Does anyone make a true high quality revolver anymore?
Smith and wesson, Hillary hole, canted barrels, grips that are not fitted correctly....
Colts new cobra.......... charter arms.
Ruger? Gp101 no. Gp100 no. Redhawk?
Italian colt clones are shit honestly too.
The only nice revolvers are in the used market with ever growing prices. Any gun manufacturers make a decent gun on par with the revolvers made pre 90s?
If you don't give a shit about aesthetics, and if you absolutely must have a new production gun, then for an American, Rugers are probably the way to go. I am interested in seeing one of those CZ Alfa guns though. Not much info about them.
Cameron Martin
I'm thinking about picking up a SW made in 1992. Are the SW made in the 90s shit? Can't find an older one.
Whats wrong with it
Isaac Sullivan
90s S&W are generally great compared to what they are shitting out today. The bad ones from then have been mostly weeded out by now.
Alexander Robinson
Thanks user, hopefully I can win this auction and pick it up
Is this a stealthy “just get a Colt Cobra” thread? Because you should just get a Cobra.
Ethan Bell
Manurhin MR-73 They're currently out of production, although a small batch of surplus guns came in. They're banged up but functional.
Ironically Manurhin went to a Ruger based design because it's cheaper, easier to tune and has potential to be extremely durable under prolonged heavy use. Of course they're way better fitted and more expensive than a Ruger.
The French love Ruger for some reason.
Bentley Miller
MR-73s are still in production and can be imported into the US.
Is Ruger Still anti-gun? Their old owner was a fucking cuck, but has the company changed? I wanted to buy some of their stuff but I refuse to buy from anti-gun companies. Even MossBERG put out that letter slamming 2nd amendment infringing scumbags.
Bill Ruger was the asshole and he's dead. Modern Ruger is based as fuck.
Ethan Baker
I want to add to this that pretty much no matter who you buy from if you want a top notch wheelgat trigger you're going to be doing some work yourself. Internal polishing, spring changes and possibly shims. The only revolver I own that I didn't have to do any work to was my Colt SAA. My experience has been that Rugers take a little more work than S&Ws but they slick up real nice just the same.
Tyler Wood
Ruger (the company) turned all that shit around before Bill's corpse was cold.
Brandon Edwards
Mossberg are swedes, not ((())).
Landon Howard
>Italian colt clones are shit honestly too. >t. mad about cheap pietta
Kayden Lee
I bet you're the kind of retarded faggot who thinks that a pistol buffer is inferior on an AR because it's smaller
S&W are slipping, new revolvers have burrs and marks. Hillary Holes are ugly but don't matter.
Ruger makes solid stuff but it isn't exactly pretty.
Taurus is a joke.
David Howard
>Taurus is a joke.
The joke is that while S&W has been slipping Taurus has been getting better. Their QC is still spotty so you have to check that shit but their reputation has been mended somewhat in the last couple of years.
Noah Rogers
I don't believe it
Julian Howard
What about the new Kimber snubbies? Expensive but they look tits. Anyone have one or held one?
If colt can put a 4” barrel on the cobra and chamber it in 357..... then yes.
Sebastian Lewis
True true. I’ve inspected more than a few smiths and wow, it’s pretty bad. Might reconsider funky framed ruger. I just hate how the gun moves with those factory rubber grips if you apply force the the gun while gripping.
William Turner
>Taurus is a joke. I like their 85 snub, pretty solid gun. Really the only gun in its class too, since the SP101 is too heavy for what it is, and the Smith all-steel J-Frames are way too pricey for what they are.
Dylan Flores
>I just hate how the gun moves with those factory rubber grips if you apply force the the gun while gripping.
Say what now? I have an sp101 and my grips are solid. There's no give no matter how hard I squeeze.
James Richardson
Here, Faggot. Maybe this will satisfy your autism.
Why the hell did they have to put that billboard on the side of an otherwise decent looking gun? It'd be almost downright attractive without that obnoxious wording on the barrel. It's like a hideous tattoo on an attractive chick.
Charles Johnson
I agree, but it's a small tradeoff for a wheelgun that handles like a dream and is as durable as a fucking brick for 700 bucks
Landon Rogers
Haven't had a chance to shoot one yet, but I handled one at a gunstore not too long ago. It's chunky for it's size. But seemed to be of decent build quality. Wish they'd offer a model that has a 3 inch barrel and exposed hammer.
Jonathan Lopez
If you're willing to shell out the cash, buy a Manurhin MR73.
Ryder Rivera
Habeeb it
Hunter Williams
It isn't that deep and files and polishes off pretty nicely at least on stainless models.
>Does anyone make a true high quality revolver anymore? Not as far as I'm concerned. Just pick the caliber you want and bite the bullet and get an old Colt or S&W.
Alexander Peterson
Right...I'm sure thats a REAL problem. Anyway there are about a billion options for new grips
Christopher Powell
Ah yes nighthawk, the custom maker that held the reputation for worst qc amongst custom makers for the longest time
Carson Butler
They just rebrand Korth-made guns. I dunno why Korth needs help selling their shit to richfags.
Bentley King
>being autistic about text on a gun You’re one of those brainlets that bitch about Berettas also, aren’t you?
Juan Scott
Oh wow I didn't know that. It actually brightens my day quite a bit. I've always wanted an MR-73 (maybe not even new, just in good shape), so if they're still being made and imported it's actually an achievable goal.
Jack Bell
Fingerfucked one at a local store and was surprised at how light the double action trigger was. It's a damn nice trigger. Can't comment on the quality or reliabilty.
CZ makes the Dan Wesson or you can go Korth or Manurihin. Kimber has a new one as well.
Jonathan Green
That''s good to know, might be worth giving it a second look. No actually I've got no complaints about Beretta. For all the hate of the slide mounted safety, the 92 series guns are still some of the most attractive production semi-autos on the market. Also as far as I'm concerned, O/U shotguns are unmatched in aesthetics. Maybe you disagree, almost like it's a preference thing or something. Pic related is an SP-101 Match Champion. Same company, same type of action enhancement, same intended market. Notice however how much cleaner the gun looks without the gaudy advertising on the side? Part of owning a revolver like that (for me at least, though I'd wager many others as well) is the looks. Looks directly contribute to pride of ownership. I don't want or need another ugly gun, and to me it screws up the looks. I'm sure it shoots perfectly fine, and I'm sure plenty of people own them and love shooting them. But me, I've got plenty of other ugly guns that at least make up for it by being practical for day to day carry and use. No I doubt anyone is ever gonna take any Ruger and make it a safe queen like you would a classic Colt, or even a Smith, but if it's a gun that's mostly going to see range use or maybe used in competition I'd like for it to looks nice The SP-101 managed to do it perfectly fine, there's no reason the GP-100 couldn't do the same.
>I doubt anyone is ever gonna take any Ruger and make it a safe queen like you would a classic Colt, or even a Smith Why not. Almost done polishing up my SP101 and I think it looks just as good as my SW 15-3. Still have to do the cylinder.
Nice. You doing that by hand? What polish are you using?
Noah Rivera
Thanks. Just Mother's Mag polish and some old t-shirts. Takes a fuck ton of time to get a mirror shine on it though.
Connor Ramirez
Yeah that's the kind of shit where you put on a movie and just polish away.
Camden Rodriguez
Exactly. Hopefully I can get this shit done with this week because im getting pretty tired of polishing
Connor Peterson
I stand corrected that is a damn fine looking revolver. What I meant is that the debate seems to mostly boil down (today at least) to Smith vs Ruger. The common consensus seems to be the Ruger is more the blue collar working man's revolver while Smith's have more of a collector's value (at least the older ones. The newer ones I can easily see the argument how they aren't much if any "better" than a Ruger). That one however definitely is a bit of an exception to what you'd typically expect when you think of a typical Ruger.
Adam Watson
The only Smiths with collector value are pre-lock guns and that's because they aren't made anymore(except for a couple of j-frames). If Ruger retired the Redhawk or something those guns would become collectible.
Nicholas Mitchell
>If Ruger retired the Redhawk or something those guns would become collectible. I'm not so sure about that. As far as I know, Ruger's discontinued guns aren't particularly valuable collectors items.
Asher Reyes
Lurk more. Faggots around here shill for the six-series guns all the time.
Joshua Fisher
I know about the six series and that people like them, but I've never checked the prices on them. Are they actually selling for a decent price?
Cameron Garcia
There's a lot of truth behind what you're saying, but new Smith's generally don't have problems (canted barrels are very rare and if you say something to the company, I guarantee they'll fix it for free or send you a good one). BUT it's true, the Hillary holes ARE an eyesore.
Ruger makes a solid revolver, BUT aesthetics leave something to be desired. If you're going for .357, honestly the frame is autistically overbuilt (but it can handle ultra high pressured loads).
I'm gonna get a .357 soon, and I'm just gonna shoot for an old Smith Model 19 or Model 66. The prices are still decent enough, you can get one in excellent shape if you look around a bit. As I see it, I'd gladly pay 600 for a pre-Hillary hole Smith in great shape.
The problem isn't as bad as you think. Critics are always super vocal and people happy with your firearm are less likely to rave than critics are to bitch. Rugers and Smith both make a quality firearm these days. Though, I personally greatly prefer the Smith looks and Ruger, despite making a solid revolver still has a somewhat tarnished reputation because they're primarily known as a brand for economy semi-autos with a crap finish.
Landon Lopez
It's sort of forgotten now, but Colt was basically seen as the Cadillac of Revolvers even when they produced them. They didn't produce that many and the price tag was generally 50% more than a comparable Smith model. Their scarcity and high price point when they were new made them *highly valuable* collectors items when they were discontinued.
If Ruger ever discontinued their revolvers, they'd be seen about like an old Smith. A great gun, but not worth a top dollar price tag. They'd probably be fetching about 600 used for a good one.
Eli Perry
Korth does. Prepare you butthole though (shit's expensive AF).
Leo Wood
Rate my new revolver, guys. Later model Colt Agent. Bluing looks great, got it for a hair over $500 on Gunbroker.
Or do most of you only have one for fun or balls hot shitty summer weather where you need to conceal something.
I know a revolver will get the job done like pretty much any pistol but the reload and limited number of shots seems...I dunno. Not that reassuring when I can have 15 rounds of 9mm in one magazine and still have another 1-2 mags hidden on my person.
David Morgan
Now you need some premium grips. I like smooth Elk antler. Looks almost like Ivory and it doesn't cost $700.
I carried a M38 j-frame as my primary for many years. Never felt undergunned. World got a little more wonky and my area got more vibrant and I switched to a G19. I carry an SP101 when hiking though with the first chamber loaded with shot for snakes.
Xavier Turner
jealous/10
Liam Morris
Good valid points. I think I’ll search out a old pre lock smith. Maybe a nice deal on a colt with finish wear and send it to fords for a nice reblue
A revolver is really not a spectacular carry gun in modern times (semi auto is far superior for that purpose). Particularly if you're shooting for concealed carry. If you're sporting a 4 inch barrel or better it will be so heavy a shoulder holster is the only thing comfortable, and that requires a jacket of some sort to conceal.
I have a smith 686 and it IS my favorite gun but I gravitate towards my Glock 19 or Ruger LCP2 for concealed carry. Revolvers are great fun, a lot more fun than semi auto.... but the weight and size is less than ideal for you to be packing one around all day long. The only acception is some type of .38.... but even then, you'd be better off packing a 9mm.
If you're thinking of a revolver for your EDC, I'd say you should probably look elsewhere and strongly consider a 9mm of some sort instead.
Gavin Flores
Uneducated opinion here, so take it with a grain of salt. I hear colt revolvers aren't particularly durable so an old colt with finish wear may have some problems. Might be better to look for a cleaner one unless you can inspect it in person.
Landon Ramirez
Or just enjoy the finish wear. There's something about a properly worn gun that's still mechanically excellent....
Ryder Rogers
Great deal!
Andrew Diaz
Got it. So revolvers will remain fun-guns and maybe a hiking gun I suppose.
Shame cause I do like that they conceal easy and they're all metal (Just not a fan of polymer) Guess my search for something else continues
Jace Rogers
Look bro any gun you can hit with is good for CCW. Don't let others choices influence you.
Dominic Wilson
I would just rule out Colt entirely unless if you have a job making the big bucks and money is never an issue in your life. Smith is really every bit as good and in many ways superior when it comes to mechanical reliability. Seriously, Colt is actually quite a bit more prone to have issues and quite a bit more expensive to fix. Not to mention when you've just shelled out about 2k on a status symbol firearm... do you really want to take it to the range regular and cause more wear and tear? It's like buying a top dollar car.... usually it's just gonna stay in the garage.
Pre lock smiths are simply the best option for revolvers. Unless if you're the type of guy who wants to shell out 3X as much money for a status symbol.
Christian Campbell
I know, but I also want something that won't be a bother/uncomfortable to carry. Which sucks cause all my favourite pistols are full size. During the day it's been regularly hitting at least 85 here
Lucas Ross
All metal guns are far more aesthetic.... but try carrying one on you all day. Particularly if you have a physical job on your feet. It will change the way you feel about polymers. The best carry guns are rarely the best aesthetic guns.
Bentley Morgan
So what revolver should a total noob like myself get? Looking for a .357 but I'm not too picky. Don't want to shell out money for a GP100 if I don't even like the type of gun itself. Also it'd for the most part be used as a plinker/range toy, not into hunting yet.
Landon Martin
Carrying a gun is supposed to be comforting....not comfortable. That being said if all I had was a j-frame size .38 I'd still be comforted. ANY gun is better than no gun. If all you will carry is a small revolver because it's comfortable for you that's better than having 500 guns at home you never carry because they suck to wear.
Nolan Martinez
Freedom Arms.
Evan Long
Well, get the full size pistols you want.... but forget about trying to conceal one. A full size will leave a print from hell unless if you're wearing bulky winter clothing.
It's rare that your concealed carry gun is your favorite gun.... concealed carry is best being some compact/subcompact polymer type semi auto.
Eli Gray
If you think a GP100 is too expensive revolvers probably aren't for you mate.
Joseph Peterson
Used SW Model 10 or 15. Large frame revolver in 38 special and usually cheap.
Aaron Gray
Live in TN so lots of people open carry However many places of employment don't want employees carrying while on the clock. My job is pretty much a lot of standing and walking, occasionally some sitting.
Very true...
Goals would be to find an all-in-one. Something in 9mm I guess, double stacked, small enough to conceal. As far as comfort goes like that other guy said, I'm just more comforted by carrying a gun of full metal/alloy/whatever. Polymer just doesn't sit well with me.
Ayden Lee
nigger just buy a J frame, Glock 26, or LCP like everyone else
