why not just use a bomber?
