When to use deadly force?

So uhh what happens if someone comes up to your window and starts punching you or breaks your window? Can you shoot them at that point? I assume you can't just shoot the guy. I carry pepper spray, it seems like it has more utility than a gun desu.

Thoughts? I have a gun but rarely carry because most of the bad things that happen in my town are attributed to bar fights and such

where do you think you are?

Depends on your local laws assuming you're in the States.

If some one attacks you physically for no reason you’re justified in defending yourself. The level of force used is dictated by your ability to defend yourself by other means.

For instance either
> you are bigger & stronger than your attacker and can over power them
> your attacker is bigger and stronger than you and you could not over power them.
The attacker possessing a weapon negates all that.

Just drive away.

Or better yet, use one hand to grab them and leave the other hand to control the steering wheel, and then floor it.

Using a firearm for self defense should always be a last resort. However, States have different laws that define your right to self defense. If there is a serious risk of death or great bodily harm to yourself or a fellow innocent, you can use deadly force to protect human life. Most have a castle doctrine law, which means, on your property, you do not need to retreat before resorting to deadly force. If your state has some sort of duty to retreat law, for your shooting to be clear from all charges, both criminal and civil, you will need to make a retreat before resorting to deadly force. If you are being pursued, or are cornered and can not reasonably escape without the possibility of death or serious injury, you can use deadly force.
If your state has a stand your ground law, then any place you are legally allowed to be, you do not need to retreat to use deadly force, if someone threatens your life or someone else's life.
In this case, It's hard to say. Your best bet would be to immediately exit the car and back away. If he keeps attacking your car, stay back. You can not use deadly force to defend property. If you attack him to stop the assault, and you end up shooting him, You MIGHT avoid jail, but the family will definitely sue your ass.
If he comes after you with a weapon as you attempt a retreat, light his ass up. Just hope you have witnesses, or that he isn't some important guy's shitheil son/cousin.
Having a lawyer on retainer is also smart.

>ranged or melee weapon
In most free states shoot them once they start breaking through the window assuming you cant drive away, or if they swing at you if the window is down. They are employing force that in the eyes of a reasonable man would likely result in grievous bodily harm or death. that is the literal definition most places use for when it's appropriate to use lethal force.
>imma just punch your window or try to fight you
Drive away for fucks sake if you can. or just fucking sit in your car and call 911. If you have tempered side windows then kimbo slice his ghostly self is gonna have a real hard time getting to you. If none of those work then a "reasonable" person might think that a clearly deranged individual punching out their window and assaulting them, or otherwise dragging them out of a car was engaged in an act of robbery/grand theft auto via force. That'd be a forceable felony in many localities and therefore a shooting offense. YMMV though, check your state/local laws.

>ladies and gentleman of the jury, if the defendant was really in fear for his life then why did he leave his vehicle to "confront" my client when he could've just stayed in there in relative safety and waited for the police?!?!?!
yea, no.

>stay in relative safety
>as someone breaks a window to get to you
If some meth head fuckboy wants to break my window, I'm taking that as a direct fucking threat.
If someone starts smashing your window, you can try to make an escape to avoid having to shoot someone. If someone still is pursuing you, that's more than enough reason to think someone is trying to fuck your shit up.

I don't think this chart will hold up in court

>what happens if someone comes up to your window and starts punching you or breaks your window
another blm protest :^)

Drive off and hope he hangs on, grinding his feet into the road

What do you mean? Juries LOVE anime grills.

I'm so tired of the news spouting "unarmed man" whenever a black guy gets shot, as if this is the wild west and an unarmed man can commit no crime. Being unarmed doesn't mean someone is not a threat, ignoring orders, or hasn't committed a crime.

This is bullshit. If you are going to draw a weapon you better make damn sure you use it. Otherwise your creating an opportunity for the oposition to fuck your day up

Shoot on sight.
Everyone I see gets shot.
I don't have many friends

Roll down the window and ask him what he wants!

Do you think think you're in Germany? Equivocal response of force is not that specific in (the free part of) the US.
