So how good's the M1?
So how good's the M1?
Good enough for the DoD to issue until 1985.
It was good enough to equip the US in ww2 and it's allies going forward.
Would you recommend it for SHTF? Are there any better steel helmets available?
Any modern kevlar.
East german m56 I hear is the best steel pot but I'm pretty sure that's a meme or someshit.
Adequate at stopping shrapnel, will not stop small arms fire, 9mm can penetrate it reliably. Better than nothing, can double as a bucket or shovel in a pinch.
>meme
it has been literally designed to stop rifke rounds
Basically a construction hard hat, I wouldn't trust it to stop even a .380 but I guess it's better than nothing. If you want something for a SHTF scenario I would go with a modern kevlar helmet.
It's certainly the best looking
>It's certainly the best looking
damn right you are. today's helmets look like ass
Real good for a ringing .22 target.
.50 cal rpund ball got richocheted off because it hit just right (pic)
7.62x39 shredded it though.
Oka Crisis: Canada 1990
Is that Korea? I didn't know trench knives were used that long.
If you right click on images you can 'search google for this image' and it will tell you it's from the battle of okinawa.
So sure korea, I guess..
Big, heavy, but they look great so I guess it's good enough for SHTF
I don't what a rifke round is user.
Just kidding that's really cool though,
I can't read moon runes.
Actually, the PASGT is pretty damn good looking. Looks like the next evolution of the M1. Just make sure you get it with the ear covers, not without. And don’t put a cover on it for maximum aesthetic.
.... you fucking what?..
>for SHTF?
Don't bother unless you're planning to pick a fight with someone using a truly prodigious amount of fragmenting explosives. It won't save you from a bullet and it's nothing but extra weight. Remember just because the military used/uses something doesn't mean it's right for your purposes.
This. You're better off with a bump helmet of you want to protect your noggin in shtf.
Trench knives were used up until Vietnam if I'm not mistaken.
Wear a balaclava in SHTF you dumbass
I own one, it's pretty thin compared to a M1 or a soviet M68, I don't think it'd even stop pistol rounds unless they impacted the helmet at the angle it was designed to.
Is a helmet really all that practical a thing to have for "SHTF"? If your answer is "yes" and you're just buying something that would protect your head from injury like the M1 instead of something that would actually save your life if you got shot in the head, then you'd be a lot better off going with a modern bicycle helmet, you'd be safer and keep some of your "grey man" look.
That's not to say you shouldn't just buy a helmet if you want to own a helmet. You don't gotta justify every purchase with "the apocalypse is right around the corner and I'll definitely need this."
Skate helmets have an association with special forces (and therefor mall ninjitsu) because of Black Hawk Down so i'm not sure how well that'd work out for him if hes going 'grey man'
