Why are bongs so bad at NATO competitions

Because Challenger was built for combat, not competitions.

And that means it should perform badly in competitions meant to test aspects of combat?

Just because Swedes do better than NATO troops in exercise Aurora does that mean theyre the best troops in the world?

Also Challenger has a great combat record from the Gulf and Iraq, most of the others have no combat record to speak of.

You guys forget the real thing. The tank crews. Some nations send a crew that trained specifically to do well. Some other nations send a random crew. The US does this a lot since they don't have to prove shit. Italy a few years ago sent a tank crew that was doing street patrol in Rome and calibrated the tank on the very first day of the challenge (which is why they sucked so hard on the first day).

Ty for helping me with my point. The best indication we have of how the Challenger compares with many other western MBTs is via these kinds of competitions. And time and time again, bongs and the Challenger have failed to deliver. You can’t bring combat records into a comparison of MBTs, because no modern MBT has fought anything except asymmetrical warfare. We’re comparing them with each other, not with RPGs and IEDs.

My point still stands, Challenger has a stellar combat record as does the Abrams. Regardless of who wins the competition, it is foolish to say 'because X beat the Challenger or Abrams in this competition therefore it would outperform them in combat conditions'.

If that ISNT what youre saying, then competition in relation to combat is a non sequitur, thusly its literally a case of 'my tank did well on this given competiton. Cool.'

So, in your hypothetical situation, the bench shooter should actually be running drills and mock combat scenarios, and when the two meet to compete in a different set of scenarios, and your bench shooter wins, it's only logical to assume that if the bench shooter were to go to the sandbox and level buildings, they would do a better job.

It should be obvious to anyone but the ADHD-addled teenagers Discovery makes their shows for that no competition like this could ever provide a good, relevant picture of how well various countries armored units would perform. If you want to know that you hold a big wargame exercise instead, with years of analysis following it instead of as simple point score system.

The competition is testing the competency of the crew, not the design of the tank. Hence why a majority of the participants are in Leopards.
