it helps when making a general that you post in the old general, and link the new general, it also helps to keep a style going as to have a set way the general is posted. this is why /arg/ and /hg/ have been around so long, obviously /arg/ a lot longer, but you get my drift?

/brg/ dies and is gone so often because the few of you that regularly post have no direction or drive.

At work and I don't have time to go through and find the link to the previous general. I've also been on Jow Forums longer than /arg/ and /akg/. So start posting battle rifles or git out.

What would be more sensible to buy in the near-ish future: a PTR-91 or an Arsenal SLR-106?

Attached: 1527171617216.jpg (887x960, 120K)

My vote is PTR, but that's because I'm biased to those rifles. Also mags are dirt cheap and shooting real fucking NATO at things is better than smol wimpy intermediate rounds.

First for c308s are perfectly fine rifles for 500

They aren't half bad, but for a few hundred more you get PTR.

My draw to the PTR was the cheap mags and getting a Training bolt to use with that DAG plastic ammo.

6-10 dollars mags is a good selling point

If you feel like being a dirty whore you can get them from cheaper than dirt for $4.06 atm.

Best rifle for someone looking to graduate from intermediate calibers? Are any manlet- friendly?

Good to know they are back to being dumb cheap. I have 40 already, so I think I'm good.
All the battle rifles weigh roughly about the same except the PTR to an extent. Even then I'm 5'7" and I handle it and the fal just the same. Cost is also a factor too I guess.

Lightest non-shit one under 1200?

>I have 40 already, so I think I'm good.
Jesus. My brother was wondering why I wanted 26 (From Cheaper Than Dirt) you get free shipping if you order over a some amount and I chose that amount because on principal I would order the exact dollar amount from them over Brownells. I contacted Brownells and asked if they would be willing to price match to CTD since I would rather see my business go to someone slightly more reputable. They never got back to me so I am going to send them a follow up basically with a screencap of my order saying "sorry you had to lose out on business".

Im building a CETME at the moment, how does one put on the front sight I've seen people say you need to blowtorch the sight then put it on the barrel is this accurate

the barrel im using is the ptr 16" gi

Post FALs

Make sure you stock you stock up before they go up to $10.00 each.

Not sure to be honest, ask the Saudi Parts kit guy who posts.

Used fal, maybe a psa ar10, or say fuck it and get a PTR and deal with it.

Agreed

Kek /brg/ is a ghost town because the poverty tier rifle is a grand. Most people on Jow Forums can't afford a fucking ar15 let alone a battle rifle.

Don't fall for the plastic ammo meme. It's not fucking fun at all.

say something nice about her

Attached: shit kit.jpg (1440x1920, 348K)

I never understood why people keep saying "For a few hundred more" when talking about an decent entry level, especially since you can say it about anything. For a few hundred more than the PTR, you can get an M1a/M1 Garand, and a few hundred more on top of that you can get a used Scar, and a few hundred more you can get a new Scar, and a few hundred more...

its 308 at least

Well there's not much in the way of M14 , G3, and SCAR variation so it's mostly on the FAL or AR-10 guys to carry the thread.

thanks tompkins

Do rifle caliber bullpups qualify as battle rifles

Follow up question, is the MDR bad

Attached: 1415565922115.gif (500x275, 94K)

Doesn't stop being a battle rifle with a different configuration. Don't know jack about the MDR though, sorry.

lol, how many broken windows in that glass house of yours user?
the BR is, for the most part, vintage. its major era has passed. like classic cars, full power service rifles are still cool and sought after. mostly driven on nice occasions

Attached: scares the UN.jpg (2968x2384, 1.77M)

You have a MDR? Nice, I love the look of Bullpups and I have heard good things about the MDR.

How so? Tell me about it?

Because all entry level battle rifles run about $800+accessories with the exception of the C308. With it being a century product and those rifles having known issues why not buy something 200-300 bucks more and not chance it. It's would be same as getting an ak made by IO and comparing it to an entry level Arsenal ak. Owning and feeding a battle rifle, let alone multiple rifles is pricey and with the manufacturers being limited and parts as scarce as they are you pay for shit not to break. With PTR's and lower end AR10's being the entry level and Fal's Scar's, odball Valmet's and Galil's being the more expensive it's a wide spectrum of cost that is overall more expensive than ak's and ar's. Owning these things is a labor of love. When the last intermediate round is shot, real full fucking NATO will be at your side to repel commies, jamals, and all the other things you can Imagine.

Hope that explains it.

I'm still sad that nobody shooped an M14 onto Bert's other side She might not of been the best but she deserves recognition as one of the originals. Oh and also point well made my friend.

Naw I just want a rifle caliber semi auto and it may be the one I pursue.

what other rifle systems exist that have used G3 mags?
it seems like a huge selling point of any platform if it can use cheap available magazines

Some company made an AR-10 that used G3 mags.
Didn't take off and they are hard to find now.

For the most part, yes, but of curiosity, are there any reputable reports of malfunctions from the newer C308's with parts from PTR? Every time when this is brought up, people keep referencing the one slam fire from the Late Boyscout but don't mention the fact that his firearm was used by multiple people testing it before. From what I've seen and heard, the canted sights and magwells that some people reference only pertain to the older CETME's and their customer service has improved to the point where they'll take care of any issues with no hassle.
And to go off on a tangent and this isn't targeting you in particular, but why do people say you can buy an AR for ~$500 from brand X, but when the second you say you've bought that brand X AR the same people go on a rant on how need to upgrade certain parts for it to be reliable, making the new rifle cost over a grand? Doesn't the same apply towards an AR-10, where you can buy an entry level for around $600-$700, but many people say you still need to spend a few hundred to upgrade some of the internals to make it safe and/or reliable? I'm not going say that a C308 is the greatest battle rifle, but you can still get a good, reliable semi-auto .308 that runs well out-of-the box for $600.
And yes, I completely agree that
>BATTLE RIFLES ARE LOVE
>BATTLE RIFLES ARE LIFE

Attached: 7anhalv9td8y.jpg (750x526, 57K)

>I have 40 already
Is that all?
I bought 100 online so I could get them for $1.50 a piece. Then add on a 20% coupon and after shipping I ended up paying like $1.51 a mag.

Is there anything the sage stock does better than slapping a scope and fiberglass stock on it à la M21? I'm still trying to understand the rationale behind it.

Attached: 1519077638486.jpg (2840x1910, 1.51M)

>but why do people say you can buy an AR for ~$500 from brand X, but when the second you say you've bought that brand X AR the same people go on a rant on how need to upgrade certain parts for it to be reliable
because people are dumb, you should quit listening to them
as for ar10/lr308s, either buy a complete or roll the dice parting it out

>CMMG
>$500 MSRP
>Only the lower
>Requires modification to the upper
fuck
it was worth an ask, I suppose

Look up shaved bolt heads, bad bolt gap, poor finishes on the rifle, spotty welds, bulged receivers. They are all issues that have been reported with C308's. If they had less hiccups like the seem to now, cool. But everyone I've seen in person at the range just doesn't seem as nice or has something goofy with it.

HEY DON'T RUB IT IN
WAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH

If it's cheap and it works who cares? If it's cheap and it works with a bit of work. Understandable. If it's cheap and it's a turd. That's a problem.

Attached: 20180429_233509.jpg (4032x2268, 2.24M)

>They are all issues that have been reported with C308's.
I agree that the finish is rather shitty, but in the firearm's defense it is mostly cosmetic, at least to the point where I've never heard of the welds breaking under serious use.
>But everyone I've seen in person at the range just doesn't seem as nice or has something goofy with it.
Fair enough. For everyone else, I would caution anyone who wants a C308 to look at it in person before buying and avoid buying online; if you look over everything correctly (like the bolt) then you can get a good battle rifle at a good price. As you said,
>If it's cheap and it works who cares?

That's exactly the point. C308's are going for 5-7 hundred. Ptr's start at $800. Why chance it? But I agree if they work they work. But my point still stands for a marginal cost increase you get a better product.

Yep, all of it has to do with price. It's a good price $600 or $700, but if I can get an equivalent PTR for an extra $100, then I'd go with that, if only for that extra piece of mind in the quality of its' finish. Though I remember last year C308's were going for around $450 with ten magazines. I should have got one when it was at that price.

Gladly. I love my L1A1.

Do L1A1s offer really anything over a metric FAL? The wood stocks look sexy as hell but I'm going to have a hard time convincing myself to get one if they're effectively identical to my DSA.

I don’t know. I snapped it up because it was an all-matching-not-built-on-a-kit Britbong, and it looked immaculate.

which direction do I turn a FAL front sight to adjust it down? Clockwise or counterclockwise?

I have Stg.58 with longer flash suppressor, does the shorter flash suppressor fit, i checked it has 9/16 LH thread.
