It's also not an AR. It wasn't designed with another type of CH in mind, then had a side charger shoe horned in.
Either get a gun designed to side charge with a non reciprocating CH, or get an AR. Never ever combine the two.

I could see the stock breaking at the hinge, but only under some weird circumstances. It locks up solid when it's extended or folded, but in transit between the two, I'd be worried if it took a serious fall.

I'm making a lightweight build, and I still need a handguard, optic, and trigger. Budget is 5-600 for these parts. Barrel is a 14 in with a pinned flash hider, so I'm looking for a ~13 in handguard. I'm oogling the faxon carbon fiber one. Optic, I like variable magnification scopes, but am partial for this build to get a red dot to save weight. Trigger I want a 2 stage and relatively cheap. Advice is appreciated.

550 is too much. Copper custom has them for cheaper and apparently even cheaper if you support the MAC ((pateron)) I missed one for 236 from a distributor. Don't think Sico will warranty it but will repair it and charge you for it.
