So what kind of gun is it?

Hmm. Probably a single-shot muzzle-loader. I'd guess percussion, probably with a folding trigger.
My eyes are pretty shit, nowadays, but it looks like it says "CAL 22" on the back of the grip.

Can you get an impression of the engraving on the back, it looks like a company name, Blah & Blah, London.

Can we see what it looks like from the front? Looks like the grip of a pepperbox kind of thing so far.

i'd say something more along these lines.

The shape of the grip and the frame make me think it was probably a pepperbox revolver. Something like pic related.

That part jutting out on the bottom makes me think it could be a transitional revolver.

This one is made from fine German silver in 1850 this sold for $1800aud. 36 calibre fuck yeah I thought it was for percussion

This one is made out of brass, everything else was non existent and no signs of metal or rust but could of disintegrated years ago
