Where does Jow Forums get their reactive targets from? A friend of mine was telling me to go to ebay for ar500 but then after a few rounds of 7.62Nato at 100 yards his target looked worse than this. I really dont want to waste my money on something that is pot metal.
Where does Jow Forums get their reactive targets from...
Got mine at xsteeltargets.com. Shot the 1/2” AR500 at 25 yards with a .204 ruger (4000fps muzzle velocity) just to fuck with it and see how itd handle a worse case, then some .308. Pitted a bit but when used at the recommended range of 100yds theres 0 damage just a lead splatter. I dont know if it was good or bad pricing and have no experience with other brands.
Train tracks.
Wherever. I'm not poor.
XSteel on right. Dont have a picture of it after being shot.
fuck thats a solid idea
i make my own.
i work in Aerospace and the company i work for scrap's a 6Al 4V 0.062in titanium plate every day.(forming makes 2 per hit, they only need 1)
SO i stack a few and weld them together and shoot em.
6AL when heat treated is basically the strongest metal around.
it deflected some 30-06 surplus armor penetrating black tips i had
A table at the local gunshow has them. so theyre my go-to every now and then
also for fun when its watermelon season and shitty store brand 2 liters from Winco
also, a few guys I work with used to make the B2 bomber wings.
they always had left over composite pieces that were perfect for shooting.
no one knows what they were made from, but nothing short of 300win mag could even dent those plates.
inconel?
ceramic?
Anal?
>inconel?
no, they weren't metal./
i work with Inconel everyday, soi i know 625 or 718 when i see it.
>ceramic?
maybe, IDK
if i knew the DOD would probably kill me
But that's theft
Spray painted bits of leaf spring, dont have a picture, but did it once and .223 and .243 bounced off at 150m
I always thought they were super secret and not very tasty sandwiches, is it all one material? and how much does it weigh?
>it's theft
>mfw
Alls I'm goin to say is the gongs on my range are old drainage manhole covers. 300 yds
No it isn't, steel is much stronger still, just heavier. The advantage of titanium is that it is an excellent spring steel
Maybe it's not a good idea to use a leaf spring against bullets... You know, so they don't come back...
are your bullets not made of lead?
If you haven't had a ricochet you haven't been shooting long enough
*Not spring steel... That is inherently a misnomer. I meant to say titanium makes excellent flexures
holy shit you got sold fake AR500 that's hilarious. you should report him to ebay.
Never had any other then .22 and .177 ricochet, then again only non hunting stuff I do with centre fires is zeroing. Wouldnt worry about it anywho, just have the springs hanging and dont shoot them at point blank and you'll be fine. Ricochets are fudd lore anyway, exploded testicle at most.
Thanks for confessing a crime. Every little bit helps in taking this site down
Worst ricochets I have had were pistol round copper jackets off of steel targets and birdshot off of bowling pins. Didn't know the bowling pin thing would happen but basically imagine being hit by an airsoft gun except many times all at once
When i shoot bees with ratshot in the barn they come back and hit my face often, i wear glasses tho
Well bowling pins are 90% epoxy
Pretty much everything else will get stuck in or if powerful enough, go through the pins but birdshot seems to not workout
Bowling pins are fun as fuck to shoot though (just with other rounds)
you using steel ball or something? I can see how that will pop an eyeball/testy
Bought two 3/8" AR550 from shootsteel last year when they had a sale on them for ~$70 a piece and built my own stands. Got 2 steel targets and 2 paper target stands for about $240 after everything. I just got back from shooting a few hours ago, so here's some fresh 9mm (left) at 10-25 yards and 7.62x39 at 200.
Of course forgot pic.
Set them up to be like the close range rifle targets (30 degrees) they sell for $300 a piece, so I'm happy with them.
How thick? How light?
While were on the subject, this is an ebay target. It was shot with both 7.62x51 and m855 at 100yards. Should it have craters like this if its true ar500?
The damage looks excessive for 100 yards, if that was at 25 yards it would be more believable. Me thinks youve been had.
I agree with this, but it's not all bad. if it were really soft steel, those would be much bigger craters from 7.62 NATO. I'd suggest keeping the plate but using it only for handguns.
Farm and computer scrap. I work in both businesses and there's no shortage of good targets.
The only cartridge I've found that hurts the thicker stuff is 556 because of the speed. It laughs off 308 and steel cored 54r.
