not by too much. the only real problem is that it takes longer to load and the reloading process is more finicky than a modern detachable mag semi auto or even a garand.

In what sense? That's an incredibly vague question. Militarially? Completely. Person defense? Well, you can still kill someone with 10 rounds of 7.62x39, so it's probably just fine.

also from the perspective of modern warfare it isn't fit very well for use inside of a vehicle (long, has no out of the factory option for a folding or collapsing stock, is too long).

Its obsolescent, but not obsolete.

Stripper clips are fun once you get used to them, though.

It's obsolescence has more to do with the current price of them than almost any other factor.
