I really hate the "hurr durr just get a gun" circlejerk, like people on Jow Forums are so insecure that they can't just move on if a thread is asking about something they don't know anything about.

Stun guns are a gimmick, not a single one of them work like in the movies. In Hollywood, someone gets hit with a stun gun for 1 second, fall to the ground and remains unconscious for minutes. In real life, you could hold it on your balls for one hour and it still wouldn't do shit aside from a tingling sensation. They are pain compliance tool, at best, but they don't even work in that role.

Remember something, if something is completely unregulated even in the most anti-guns countries, it means politicians think it is worthless.

That's fine. I know it isn't ideal. I'm not trying to wrangle up criminals. This is for a woman to scare off a crackhead but ideally it should offer more protection than simple deterrence. I know they've killed people so I doubt it's as weak as a tingling sensation

There are some civi versions of tasers that will shock for along time. Meant to be deployed and dropped while you run. I think the company will replace them for free if you file a police report and show them.

Spray is ok but not always effective and depending on wind conditions you can hose yourself more than the assailant. Don't listen to people saying bear spray. It's usually no different than any leo oc spray sometimes weaker just in a bigger can.

What you pictured is a TASER. Thomas A. Swift Electric Rifle. That is the only one that fires probes. "Stun guns" are contact-only, and are horse shit because you should be making distance. If someone is already on you, you have failed. Tasers are still shit though for defense as a stand-alone. Cops use them because they have more options, and aren't in immediate mortal danger when deploying them. I would suggest your friend find/take a women's defense class and look into CCW if she thinks she wants a "stun gun".
