Aight, I'm starting to lean towards clip ons. I can't actually think of a use I'd have for this rifle during the dark, other than yote and dogman hunting, but I think COTI would do pretty damn well for that, it'd help me pierce the thick woods where I live. I think if I were to do a beam, I'd probably do it if my buddies ended up getting NODs, because if I'm solely clip on then I don't know what a beam's gonna do for me if I'm alone.

Ignore A2. He's being closeminded and hyperbolic. Red dots and magnifiers do serve a niche purpose. That purpose is an optic setup for a shorter barreled carbine that is primarily going to be used sub 350m, but that is optimized for CQB, but might get pushed out to further ranges. The bottom line though is that for any POU other than that, there are better options than a red dot and magnifier.
Nevertheless there exists a POU for which a red dot (with holds like the HS503G or Eotech EXPS3-4) and a magnifier are optimal.

Presumably the same white output as a DF, and the same IR output as a normal vampire, since I assume they'll just put the two diodes (visible and IR) next to each other and just redesign the reflector. Isn't it much in the terms of the technological development, but a large company like SF is likely to be slow through that sort of design and bringing to market process.

That does make sense. I think down the line I'd like to do a NOD/beam combo but that'll probably be on a different rifle. I mean, when I say Mk12 style, I'm not saying it's a clone or even matches the same configuration, just trying to state its intended use. It's a 20" barrel rather than 18" and I don't plan on making it extremely pointable for point shooting. Although I am trying to go for lightweight.

But hell, if 20" was good enough for GI I figure I can probably point it if I need. But since I need a good optic anyways I think I'll do the clip on route and then focus on beams later down the line.
